Chapter 2

Author: LL
Early the next morning, I went to the patrol unit to hand over my duties.

Ever since Kenny became Alpha, I had served as his Beta.

"You're leaving? Does Kenny know?" Joey Canberra looked shocked.

"He'll know once I'm gone."

After saying goodbye to Joey, I headed to the training grounds. While there, I ran into Kenny, who had just come out from the shower. His fur was still damp.

He shook his wrists and glanced at me. "I drank too much last night, so I stayed out and didn't go home."

In seven years, this was the first time he had ever explained himself.

I nodded and said nothing.

"Do you have a mission this morning?" he asked.

I looked at him.

Every single morning, I woke up early to prepare breakfast and soup for him.

I had done that ever since Kenny became Alpha at eighteen.

When he didn't see me this morning, it felt odd to him.

I simply nodded. "Yeah."

I turned around to leave, but Kenny suddenly frowned. His expression darkened as he grabbed my arm.

"Ella, that's enough. It's just a rescheduled marking ceremony. It's not like I'm not marking you at all. It's pointless to make a fuss like this."

I wasn't making a fuss, and I wasn't planning on being marked anymore.

Just as I was about to speak, a soft, clingy whine cut in.

"Kenny! It's all your fault!

"The roses you picked for me this morning aren't even the kind I like!

"I like red roses. Don't forget that next time, okay?"

Leah walked out of the changing room in Kenny's clothes.

The moment Kenny saw her, he shoved me aside and ran over to scoop her up in his arms.

His tone turned urgent and stern. "You're not feeling well, and yet you're still running around barefoot? What if you get worse?"

I chuckled.

At the beginning of the month, when I was badly injured, I curled up in bed in pain and begged Kenny to help me get some painkillers.

He frowned at me back then. "Does it hurt that much? It's just a minor wound. Can't you endure it? You're such a hassle."

When I came back to my senses, Kenny had already carried Leah far away.

I looked away and ignored the sharp ache in my chest.

After booking my flight, my phone displayed Leah's latest Instagram post that included a caption.

[Just because I said I liked red roses, Kenny said he's going to plant an entire garden full of them for me! Being cherished like this feels amazing!]

Leah posted it deliberately for me to see, but I didn't care.

I liked the post. I then returned to my own profile and removed the background photo of Kenny and me.

I even stood on my tiptoes and gently kissed Lucas on the lips. The light in Kenny's eyes dimmed, yet he still chose to deceive himself."It's okay, Ella. I know you're just upset with me."He tightened his grip around the roses and let the thorns pierce his palms."I'll show you that I genuinely regret what I did. I'll atone for everything!"Blood seeped from his hands, but even as his second-in-command dragged him away, I didn't respond with a single word."I'm sorry. I used you as a shield just now."I apologized to Lucas, but he was smiling."Ella, I never would've minded as long as it's you."In fact, I wish everything had been real."I understood what he meant, but my thoughts were still a bit tan

When I returned home at night, I saw Kenny in the bushes downstairs. He seemed drunk. When he spotted me, he staggered to his feet and tried to approach me.I instinctively backed away.Kenny froze. He then looked at me with a solemn expression."Even you look down on me now, huh?""No, I just don't want to have anything to do with you anymore."After saying that, I tried to walk past him.He suddenly grabbed my arm tightly. I felt a warm liquid dripping onto my hand.He spoke through choked sobs."Ella, I was wrong."I treated you the way I did because other werewolves kept saying everything I had was all thanks to you, including my status and reputation."I was the Alpha. I just couldn't accept it. I couldn't accept that they never acknowledged my ability. They only ever credited everything to you!"I've always loved you. I never once planned to marry another she-wolf!"He sobbed uncontrollably, but all I felt was a deep, chilling cold.So that was the real reason. He

When Kenny called again using a friend's phone, he sounded clearly worn out."Ella, I concede. You win."Come back. I promise I'll mark you immediately and make you Luna."Are you happy now?"For a moment, I honestly wondered if something was wrong with his head.Hadn't I made myself very clear?I almost laughed out of anger. "Kenny, all I've ever said was to break up."Do you understand what that means? I'll say it one last time. We're already broken up. Stop bothering me!"Lucas was standing beside me. Having noticed I was in a bad mood, he asked if I was feeling alright.Kenny overheard him and instantly threw a fit."Who are you with right now?"Why is there another werewolf's voice? Aha! I get it now! This is why you wanted to break up with me! You betrayed me!"I didn't bother explaining. I hung up.Friends sent me updates from time to time.I heard that Kenny fired his new Beta without even meeting him once.Leah hid at home because of the public backlash. She was

I slept more soundly on that flight than I ever had in my life. When I landed, the werewolves in the northern territory greeted me with the highest level of hospitality."Welcome to the pack, Miss Ella!"It's an honor to have such an outstanding Beta join us!"Derrick Blunt didn't hold back his praise, and the others looked at me with open admiration. This kind of treatment was something I had never experienced in my previous pack.Back then, no matter who complimented me, Kenny's expression would always darken without exception. No one in the pack wanted to offend him, and I didn't want to upset him either.Over time, I became an outcast.Derrick introduced me to the Alpha of the northern territory. The Alpha extended his hand politely, and his face looked vaguely familiar."Miss Ella, I'm Lucas Granger.
