LOGINRaven POV
“Come on, you have to come tonight. You leave next week. You’re already abandoning me for our last year of high school because you had to go and be all brainy and graduate a year early.” My best friend Sara whined from her closet, where she was trying to find the perfect outfit for this, as she calls it, the most epic party of the year.
You have to know this about Sara, all parties are the most epic ever since she met a guy from the private school in our first year of high school. Even after he broke her heart, she still wants to go to these things. I haven’t figured out if it is to see who he is with or so that he can see all the guys that hit on her while we’re there.
Her partying habit is one of the reasons why she wasn’t able to go into the accelerated programme with me. Mind you she didn’t have the same need to get out of her house and away from her parents and on her own as I do. She has a good home. Her parents may work a lot, but they were always there when it counted. All of her school matches, any award ceremonies and even at the beginning of tenth grade when she got her heart broken for the first time by that jackass Kevin. Yeah, that’s the one from the private school in the area.
Yeah, her home life is nothing like mine. I know for a fact that my parents couldn't care less if I was around or not. A fact that will just be worse once I turn eighteen and they lose what little child care benefits they do get for me.
That was why, when my guidance counsellor, who knows what my home life is like, said that my marks made me eligible for an early graduation programme, I took it. Anything that would get me away from those people who call themselves my parents was good.
“What may I ask is the reason that this party is so epic?” I said as I looked at some of the clothes that were thrown on the bed.
“Well, you see…” Sara starts as she runs out of her closet with her arms full of more clothes. “…there are three guys from somewhere up north that are going to be there. They are older. Not too old. Same age as Kevin and Duke. But I heard that they were here to do business contract stuff with Kevin and Duke’s fathers.”
“Kevin? Kevin, the guy who broke your heart? The guy you swore to me that you would never talk to again? That Kevin?” I angrily whisper-yell at her.
Sara hung her head down and let out a long sigh. “Yeah, I saw him the other day when I was at the mall. I didn’t approach him. I swear.” Sara said, putting her hands together in a praying motion, trying to make sure I don’t get more upset with her.
” He was with Duke and Trish. Trish was the one who came up to me. You know that I always got along with her.” Sara walks over to the edge of the bed. “And she was just as pissed off with Kevin for what he did as you and I were,” Sara says as she dumps her armload of clothes on the bed next to me. “I think she did it on purpose… mentioned the guys that were going to be there in front of Kevin. Now that I think about it, it almost seemed like she was trying to see if Kevin would get jealous.”
“Sara, if you take him back…” I said, shaking my head at her, not sure how to finish that sentence. I want her happy, but I don’t want to see her hurt again either. “And he has no right to even think about being jealous after what he did. He had his chance and blew it. Big time.”
“I know, I know. But you should have seen him. Those shoulders, which I swear have filled out even more in the last two years. There is just something that keeps drawing me to him. I don’t know how to describe it. I don’t even have to see him to know that he is close. Everything in my body just… lights up. It is like there is electricity running through me. I know he is no good for me, but…”
I didn’t say anything else. I knew from the first time that I saw her with Kevin that there was something different about him and his friends. But he had hurt her, and I couldn’t see her go through that again.
An hour later, Sara and I walked up the path to the beach. We could already hear the music thumping and the shouts of excitement drifting on the wind. “Remind me again how I let you talk me into this,” I said to Sara as I tugged the skirt I was wearing down and the top up.
“Stop that. You look fine.” Sara says as she bats my hand away from my clothes. “The skirt is long enough that your ass cheeks don’t show if you bend over, and the shirt is high enough that you are not showing too much cleavage.” She said, adjusting the light jacket that I had on. “I stayed within your rules. They are just not what you are used to. You have curves that some guys like. Flaunt them and stop worrying so much, and have some fun. I’m not asking you to get wasted and make out with every guy here. I just want you to relax for a night and have some fun. Some nice conversation and maybe if you get brave enough… some dancing?” She says, wiggling her eyebrows at me.
Exhaling loudly, I looked Sara in the eye. “OK. Fun time it is, but you have to promise me one thing…” Sara bit her bottom lip because she knew what I was going to say. “… You stay away from Kevin. Deal?”
“Deal.” She said as she hooked her arm with mine and we continued up the path.
