An escape

Ezra came out of the room to go find Axel again after Nina had slept. He found himself thinking over and over again what she had said. His mind wouldn't just stop replaying those words. He didn't know what to do or how to react, but his heart sure did. The organ was beating faster than usual, and it was not calming down at all. He couldn't understand the warm fuzzy feeling that spread through him at her simple utterance. They were just words, but they felt too wholesome.

Axel was waiting for him in his office, as they were not done discussing about Jake before being interrupted with news of the DNA test. Axel stared at him, his gaze narrowed as he watched him. "So? How did it go? Does she hate you now? I hope that is the case."

"She does not." Ezra answered as he took his seat. Axel's eyes were focused on him, schooling his expression of course. "It is the opposite actually." He shook his head in disbelief, recalling her confession. But she was almost asleep when she said it anyway,
