Christine POV

My heart shatters, tears  spilling hot down my cheeks, mixing with the scent of my sorrow.

He saw those tears and yet decided to leave, knowing fully well I won’t get mad at him for long. I’ll always come crawling back on my knees, begging for his forgiveness. There has been how it use to be.

How I Christine, the daughter of a rival pack’s beta, left my family and my pack to join his, fighting through brutal challenges and exhausting moon runs just to be by his side, proving my loyalty in blood and sweat. Choosing him over my people.

No matter what, I have always had his back. When Rebecca left and followed another alpha, I was with him but yet, he never stop loving her.

And this time, with the “not mating” threat I gave him earlier. I am at my breaking point. Why would I say that to him? After how I anticipated to be his Luna. That’s so stupid of me. My inner wolf is sad too. What a ruined moment.

I feel she’s doing this intentionally, knowing fully well he loves her and he cannot ignore her, despite the fact that she's his ex who used to be a cheat.

Now, he’s choosing her over me again, leaving me in great humiliation.

The pack stares at me, whispers turning to outright shame. “What the hell?” one beta mutters. “The alpha just ran off?”

Chaos builds in the hall. I wipe my tears, take a deep breath and snatch the mic from the stunned emcee as I push through, channeling my inner strength. “Everyone, I’m sorry, but today’s ceremony is canceled…”

The hall explodes in their loud gasps. As I see the shock in their eyes.

“That’s not possible!” One say.

“She loves him so much and can’t call off the mating ceremony.”

“She’s got so much courage.”

“Does it mean she will no longer be the supreme Luna?”

“Oh dear moon goddess! This is an abomination! She can’t call it off.”

They’re voices kept coming but I ignored them all and dropped the mic as they all watch me leave.

I do not care. After this, I will be the laughingstock in the werewolf clan, the she-wolf who was humiliated and abandoned, her mate, chasing his ex mate.

It’s still unbelievable! Christine called off the wedding. No one can ever believe that but i actually did!

Everyone knows I love Harlan to death, I turned down mating alliances from other alphas to choose him with a cold heart. I suffered moon after moon with him, using my influence as the beta daughter to convince my father’s alliance’s to join him and some did but some refused. I did all that, only to be left at the altar for some whore.

I use to think being a good woman was everything but now, I know it all lies. Rebecca was no match for me. She’s a spoilt and mannerless bitch!

I reach outside, the cool air hitting my face. And just then I see him scooping Rebecca up in his hands. She looks pale but I ignore it because I know it’s all faked.

Just then, I approach him, my eyes still red from tears and my makeup already ruined by sweat.

“Harlan, how could you leave me? You went to her again.” Tears streaming down my chicks and my makeup ruined.

“Stop making a scene,” he says, his frown barely there, just emotionless.

Rebecca cups his face, her fingers tracing his jaw gently. She stares into his eyes and then speaks.

“My whole body aches. Please, I don't want to be here.” She sounds weak.

My first thought is he will snap at her for interrupting as he always does to me.

But now, he doesn’t snap. He lets her vent, her tears, wetting his wedding suit.

“Rebecca needs urgent treatment, I need to take her to the hospital. Don’t make a scene.”  He says as he carries her toward his car, at the back seat. Reality crashes over me, no matter how good I am to him as a wife, he would always choose her.

Day after day, year after year, I believed I could melt that ice around his heart. That his wolf would recognize mine and he would mark me, and that those alpha eyes would soften with affection for me.

But no. Harlan is not emotionless like I thought. He does have feelings but not for me. His wolf responds to her in ways it never has to mine.

I smile through my own tears, bitterly watching them drive away, a few people who were there film the scene with their phone as I stand there as the abandoned bride.

The bond I thought I felt everyday for him is shattered beyond amendment.

Back in the dressing room, I pull off the gown and take a good shower as I slept, not letting anything bother me.

All of a sudden, my wolf feels brave again.

The next day, I dressed in my jeans and shirt.

When I head to the pack office, all of a sudden , everyone who was gossiping falls silent. Eyes avert to me.

I ignore them. I know they must have heard the news of my failed mating ceremony.  They can gossip all they want but I’ve accepted my fate that he never wanted me, never saw me as his equal in the bond.

Without thinking, I print my resignation from my role as his advisor and sign it, placing it on his desk.

Just then, my phone vibrates. It is him calling.

“I heard you canceled the mating ceremony? Why didn’t you discuss it with me? Do you know how this damages the pack’s image, that’s an abomination in a werewolf kingdom. I’m the supreme alpha, did you forget that?”

“What else was I supposed to do?” I snap. “Let the whole pack sit there while you play savior to your ex, dear supreme alpha?”

He goes quiet for seconds. He did not expect my comeback because I’ve never challenged him.

Before he could say a word, a sweet voice interrupted the line. “Harlan, my waist hurts.  I need some massage.” That’s Rebecca’s voice. He’s been with her since he left the wedding venue.