Raven POVIt has been three days since I blacked out at the cabin, and I have learned a lot in those three days. When I first woke up in the clinic, I talked with the doctor. He thinks I had a panic attack and passed out when I heard the sounds of bones cracking. He thinks that because I hadn't seen the shift, the sounds triggered flashbacks to when that man shifted and attacked me in the woods. It caused my brain to shut down instead of dealing with it.The day after I left the clinic, Jacob took Emma and me back to the cabin, where he explained more about being a werewolf. He explained that there is a high chance that Emma will grow to have a wolf too. I have never seen her so happy. She fired off question after question that Jacob patiently answered.Watching him with her made all the things that I have been through worth it. Listening to their conversation is when I found out that Emma had always known that there was something different about the man that had us. She explained tha
Jacob POVI shifted back, slipped into my jeans and was pulling my shirt over my head when I heard it. A thump, as if something had hit the front porch. I didn’t even stop to try and figure out what it was because all that mattered was that Raven was there.Reaching the corner of the cabin, I saw Raven lying on the wood of the porch beside the chair she had been sitting in. I climbed back over the railing that Coal had leapt over when he had left. I scooped Raven into my arms and took her inside. Lying her on the couch, I checked her head for any cuts or bumps but found none. My brain frantically tried to figure out what had happened. Was this being caused by something that had happened in the woods? Had there been something wrong with the food that I left her? “Raven, Princess, wake up,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm and failing. When Raven didn’t respond, I grabbed my phone and called Sara, hoping she might have an idea.“Hey, girl, just go talk to…”“Raven collapsed. Meet us
Raven POVWhen Jacob walked out the door, I fought to hold back the tears from coming again. I hadn’t been able to stop them when he had gone into the bathroom. I couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong. I went from scared to angry that he wouldn’t talk to me. I had grabbed the nearest article of clothing, which happened to be Jacob’s T-shirt. His scent was all over it, and for some reason it calmed some of my anger but not all of it.I didn’t know what to expect when Jacob moved the curtain and looked out of the shower at me, but the burning desire that appeared in his eyes was not it. Then his expression changed, and the next thing I knew I was wrapped in his arms, pressed against his chest. He was saying something that I wasn’t quite paying attention to because I was marvelling at the feel of Jacob’s muscular chest pressed to my cheek. How did he expect me to listen to what he was saying when he was holding me like this? But the sound of my stomach growling broke the spell.I fou
Jacob POVI wiped my chin and made my way onto the bed with Raven, making sure to kiss as much of her beautiful body as I could along the way. With each kiss, the need to mark and claim her permanently grew. I could feel my fangs drop as I reached that sweet spot on her shoulder. That spot that called to my animal side. It took every ounce of willpower that I had to hold back. But I knew that I couldn’t mark her, not yet anyway.Even when she let out that soft, sexy moan, I don’t think she even realized that she did. That moan called to me. I could almost hear her begging for me to mark her, but it had to be instinct. But no matter how much I wanted to, and her body seemed to want it, I would not do that until I had had a chance to explain what it all means to my kind.I sat up and turned my head away so she couldn’t see my fangs. I didn’t want to scare her. Even though she seems to have accepted what I am, she still has seen the full package. I was taking deep breaths, trying to get
Raven POVThis man loved me. Even with everything that I had gone through, he still loved me. He still wanted me. He wasn’t disgusted by me. And if he could accept me as I was, why would he think that I would want him the way he was? So what if he is a supernatural creature? He has shown me more love and caring than most humans that I have dealt with ever have. Besides, it just makes him even sexier.Jacob let out one of those little growls that I mentioned and deepened the kiss when a rub his hardened length through the fabric of his boxers. For a moment I get a flash of that bastard forcing me to unbuckle his belt and drop to my knees. Jacob must have sensed my hesitation because he quickly pulled away and looked at me with concern.“We don’t have to do anything. I don’t want you to feel as if this is the only reason that I said what I said. I love you, Raven, no matter what.” He pulled me tight against his chest. “The only thing I ask of you is for you to let me hold you. Anything
Jacob POVRelief washed through me as Raven began to kiss me back. I was just hoping that her reaction meant that she understood how much she means to me. That everything that I told her was true. I pulled out of the kiss and placed my forehead on hers.“Princess, we need to slow down before I can’t stop myself. You’re still healing, and the last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it is getting harder and harder to not take you right now. I don’t think you fully understand what being near you does to me.” I said, lifting my head to look into her eyes.Raven slid her hand up over my shoulder to the back of my neck and started playing with my hair. Raven started to pull my lips towards her, but I stopped her. Even though I think that I have convinced Raven that I want her in my life, I can’t let her agree to being with me until I have explained to her what I am. I closed my eyes, slid off the bed and started pacing. Raven moved to sit on the edge of the bed.“Jacob, what’s wrong? What
