DARRAGH'S POV

I walked beside Ciara, listening as she spoke.

"But I think the goddess made a good choice this time around."

I stopped in my tracks, the words hitting me like a physical blow. This time around. Those three words echoed in my mind, stirring something deep within me. She continued walking for a few steps before realizing I wasn't beside her anymore.

She turned, her eyes finding mine with a hint of worry. "Did I say something wrong?"

I shook my head, trying to mask the sudden storm of thoughts. "No. You said nothing wrong."

My voice came out quiet, almost reverent. Could she possibly know? Was there any way she remembered too? In that moment, something passed between us—a connection I couldn't quite name. I started walking again, falling into step beside her, but my mind was racing.

This time around. The phrase wasn't common, especially not in reference to mate bonds. It implied previous iterations, previous lives. Just like mine. Just like the memories that haunted me.

CIARA'S POV"Your daughter has always been a little bit special."Silver light danced across Selene's face as my lips parted to question her, but the words died in my throat. The marble altar beneath my feet dissolved.Dappled sunlight warmed my skin. The scent of wildflowers and damp earth filled my lungs. A garden sprawled before me—not the manicured beds of my estate, but something wilder, freer.A child crouched near a flowering bush, dark curls falling across her face. Her shoulders trembled.Erin.My heart stuttered. She couldn't have been older than five, her face still round with baby fat, her tiny hands cupped around something."I didn't mean to scare you," she whispered, tears tracking down her cheeks and dripping onto a small sparrow with a twisted leg. "Don't die. Please don't die."I reached for her instinctively, but my fingers passed through her shoulders. This wasn't my memory. I'd never witnessed this moment.Erin pressed her palm against the bird's broken body. Blue

CIARA'S POVThe estate's iron gates loomed ahead as I rounded the final bend in the road. Familiar spires pierced the sky, cold and unyielding against the sunlight. Home—or what was supposed to be home. The word felt hollow now, a shell emptied of meaning. But I was going to fix that. I was back to fix thatA sentinel's footsteps pounded the gravel as he rushed toward me. His eyes widened, breath catching. Recognition flickered across his face. He fumbled for his recorder, pressing the button with trembling fingers."She's here," he whispered, voice hoarse with urgency. The gates hissed and clicked as ancient mechanisms released their hold. Metal groaned against metal as they swung inward, revealing the path I'd walked a thousand times before."Your father wants to see you immediately," the sentinel said, shoulders rigid with tension.I brushed past him. "Word travels fast here. He'll know soon enough where I am.""But Luna Ciara—""I'll be at the healer's ward."His protest died on h

CIARA'S POVThe silence in the car pressed against my ears. Darragh's knuckles whitened slightly around the steering wheel, his gaze fixed on the asphalt unwinding before us. I turned toward the window, watching emerald pines smear into jade streaks as we sped past. The clothes he'd gotten dry for me still held warmth from the dryer. The hotel room stood behind us now—a temporary sanctuary where time had seemed suspended. But with each mile marker we passed, reality crept closer. Choices loomed. Consequences waited."What now?" Darragh's voice cut through the quiet, low and steady.I pressed my forehead against the cool glass, condensation forming around the edges of my skin. "I can't accuse someone of a crime they haven't committed." My reflection stared back at me, fractured across the window's surface. I turned to face him. "As much as I think taking out the enemy will solve this... I can't do that."His profile remained stoic, jaw set. The morning light caught the faint stubble al

DARRAGH'S POVThe words hung on my tongue for a moment too long. Ciara sat across from me, fingers drumming against her knee, eyes fixed on the hotel window where the morning sun streaked the glass. That hollow look in her gaze—like she was bracing for another blow—made the decision for me."Saraphina's mother," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Riona Maychild."Ciara went perfectly still. Only her chest moved with a sharp intake of breath that escaped as a slow hiss between her teeth. Two rapid blinks, and something hardened in her expression."Of course." The words scraped from her throat as if each one cut on the way out. "Of course." Her knuckles whitened around the edge of the armchair. "I've had this feeling about your cousin."I crossed the room in two strides. "Don't go there.""Why not?" Her eyes met mine, glittering with dangerous intensity. "You think I'm wrong? You should see the way she watches you when you're not looking. The way she talks about—""Sara is nothin

CIARA'S POVI woke up slowly, the kind of gradual climb to consciousness where dreams and reality blur together. Something warm pressed against my palm. My fingers were intertwined with someone else's.Darragh's.My eyes flew open. Morning light filtered through the cheap hotel curtains, bathing the room in a soft glow. I blinked, trying to make sense of what I was seeing.Darragh sat on the floor beside my bed, his back against the wall, head tilted at an uncomfortable angle. Fast asleep. One arm stretched up to the mattress where his hand held mine.Had he held my hand all night? Why would he do that?I studied our linked fingers. His hand dwarfed mine, callused in places I wasn't. My pulse quickened, and I pulled my gaze away, looking instead at his face.He seemed younger in sleep. The sharp edges of his usual expression softened, his dark eyelashes casting shadows on his cheeks. I'd never seen him so... unguarded.Carefully, I slipped my hand from his. He didn't stir. I slid off

  • The Alpha's Betrayal: My Second Chance To Defy Fate   FORTY THREE

SARA'S POVI stared down at my grandfather's body, watching the rain wash his blood into the garden soil below. My chest heaved with each breath. I'd done it. I'd actually killed him.My legs gave out. I sank to the wet balcony floor, back pressed against the railing. Reality crashed into me like a tidal wave. I'd just murdered my grandfather. The realization punched through me, leaving me gasping."Oh goddess," I whispered, hand flying to my mouth. My fingers trembled against my lips. What had I done? The Omegas had seen us fighting. They'd heard everything. Now his body lay broken and bloody on the ground below my balcony, his brain scattered across the stones. I couldn't hide this.I couldn't breathe. My lungs refused to expand. Each gasp came shorter and more desperate than the last. The world spun around me as panic clawed its way up my throat.I couldn't move him. I couldn't carry a dead body through the estate alone. My magic wasn't reliable enough to do the job without leaving