“I’ll call you when I’m free.” He says and ends the call.

CHRISTINENathan was still staring at the torn paper in my hand or more specifically, at the black mask sitting on the table between us like it had suddenly become something alive. The office felt too quiet and I could practically hear the thoughts moving in his head as he slowly pieced things together.“What is going on?” he asked finally. His voice wasn’t loud and that somehow made it worse.I forced myself to stay calm as I folded the remaining torn piece of paper tighter in my palm. “It’s nothing serious.”Nathan looked at me for a long second like he couldn’t believe I even said that.“Christine…”“It’s handled.”“That,” he pointed at the mask, “does not look handled.”I exhaled slowly, I already knew this moment would come eventually.I just didn’t think it would happen like this.Nathan took a step closer. “Why are you acting like someone threatening you anonymously is normal?”“It’s not a threat.”His expression sharpened immediately. “Then what is it?”I didn’t answer becaus

CHRISTINEThe black mask sat inside my drawer like it belonged there like it hadn’t arrived anonymously inside my office barely an hour ago with a warning attached to it. I stared at the squeezed paper again before slowly closing the drawer shut. The unsettling part wasn’t even the message itself anymore. It was the fact that someone walked into my office and left it there without anyone noticing. They knew where I worked and they knew I resumed today and somehow, they knew I kept digging.A slow breath left me as I leaned back against my chair.I should probably tell Kael, it's actually becoming more serious than I had thought. The thought of telling Kael about it had crossed my mind for the tenth time already but I wasn't sure if telling him was the right thing to do now. He would get so mad, scold me and not allow me to get involved or investigate anything on my own and somehow, I wasn't ready for that. So, the thought died. My fingers tapped lightly against the desk before I

CHRISTINEMorning sunlight spilled through the glass walls of the penthouse, casting soft reflections across the floor as I stood in front of the mirror adjusting the sleeve of my blazer carefully. For the first time in over a week, I actually looked like myself again. The wounds had healed enough that I no longer needed proper bandages wrapped around my side. There was still soreness beneath the surface and the faint pull of healing skin whenever I moved too suddenly, but compared to days ago, it was manageable.Only thin protective strips remained hidden beneath my clothes now.I exhaled slowly before reaching for my bag. Finally, I was getting out of this apartment. If I had spent another full day indoors, I genuinely might have lost my mind.My thoughts drifted briefly toward everything that happened recently. The underground den, Dorian, the anonymous warning message and the mention of a woman as the one behind everything that has been happening to me. That last part still unse

KAELThe city lights blurred past the tinted windows as the car moved through Moonfall in complete silence.I sat back against the seat with one arm resting against the door while my thoughts replayed the last hour repeatedly.Christine lied to me and she was so calm about it.That alone wasn’t surprising because she had always known how to keep her expression controlled when she wanted to but tonight, something felt different. The image of her standing in her apartment flashed through my mind again. The way she quickly moved me away from Nathan, the way her laptop screen dimmed the moment I looked toward it and the way she kept pretending those guards naturally fell asleep was enough to tell me she was trying to hide something. A humorless scoff left me quietly. Christine Hale was many things but being careless wasn’t one of them. She drugged those guards intentionally and whatever she did afterward was connected to whatever was on that laptop. My jaw tightened slightly. That woman

CHRISTINEBy the time Nathan returned to the penthouse, the city outside had already drowned in darkness. The lights of Moonfall stretched endlessly beyond the glass walls, sharp and beautiful against the darkness, but I barely paid attention to them.My mind was elsewhere, it was still trapped inside that underground den and still replaying Dorian’s face.I could recall the way he stepped in so naturally, the way those people backed off without question and the way he kept avoiding direct answers while pretending he wasn’t hiding anything.None of it made sense.I sat curled slightly against the couch, my laptop resting on my thighs while one hand absentmindedly touched the plaster along my side. The wound still hurt not as badly as before, but enough to remind me it existed every time I moved too quickly.I can't wait for it to get healed fully, The sound of the door unlocking pulled me out of my thoughts.Nathan stepped inside a second later. His tie was loose and exhaustion clun

KAELThe moment the call ended, silence returned but it didn’t settle, it pressed instead.I just got off a call with the men I put to stand on guard at Christine's apartment. My grip tightened slightly around the phone before I set it down on the table with controlled precision. I didn't see it down carelessly but just enough to keep the irritation from spilling over into something unnecessary. They fell asleep, that was the explanation. Two trained men assigned a single task to just watching one person and somehow, they both “fell asleep.”That's such a useless statement.I leaned back slightly, my jaw tightening as the report replayed in my head.“She said she didn’t do anything.”Of course she did, I know her too well.My gaze lowered briefly. Christine must have drugged them, there was no doubt about it, no confusion or any possibility of coincidence. She had looked at the situation, calculated it, and removed the obstacle in front of her without hesitation and she did it whil
