Sold off

Vienna’s POV.

Hera pushed Marcus off her and used the duvet to cover herself up properly before she made eye contact with me. It was as if I had not just walked in on them having sex.

“You’re not supposed to be here.” Marcus growled. My brows furrowed in confusion because I never would have expected him to say that to me after what I just saw.

I caught him with my step mother on our wedding day and all he could say was that?

“Really?” I scoffed, “really? Today is supposed to be our wedding day. Mar-Marcus, how can you do this to me? How!” I yelled on top of my lungs as I struggled with the words.

Tears mixed with snoot drooled down my face, a contrast of what should have been the happiest day of my life

My eyes drifted towards the window and I caught sight of some maids as they moved around with items to set up the place for my wedding. They were getting ready for a man that was busy thrusting into my step mother. The pain in my chest was just too much to bear.

“Marcus, it’s our wedding day and my birthday and you choose today of all days to reveal your…your…” my eyes drifted towards my step mother for a brief moment, “whatever this is.” I added with an irritated tone.

“You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about. I am the one that Marcus has always loved and you…well… you were just the thing he kept himself occupied with until today which is our wedding day.” Hera’s voice filled the room and I watched as she hooked her arm with Marcus and smiled up at me with a sinister look on her face,

She held my gaze as she spoke and she intentionally stressed out her last words just to ensure I heard her clearly.

I gulped hard as her revelation landed on me heavily, like a blow. So heavily that I was forced to take a step backwards as the gift box dropped from my hand

What was she talking about?

I was the one in the wedding dress, I was the one all dolled up for the big day so what was she talking about? What did she mean by it was her wedding day?

Her words didn’t scare me as much as Marcus' nonchalant behavior and silence. He didn’t say anything and that made me tremble in despair. He had a smirk on his face as he watched me with an amused look and I couldn’t get over the fact that he was still laying down on the bed next to her, comfortably even after I had walked in on them.

This wasn’t happening. I repeated it over and over again but it didn’t make it go away.

Was it possible that Hera wasn’t bluffing? And this wasn’t some last minute prank that they had both come up with.

Slowly Hera stood up from the bed and made her way towards me. I flinched in fright, unable to let those repulsive hands of hers touch me so she stopped a few feet away from me.

“Let me take you on a trip down memory lane,” she said and I could sense the bitterness and the mockery in her tone.

How did it slip past me all these years? How could I not have noticed? I was certain that that tone of hers wasn’t there throughout those years, that was the only explanation for my confusion.

“Marcus and I have been together for a while now and we realized that you’re not suitable enough for him so…” her words trailed off in my head.

The tightness in my chest had returned and my mind was spinning around with different scenarios. I had been with Marcus for a year, he was my lover and best friend so didn’t the situation mean that what we had was just a facade?

How long had it been going on? I am tempted to ask but I didn’t.

“You must have been a fool to not have noticed, those nights he insisted he would spend the nights at our place even when you knew you couldn’t offer him sex, do you really think he stayed because he had feelings for you?” She hissed and laughed out loud.

“It was for me. He would sneak out to spend some time in my bed as soon as you were asleep because I am the only one that can truly satisfy a man like him, Vienna, you’re just a child.” She added.

The contempt in her tone wasn’t unnoticed.

“You must have thought you were going to be the Luna very soon, well, I am sorry to burst your bubble darling, but I am his Luna and we’ve known this all along, I just strung you along for a while because I enjoyed watching you look like a total idiot.”

Her words were like a knife that kept burying itself deep inside my heart over and over again. My eyes drifted back to Marcus and it hurt me once more to see that he looked like he was enjoying the show.

He enjoyed my misery and my pain, a man that almost became my husband did all this to me alongside the woman I considered my mother.

I thought my years of pain and misery were finally over. Why must it be me moon goddess, why?

The more I thought about it, the more I thought about things I didn’t want to think about.

