The Unexpected

Vienna’s POV.

I hereby pronounce you husband and wife.

It was finally the day I had been waiting for, for so long. It was my wedding day and in a few hours, I would be married to the man that was now my chosen mate after years of friendship, the absolute love of my life, Alpha Marcus of the Silver Stone Pack.

As I stared at my reflection in the large mirror in front of me, I couldn’t believe how far I had come after all these years. Who would have thought that I would have stood in such a beautiful dress, about to get married to the best man I could ever dream of after I had experienced a life filled with misery and pain?

I lost my mother to the cold hands of death at such a young age of ten and had to watch how she battled with a deadly disease during her last few weeks on earth, leaving a scar on my heart that I thought would never heal. But then, my father got married to another woman who had been nothing but a blessing in my life.

Hera had been so nice to me, even nicer than I had expected. She cared for me like her own and I owed everything I had and what I had become to her. My father’s death a year ago hadn’t been easy on the both of us but she remained so strong and she helped me get past the pain.

My parents would always remain a part of me and I wished they were here to witness the wedding. But since I didn’t have anyone else to walk me down the aisle, I was more than happy to let Hera do it.

She had been more than just my stepmom, I saw her as my mother now.

A tear slid down my cheek as the memories of the times we spent together flashed before me but it was not of sadness, it was of joy. I was happy that things didn’t end badly for me.

I have always wanted to have someone to call my own, someone I knew would always stand beside me and be there for me and I was finally about to get that person in one man, my best friend and my lover.

Marcus.

I couldn’t believe he was going to be a part of my life now and to crown it all, he was going to be my husband on my birthday. He intentionally picked the date because he knew it was my birthday and I was very certain that he had something planned.

My fingers slowly traced the embroidery on the dress. It was a strapless white dress that clung to my bosom with such a grip that it highlighted my features and made me look so attractive.

“Breathtaking.” The maid’s voice pierced through my thoughts and snapped me back to reality. Her eyes travelled the length of my dress and I could see the admiration in her eyes as she zipped up the dress.

“You look really beautiful, Vienna. Alpha Marcus is so lucky to have you as his bride.” She complimented me and I smiled broadly.

“Your palms are sweaty, are you nervous?” She looked up at me, “there is no reason to be, you’re going to be the best and most beautiful bride he has ever seen.” She added, reassuringly and I smiled even broadly.

The maid picked up a diamond necklace and placed it around my neck gingerly but before she locked it around my neck, I stopped her and made my way towards the only wardrobe in the room.

The day held so much significance to Marcus and I, it was not just our wedding day and my birthday, it was also his birthday and that made it even more special so I pulled out the tiny gift box that contained the most important thing I had acquired and sincerely wished to give to him on that day.

He must have had something beautiful and special planned out for me so I just wanted to ensure that I also have something special to give to him and I wanted to do it first before he does because he had given me so much already and had done so much for me that nothing could possibly be enough to pay him back.

So, I held on tightly to the gift and made my way out of the room.

“I would be right back.” I said to the maid as I stepped out the door and turned in the direction of his quarters.

The anticipation that kept building up inside me was so overwhelming that I could feel my heart as it beat wildly in excitement. I could only imagine the look on his face when he unwrapped the gift and when he finally unwrapped me tonight.

Marcus and I chose to wait till our wedding night and I couldn’t wait to experience the sensational feeling of love-making with the man I loved most in life.

As I rounded a corner that brought me closer to his room, I overheard some sort of sounds but I didn’t pay any attention to it until I realized they were actually coming from his room.

I stopped and listened closely. A loud gasp slipped from me when I could no longer deny the fact that it was not just sounds I could hear, someone was moaning really loud, I could hear it clearly and it was coming from my mates room.

“Yeah…fuck you’re so sweet.” A loud gruff voice filled the hallway.

“Fucking tight pussy.”

My whole body froze and the gift box slipped from my grasp and almost crashed to the floor but my fingers kept it in place. My heart was no longer beating in excitement and I could feel this tightness in my throat that made it really difficult for me to breathe.

It…it couldn’t be what I thought it was. Marcus would never…there was absolutely no one else for him to cheat on me with. I was the only woman in his life and I was very sure of that.

Maybe a maid and a guard were messing around in his room but what kind of servants would be dumb enough to do something like that in the Alpha’s room, except they had a death wish.

“You drive me crazy…” came the voice again, he groaned and murmured words that I didn’t quite understand.

“Of course I do, you know she would never be able to satisfy you the way I do, right?” Another voice spoke up and my heart skipped a beat.

That voice!

It was very familiar, too familiar for comfort.

My legs were trembling and I didn’t even know what to do other than to move closer to the door and see things for myself. I could see the light from the room that poured into the hallway through the small crack since the door wasn’t locked so I pushed it open gently.

“She doesn’t even come close.” The masculine voice that I knew could never be Marcus, responded. “You know she hasn’t let me pop her cherry. She is so uptight and it’s so frustrating. I don’t even know if she is still a virgin.”

The door didn't make a single sound as I pushed it open and I swallowed really hard before I braced myself for what I was about to see.

I couldn’t even hear anything other than how my chest was beating loudly. My mind had to have played some sort of trick on me because I didn’t think I could…I couldn’t…

“Don’t worry, she is still a virgin. I made sure I taught her well.” The familiar female voice returned, “although I doubt you would be able to pop her cherry before Alpha Vincent comes for her.” She continued as raw pain coursed through my heart at the sight of them.

If my mind was playing tricks on me then my eyes shouldn’t do the same.

I stepped into the room with nothing but dread in my heart. The images and thoughts in my head couldn’t be true, it just couldn’t.

A loud gasp slipped from me as my eyes landed on the two naked bodies entwined on the bed and the gift box slipped from my hand and this time, it crashed to the floor and made a loud sound.

“Mother!” I exclaimed

Marcus and my mother! This had to be a nightmare.

I just stood there, I stared at them in shock and wished that this was some sort of bad dream that I would wake up from. The smile on my face that I thought nothing could erase a while ago was now gone and I felt the tears as it stung the back of my eyes while I stared deep into her eyes.

“Hera.” I called out her name just to be certain that it wasn’t someone else that looked like her.

I still didn’t believe it but when I locked eyes with Marcus and that familiar glint in his eyes caught my attention, I knew it wasn’t a dream and I could no longer hold back the tears.

Hot tears slid down my cheeks as I swallowed really hard and tried to say something but nothing came out of my mouth except a weak, whimper.

I sounded like I was wounded and that was exactly what I was, a wounded wolf.

I willed myself to wake up and realize that it was just a dream but I didn’t and the longer I stared at their faces, the more it dawned on me that my reality stared right back at me in the face with an ugly grin.

Still dressed in my beautiful wedding gown and a heart that felt like it was about to rip itself right out of my chest, I took a step forward and forced myself to speak.

“Tell me this isn’t true Marcus, please…” I pleaded with a shaky tone as I broke down in tears.
