Alec

After Vanessa’s final, defiant refusal to be my mistress, I remained with her in the quiet of Nina’s apartment. She leaned into me on the couch, curled against my side. The warmth of her body softened the sting of everything we hadn’t resolved.

I hadn’t expected to feel this bothered.

I looked down at her. Her head rested on my chest, and her fingers absently twisted a thread on my shirt. I could feel her hesitation building before she even spoke.

“Is it normal to feel this… constant desire?”

Her question caused a slow smile to touch my lips. I pretended not to understand.

“You’ll have to be more specific.”

She groaned and buried her face in my chest. “Come on, Alec. You’re going to make me say it.”

“I’m not a mind reader, little wolf,” I murmured.

She peeked up at me with a groan. “I mean…” She cleared her throat. “Every time you’re near me… my body starts acting on its own. It’s like it doesn't care what I decide. Like it’s already decided for me.”

I could feel her heartbeat th

I knocked on the heavy walnut door of Justin's office. When no answer came, I pushed it open and stepped inside. He did not look up from his laptop, and his fingers flew across the keyboard with a focused intensity. The man was completely lost in his work, but the bond between us did not care about his concentration. It sizzled in the air, oozing directly from him. I felt a familiar heat coil low in my stomach and tried to force it down. I would not let this arrogant Lycan see me flustered.“Close the door,” he commanded, his eyes still fixed on the screen. The lock clicked shut behind me. I walked forward, my heels sinking into the thick carpet. I stopped at an unspoken boundary near his desk where the pattern of the rug changed. Only then did he lift his head. His eyes moved over me, staring at my shoes and pausing a little too long on the nylon of my tights before traveling up the length of my body with an insulting slowness. His gaze swept over my chest and lingered on my lips b

After a restless night spent tossing in my sheets, I was up at five in the morning, packing two suitcases with a grim efficiency. I needed to leave, to get to the Lycan territory and find out what the hell Justin was hiding. My brother, Brian, stood in my doorway watching me, his face a mask of shock that I was willing to go to the Lycans of my own free will. Downstairs, I could hear my father’s voice, and his suspicion was a sharp contrast to Brian's concern.“She’s running to the Lycan kingdom because she doesn't want to get married,” he was saying. I came down the stairs just as his wife joined him, and the sight of her sent a jolt of pure acid through my veins. Lilith was the Seer’s niece. She had moved into our home just two weeks after my mother’s funeral, after her “untimely” death. The memory was always there, branded behind my eyes: Lilith pretending to be a devoted follower, cooking and cleaning while my mother grew sicker, right up until the day I found her and my fathe

My fingers twisted the thin belt of the silk robe I had thrown over my dress, because I could not make myself sit still. Justin’s offer, or maybe his insult, hung in the air of my bedroom. A hotel room number. Just one night. No expectations. It was nothing like the recognition I had dreamed of, and everything like a proposition tossed to a woman he considered a cheap thrill.A desperate part of me screamed that it might be a test, a way to protect the bond from a room full of vultures who would tear it apart for political gain. Or maybe he was just ashamed of me, and this was his way of getting what he wanted without anyone knowing. I gripped the edge of the vanity and stared at the woman in the mirror. Her eyes held too much hope, and the sight of it made me sick to my stomach. My hands moved on autopilot, turning the faucet in the bathroom, shedding my clothes, and stepping into the tub of hot water. When I got out, the black lingerie I chose clung to my skin. I grabbed the

JustinI stood beside my mother in the suffocating heat of the hall, the air thick with the cloying smell of werewolf desperation. Their hungry eyes followed every Lycan that passed, and disgust washed through me. If I had my way, I would not be here. The entire werewolf nation was a drain, a mess created by their greedy alpha and his incompetent council. My mother sipped her wine, her gaze sweeping over the crowd with the bored look of a queen surveying a colony of ants.“What exactly are you doing?” I asked, letting a yawn stretch my jaw. “Our workforce is already bloated. We don’t need more mouths to feed.”A chuckle escaped her. “I am offering them hope, darling.”“You’re manipulating them,” I corrected her.“Empires are built on manipulation, darling. How do you imagine our kingdom became so powerful? It was certainly not by playing fair.”I tipped the last of the crushed wolfsbane from a leather pouch into my mouth. The bitterness barely registered on my tongue anymore after yea

Justin’s footsteps vanished into the chaos of the festival, swallowed by the music and numerous conversations. The bond felt less like a gift from the Moon and more like a cruel trick designed to show me a life I could have before snatching it away. Was Justin so disgusted by the idea of a werewolf mate that he had to pretend he couldn't feel it ?My wolf, who had been howling with joy just moments before, now whimpered, stung by our mate's silence.“Three you are,” a voice grated behind me. My dad. I kept my eyes fixed on Justin’s hand, still linked with that woman’s, and wondered if my wolf could have made such an evil mistake.A hand closed around my arm. I tried to pull away but his fingers dug in. He shot me a look that promised a lecture later. “Behave,” he hissed into my ear, his breath soured with wine. “Let me introduce you to the Lycans. A connection like that could be useful.”I almost choked on a laugh as he steered me through the crowd.“Your Majesty,” my father said, d

I should’ve known something was wrong. My boyfriend, Alan, hadn't answered my calls all day, but I told myself he was just busy. I even justified it. He was the Beta's son; maybe the elders had given him more responsibilities.Clutching his favorite wine, still in my heels and flushed from a courtroom victory, I stood outside his apartment. I’d just won a major case and planned to celebrate with him. I had no idea I was walking into the moment that would shatter my world.I slid the spare key into the lock and stepped inside.Silence, then a breathy moan.I froze. The bedroom door was ajar. I moved as if underwater.Alan was on his knees, pleasuring a woman.No. No, no, no.The wine slipped from my fingers and shattered against the tile.Alan’s head jerked up. So did his lover’s.Genevieve.My best friend. She shrieked, her lips parted in shock, but it was short-lived. She sat up and pushed her curls back, her eyes meeting mine.“Wh—what is this?” I stammered.Alan stood shirtless, sw
