Alisha's POV

The shoulder was getting better.

Raymond had three times called the injury minor. And Joshua had heard him three times, yet didn't believe in any of them.

He'd been doing the things he does now. The not-hovering, the staying still, the eyes that tracked me when I moved but the body that stayed where it was.

That was the work. Right there. In the waiting.

"I'm fine," I told him at breakfast.

"I know," he said. Looking at his coffee.

I smiled at my cup so he couldn't see it.

Alisha's POVA month after the engagement party, the rebuild was complete and set for dedication.I stood at the back of Blue Moon's main hall and looked at what a year of work had produced and felt something I didn't have a clean word for.Proud wasn't big enough. Grateful wasn't either. Both packs were here. Every single wolf. Black Gold and Blue Moon were packed into the same space, shoulder to shoulder, like it was normal. Like it had always been this way.It basically had been for a while now. We'd just made it official.Val was at the front looking firm, still, the weight of the moment sitting on him without bending him. Nadia was in the front row. She caught his eye, and he almost smiled.Joshua's hand found mine without either of us looking. The bond hummed. And Eliza, fifteen weeks now, hummed back."Nadia Reeves," Val said. "Blue Moon Beta." The room applauded.Nadia stood, warm, direct, no performance. The woman who had argued border strategy with Morrison like she'd been d

  • The Alpha's Betrayal: Pregnant And Accused   CHAPTER 104: Val And Nadia's Engagement Party.

Alisha's POVEighteen months ago, I was sitting alone in a Blue Moon packhouse with two newborns and a decision I didn't want to make.Tonight, that same packhouse was so full of people I could barely move through it.Both packs in one room. Nobody was performing anything. That was the part that still got me sometimes, how natural it had become. Black Gold wolves are arguing with Blue Moon wolves about food. Stealing each other's seats. Finishing each other's sentences. Like they'd always been one thing and had just needed time to figure it out.Val had done that, Nadia had done that, too. In fact, all of us had done that. One choice at a time.Nadia was glowing, not literally, though honestly, with this pack, you never knew, just the glow of a woman who was completely at home in her own celebration. She was laughing at something Morrison had said, her ring catching the light every time she moved her hand. Not performing. That was what I loved about Nadia. She never performed anything

  • The Alpha's Betrayal: Pregnant And Accused   Chapter 103: Pregnancy Announcement

Alisha's POVEight weeks later, Joshua was on the phone with Derek when I came downstairs. The pregnancy test kit was still on the kitchen counter where I'd left it twenty minutes ago after staring at it. The bond between them had never been quieter than before. It wasn't just warm, but calm and certain, that settled between us over the past months. It isn't the enormous surge of the twins' first words. But something new. Something with its own weight and its own warmth. We'd been trying for six weeks. We'd agreed that this time would be everything the first time wasn't. It was planned, celebrated, and safe. No running. No crashing. No, giving birth alone in a Blue Moon medical facility while the mate bond frayed at the edges. This time, Joshua was in the kitchen when I walked in with the test.He looked at my face before he looked at the test. Then he put his phone down mid-sentence *I'll call you back, Derek* and crossed the kitchen and held me for a long time without saying anythi

  • The Alpha's Betrayal: Pregnant And Accused   CHAPTER 102: First Words.

Alisha's POVDerek had been gone eleven days. He'd sent a message the morning after he left.No build up, just: *I'm watching. I meant it.* Joshua had read it twice, put his phone down, and gone to find me in the kitchen. He hadn't said anything. He didn't need to.The bond told me everything. Not guilt, but a man taking being watched seriously and choosing to deserve it.Two weeks after the twins turned one, and with Derek still away, Ella said her first word. She wasn't looking at any of us when she said it.She was sitting on the playmat in the middle of the living room, Alexander beside her, doing something complicated with a wooden block, both of them absorbed in whatever project they'd decided was the morning's priority. I was on the couch. Diana was in the armchair. Lydia was in the kitchen doorway with a cup of tea.It was a normal Tuesday morning.Suddenly, Ella looked at the closed front door."Dada," she said.Clearly and deliberately, as if she were answering a question nob

  • The Alpha's Betrayal: Pregnant And Accused   CHAPTER 101: Derek's Visit.

Alisha's POVThe twins turned one year old on a Thursday.Alexander announced this at six in the morning by pulling himself upright in his cot and saying something emphatic that wasn't quite a word but had the energy of a declaration. Ella watched him from her side of the cot with the calm of someone who had expected this and had opinions about the timing.I stood in the nursery doorway and felt the weight of it, twelve months since two impossibly small people had arrived in the world under circumstances nobody would have chosen and had proceeded to make everything better anyway.Joshua appeared behind me with coffee."One year," he said."One year," I said.We stood there while the twins began their day with their usual combination of chaos and purpose. The bond is warm between us. The packhouse is quiet around us.Then the front door opened downstairs.Derek arrived the way he always does. No warning, bag over his shoulder, the look of someone who had driven through the night and co

  • The Alpha's Betrayal: Pregnant And Accused   CHAPTER 100: Shield Manifestation.

Alisha's POVThe packhouse was quiet when I came downstairs.Lydia was already up. I could hear her in the kitchen. Diana's door was closed. Nate's car was gone from the drive.Tomorrow came earlier than expected.I was in the study at seven, going through Robert's papers, when Marie arrived with the journals. Two notebooks, worn at the corners, my father's handwriting on the covers in the specific way he labelled everything he considered important. She set them on the desk without ceremony."He wanted you to have these when you were ready," she said. "I think you're ready."She left me alone with them. I sat for a long time before I opened the first one.Pages of my father's handwriting. Documentation of something he'd understood about his daughter before she understood it herself. The Silvermoon defensive magic, the direct female line, the specific way it manifested under threat. He'd been watching it build in me for years. Writing it down carefully and leaving a record so that when
