Fire on Water

“Do you think it’s true?... about the statue?” I asked as I removed my jacket, resting it on top of the chair.

We were in Julian’s room and he was sitting on his bed still in his work clothes as he watched me.

“Maybe,” he said, a little distracted as if mentally he was somewhere else.

“Would you… would you be willing to try it with me?” I asked quietly.

He snapped back to the present and looked at me, his eyes wide with shock.

“Would you be okay with that?”

I nodded. “I guess so,”

He then smiled wide and leaned on his arms backwards,

“I’m sure you are my mate, but we’ll go there and test that statue out soon.”

“Okay,” I smiled as I kept my weapons belt on the table. There was still something I wanted to ask Julian, and this seemed the right time.

“Julian… that night, how did you know where I was?”

Julian’s expression hardened and he straightened up, bringing his arms on his lap.

“I couldn’t sleep that night… I went out for a walk but I couldn’t get you out of my head.