“You did this to him too? You cheated on him even after how he tried to love you like he loved her? Why?” I asked and to my surprise, my voice didn’t break down as I had expected it to.

“You can ask your father that when you meet him in the afterlife, you stuck up bitch.” She cursed, “he showered you with love while he left me alone, all alone, craving his attention every night and day. Now, I have found a perfect man to love and desire me and you stand there and try to judge me.”

“How can the perfect man for you be the man I love?” As those words came out of my mouth, it made me so emotional that I couldn’t hold back the tears, they flowed freely.

“Oh come off it, you can drop the sorry act because he might be the one you love but you’re not the one he loves, I am the one he loves.” She responded with a firm tone.

It felt like the whole room was spinning in front of me and I had some sort of…

Marcus cleared his throat noisily and that got my attention.

“Let’s end this once and for all.” He suggested.

“I, Marcus Walker…” he began and I screamed out loud in pain because I knew what he was about to say and I could already feel the excruciating pain that accompanied severing a mate bond.

“Reject you Vienna Whitlock as my mate.” He continued without any hesitation.

Pain zinged through me like a knife nibbling at the edges of my shattered heart. While still processing this, the door was wide open so a guard appeared at the entrance and I did not notice his presence until he spoke.

“He has arrived, Alpha Marcus.” He announced and that definitely got Marcus and Hera’s attention because they shared a suspicious glance before Marcus jumped out of bed.

I had no idea how I was supposed to react, I was confused and everything happened way too fast.

The overwhelming surge of emotions inside of me morphed into something I couldn’t possibly explain. It held such influence over me that as I stared at Marcus, I could no longer see the man I loved but the man I hated with every single fiber of my being.

The hatred took over swiftly and effectively, it enveloped my entire body and it was irresistible. He played me for a fool, cheated on me with the only person I had left to call family.

“Look Vienna, I am sorry, I am sorry things had to end between us like this,” he spoke up again, “I wished I had another choice, I wish it didn’t have to end like this but it’s no longer in my power to change anything.”

I frowned, what was he talking about? What other secrets was he about to reveal? What could he have possibly done that would be worse than the fact that he cheated on me with my stepmother and rejected me on my birthday and supposed wedding day?

Had he not done enough already? Haven’t I been through enough misery to last me a lifetime? I cried out loud in my head as I waited for him to reveal whatever dreadful information he had to share.

“You were the only way I could pay back my debt to Alpha Vincent.”

For those few minutes, my heart stopped beating. As impossible as it was, it happened and I didn’t want to believe I had just heard him right.

“What are you talking about!” I yelled at him angrily as the tears rolled down my cheeks.

“I sold you.” He confessed, “I sold you out to him, Vienna, it was the only way I could save myself.”

My heart skipped a beat at the mention of that name. I knew who Alpha Vincent was, everyone knew who he was and he was the kind of man you prayed you never crossed paths with. He was the kind of man you hoped to never get to meet because he always left death behind as his trail and was feared in every Pack.

And Marcus just confessed that he sold me to a man like that!

I needed to get some air, everything was just too much for me to handle but as I spun around to leave, I was in for another shock of my life because my eyes landed on him.

“Alpha Vincent.” His name slipped right out of my mouth and a shiver raced down my spine as goosebumps spread across my body at such an alarming rate.

His expression was cold and harsh but it didn’t hide his handsome features. The jagged scar that ran from the corner of his forehead down to his cheek gave him a more formidable look.

“Take her.” He ordered the guards behind him and the next thing I knew, their hands were on me as they dragged me out of the room.

“Get off me! Get off me!” I screamed on top of my lungs but my screams couldn’t save me and just before they pulled me out into the hallway.

“Don’t worry, I would take care of him for you.” She mouthed and I clenched my fists angrily.

I caught the smirk on Hera’s face while she watched the drama unfold with amusement dancing across her eyes.

Could my twentieth birthday have ended on a worse note far greater than being rejected by my mate, betrayed by my best friend and step mother and finally sold off to a dangerous man?
