Chapter 11

Diana

(Diana’s POV)

I stared at Seraphine lying in the pool of Jeremy’s blood. White hair strewn around her, tears and plasma maring her gentle features; she looked like a wounded Goddess and I hated her all the more for it.

What made me hate her beyond redemption though, was the way Valefar looked at her. I had never seen such an expression on his face. The realm had shaken when Seraphine raised her voice and sparks of light crackled around her. Valefar was scared of Sera, but there was something else in those intense, amethyst eyes of his.

Delight.

Arousal.

That was new. My master had never looked at Seraphine as though she was anything more than a fancy gun with his finger hovering over the trigger. Ever since she turned eighteen, it was like she was reborn anew in the eyes of everyone. It disgusted me.

“Diana,” Valefar’s voice stole my attention. “Bring Sera back to her room. I’ll select a mate without her.”

“Of course, Master,” I bowed my head to him and started

Chapter 1 HellhoundMy skin hissed against the silver blade pressed against my throat. The searing pain brought tears to my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I couldn’t cry - not when I was seeing my fated mate for the first time. I didn’t even know his name, but I felt that invisible thread weave itself around my heart and tighten when he stepped closer. His ice-blue eyes betrayed no emotion, especially in his wolf form. Even though he was larger than any wolf I had ever seen, with pitch dark fur, he blended with the shadows seamlessly. My mate was drinking in every tiny detail of not just me, but the demon holding a knife to my neck...Valefar; the demon who had slaughtered my pack and raised me to be his own personal Hellhound. I could see that my mate wanted nothing more than to claw Valefar’s heart out of his chest, but if even one whisker twitched, Valefar would end my life in an instant.“That’s it,” Valefar’s shrill voice sounded utterly delighted. “Stay where you are and

Chapter 2The BondAfter the imps scrubbed me clean, they told me I could soak for as long as I liked. I took them up on that offer, if only so I could be left alone, to conquer the swirling blizzard of thoughts and emotions inside.I sank beneath the hot, milky water in hopes it would soothe me. It was deep enough for me to float; for my body to feel suspended in time and freed on a spiritual level. It would only last for as long as I could hold my breath, but I savored every second of being one with the water.A lot had happened in the span of a month. My birthday was early April, and this year happened to be when I turned eighteen. It was that day when everything changed. In the early hours of the morning, I woke up and was overwhelmed by an intense sensation. It started in my chest, as though something within was trying to crack my ribs open and claw its way to freedom. Then it quickly spread through my veins, clouding any coherent thought in my head and making every nerve in my b

Your sole purpose up on the Surface is to protect our Master!” Diana yelled, spit flecking at my face and for a split second I thought she was going to hit me again.“I tried,” I rasped.“Liar!”“I’m not lying! Sit down, Diana, and I’ll tell you exactly what happened to your precious Master.”Diana stepped back. She still looked ready to rip me to shreds, but at least some part of her wanted to hear me out.I decided to push my luck a little. “I want to tell Amber what happened as well,”“I’m not waiting for you to gather an audience, Sera!” Diana’s hand launched towards me and she grabbed a fistful of my t-shirt. Chapter 4The Price of Loyalty - Part TwoI was just as confused and concerned as Valefar was. Nothing like that had ever happened to me before. I had no explanation for why I lit up like a pretty beacon, but I could hazard an educated guess. When the light streamed from me, I felt that feral magnetism again. The tether to my fated mate had strengthened and the release of light felt like a desperate signal to him. Going to the Surface, being on the same plane as Renrik, meant that everything Hell had been suppressing since I turned eighteen, burst out of me in a glorious light show. That beam of light really was a beacon for Renrik to find me.I didn’t voice my theories to Valefar. I parted my lips and shrugged at him innocently. “I didn’t do anything deliberately,” and I wasn’t lying. “Sorry, Master.”“You’ve been acting so weird since your birthday,” Valefar grumbled and fixed his collar, ever obsessed with his image. When he turned away, I managed to catch what he added under his b

Chapter 10JeremyFeeling cold in Hell wasn’t possible, yet I chilled when I stepped outside with so much skin exposed. Diana and Valefar turned to me as my high heels clicked against the marble steps. Diana was mortified by my bikini-esque costume, but Valefar looked ecstatic. “Sera! Who knew you’d scrub up so well?” Valefar rubbed his hands together before skipping over to me. “You look gorgeous,”“She looks nervous,” Diana pointed out. “I look like a hooker,” I helpfully added, slightly shocked that the word even made it past my lips.“Ah, well,” Valefar waved away my concern. “You’re not a hooker,” his voice was silky and sincere, right up until he added, “you’re not getting paid for it, after all!”I tried to conceal my sigh, but didn’t do a very good job. “My Hellhounds are all lined up for us. This way, this way,” Valefar snaked an arm around my waist and guided me towards the West Wing gardens. He was imbued with the aura of a sketchy car salesman. As usual, this was pure

Chapter 9Dream come true(Seraphine’s POV)Sleep didn’t come easily, but eventually I nodded off with tears staining my cheeks. I had expected nightmares. Dark visions of Hellhounds mating me while Valefar held me down with that polite, fake smile plastered on his lips. What I actually dreamt was quite different. I found myself standing on a platform of prismatic clouds. A warmth greeted me, but not like the dry heat of Hell. This warmth was comforting, like an embrace from a forgotten friend. I felt so light and airy that I wanted to fall back into the mix of colours and leave my mind to swim in the magical weave. My clothes had changed. My usual pants and top were traded for a long, flowing dress. A shimmering, pearlescent sheen to the fabric made me feel like a princess. I twirled around, enjoying the freedom, right up until I saw a mountainous figure watching me, mouthing my name. I froze. “Renrik?” I’d only seen his wolf form. This was a man who stood before me and still I k
