A nervous wreck

“Kim!” I called out from my office. Within seconds, she opened the door and peered into my office. Her workstation was just outside my office. “Could you please give me today's schedule?”

She smiled. It was a fake smile that didn’t reach her eyes but I was now used to that. “Of course.” Closing the door, she disappeared and came back two minutes later with a printed A4 paper which she placed on my table. “Here's your schedule, Maya.”

She had returned to work for me at the beginning of that week and I was almost glad she was back when I saw her. I had accumulated a tonne of unfinished work and had no choice but to start giving her tasks. She is usually very efficient and that worked in my favor.

“Thank you,” I lifted the paper and looked through it. Everything was as should be. Eleven to twelve o’clock was not included as I instructed because I had some personal business to take care of. Instead of leaving immediately, she studied me.
