Damon’s POV

The smell of blood never really leaves you.

It clings to your skin, crawls into your head, and stays there, whispering what you could’ve done differently.

That morning, it was everywhere. On the sand. On the air. On me.

I stood over the warrior’s body, jaw clenched so hard it hurt. He’d been young -- maybe twenty, quiet, loyal, someone I’d trusted enough to guard the eastern border. His throat was torn open. His eyes were still open too, staring blankly at the sky like he hadn’t understood what hit him.

And all I could hear was Aria’s voice from last night -- soft, trembling, certain.

“Be careful today.”

I’d brushed it off. Told her she needed rest. Told myself she was just shaken.

Now, I couldn’t even look at the body without feeling it, that sick twist of guilt crawling under my ribs.

“Alpha,” Cole said quietly beside me. He didn’t look me in the eye. “We found no sign of rogues. The tracks vanish near the training grounds.”

“Vanishing tracks?” I muttered. “That’s not po

  • The Alpha’s Betrayed Mate   CHAPTER 82. THE ALPHA’S BREAKING POINT

Damon’s POVThe council chamber still smelled of blood and smoke when I carried Aria in my arms. Her body was trembling, her eyes half-open and unfocused, the faintest whimper escaping her lips. Every step I took echoed against the stone floor, every sound too loud in the silence that followed her outburst. The elders stared, their faces twisted in fear and judgment, but I didn’t care. All I could think about was the sight of her turning on me...her eyes burning crimson, her hands shaking, her voice lost beneath whatever darkness had taken hold of her.Aria wasn’t herself. That wasn’t her wolf. That wasn’t the woman I had sworn to protect.I pushed open the heavy doors of the sacred chamber...the only place built to contain an Alpha’s rage and a Luna’s breaking. The walls were etched with silver markings and moonstone veins, glowing faintly in the dim light. I laid her down gently on the soft furs spread over the floor, brushing a strand of hair from her face. She flinched even in un

  • The Alpha’s Betrayed Mate   Chapter 81. The Possession

Aria’s POVThe moment I drifted to sleep, the world changed. It was no longer quiet or calm. Shadows whispered at the edges of my vision, feeling familiar yet foreign. I saw him...Zac...or his essence, slipping through my mind like smoke into fire. Though not physically present, I felt his presence in my bones, blood, and heartbeat. It started subtly: a shiver when I turned, movement in my vision, a whisper like my voice. As night deepened, it intensified. I saw through his eyes, felt his arrogance, pride, and twisted sense of ownership over me.“No,” I whispered into the darkness, clutching the blanket against my chest. “No, you don’t… not here, not in me.”But it was too late. My dreams weren’t mine; they belonged to him ... to the part of him that clung to my soul like a parasite, feeding on fear, guilt, and memories I’d tried to lock away. I could feel him invading my mind...not physically, but in every intimate corner.I woke gasping, sheets twisted, feeling the warmth on my han

  • The Alpha’s Betrayed Mate   Chapter 80. Spirits of the Past

Damon’s POVAs I entered the Moon Priestess’s chamber, the air was thick with incense and an ancient presence.Candles flickered along the walls, their flames bending as if stirred by an unseen force. I felt the weight of what was happening and what had been unleashed.“Damon Winchester,” the Moon Priestess said softly, looking up from her herbal cleansing bowl. Her dark eyes held wisdom and fear. “You carry a storm’s weight.”I stepped closer, my boots clanging softly against the stone floor. I couldn’t let her see the tension in my chest. Not now. Not when Aria...my Aria...was in the middle of this.My mate.My everything.“It’s not the storm I worry about,” I said, my voice steady, though my fists clenched at my sides.“It’s what’s hiding in it. Tell me exactly what you know about Zac RedMoon.”The Moon Priestess didn’t flinch at the name. She simply folded her hands and let her gaze settle on me. “He is not alive, Alpha Damon. Not in the way you think. His body is gone, yes, but h

  • The Alpha’s Betrayed Mate   Chapter 79. The Shadow of Zac

Aria’s POVThe night air was colder than usual, thick with the scent of smoke and fear. From the balcony of the Alpha’s chambers, I could see the torches flickering along the eastern field where Damon’s warriors stood, a sea of black armor gleaming under the pale moonlight. My heart pounded so hard it hurt.He was out there.Damon.My mate.My anchor. My everything. And somewhere beyond those trees stood the ghost of the man I thought I’d buried forever ... Zac.Even saying his name in my mind felt like a curse. The whisper of the wind brushed against my skin, carrying the faint echo of howls from afar. Every muscle in my body trembled, not from fear, but from something deeper… a pull I didn’t understand. My hands clutched the edge of the railing as I tried to steady my breath.“Luna,” a voice called softly from behind me.I turned to see Mara, one of the she-wolves assigned to my protection, standing in the doorway. Her dark curls were damp with sweat, and her amber eyes shimmered wi

  • The Alpha’s Betrayed Mate   Chapter 78. The New War

Damon’s POVThe wind carried the smell of iron and smoke long before the scouts returned. It was faint at first, a whisper beneath the scent of pine and morning dew — but I knew it. I had lived it before. Blood. War. Betrayal.I stood on the balcony overlooking the courtyard of the Winchester pack house, my hands gripping the stone rail. Below, my warriors trained in silence, their movements sharp and measured. The peace we had fought for, the fragile calm Aria and I had built with our blood and pain, trembled like glass under a storm.“Alpha,” Rowan said from behind me, his voice low and urgent. “They’re coming.”I turned slowly. Rowan’s broad shoulders were stiff, his brown eyes dark with worry. He was my Beta, my most loyal brother-in-arms.The scars on his jaw glistened faintly in the sunlight — reminders of the last war we survived.“How many?” I asked.“Hundreds,” he said. “Rogues. But not just them. Some banners we don’t recognize — and one we do.”My pulse tightened. “Whose b

  • The Alpha’s Betrayed Mate   Chapter 77. Rebound of Fate

Aria’s POVHe didn't answer me at once. His jaw worked like a pulley's rope, steady and slow. Then he said, in a voice like gravel warmed by sunlight, "You won't die. Not if I can help it.""That's easy for you to say," I snapped, though the sound of my own voice surprised me with how small it came out. I clung to my defiance like a lifeline. "You broke the bond. You walked away. You left me vulnerable...""I broke it to keep you safe," Damon cut in, his hand a solid, terrifying thing on my wrist. His grip was not the owner's grip Zac had used; it wasn't shackling. It was an anchor. "Do you think I slept? Do you think I stopped thinking of you all night? You think I abandoned you for pride? No. I chose a different kind of hurt.""You chose for me," I said, the words sharp and real. "You decided what was best without asking me. You decided I couldn't handle the heat, and so you stepped between me and the world. You made a choice that cost me my voice."He flinched as if my accusation h
