~Emma~
Today is the day I leave the Sacred Flame Healer Tribe. The Phantom Ridge pack representative will arrive to fetch me. The Alpha king's heir to the throne has been afflicted by a mysterious illness that no other healers can cure.
They summoned one healer from our tribe to cure the Alpha. If we didn't send someone to comply with their wishes they would use force to get one.
Grandma Dacia put a plain silver necklace around my neck. "Child, this necklace will protect you and keep you safe from harm. Once you arrive at the mansion, stay vigilant, be careful with your words and actions. Do not give them any reason to suspect you that you came to investigate why your cousin Josephine was missing," she reminded me sadly. Her eyes welled up.
Josephine was the daughter of my mother's older sister who had passed away along with my parents during the attack by barbaric rogue wolves. Josephine was raised with us by our beloved grandmother. She was like an older sister to me.
I took a deep breath and hugged my grandmother lovingly. "I will do anything to find out the truth, Grams," I said in a determined tone.
"I believe that your cousin didn't leave the mansion, they have done something bad to her that's why she's missing. If you find out they murdered her, make them pay a hundred fold!" Grandmother hissed. Her eyes were blazing with fury.
"Yes, I will make them pay a thousand fold!" I replied solemnly. I repeated my oath several times in my mind like a mantra.
"Good," Grandmother said, pleased with my reply. She put the black bag in my hand. "I trained you since you were young about healing and different types of poison and their antidote. The outsiders only knew we are a tribe of healers. They didn't know we had many hidden skills. Don't let them know more than they have to know. Do you understand?"
"I understand, Grams," I responded with a nod of my head. I put the black bag in my travel bag.
After hugging me one last time, Grandma left the room and my sister came in.
"Sis, take me with you. I can be your assistant. I want to live in the Alpha King's mansion!" Emily gushed excitedly. "Cousin Josephine told me that they have a big swimming pool there, modern appliances and lots of delicious food! I want to live in that kind of house. So luxurious!"
I rolled my eyes. "Sis, just stay here if you don't want to go missing just like cousin Josephine." I reprimanded her with a sigh. "I'm not going to the mansion to have a vacation. I'm going there to investigate why cousin Josephine went missing."
Emily pouted. "You are so lucky. You can live in a luxurious house and meet handsome Alphas. While I'm going to be stuck here for the rest of my life," she grumbled resentfully.
"It's your fault because no matter how hard Grandma tries to teach you everything about healing and poison making, you are not interested. It's not too late yet. Start learning while I'm away," I said, double checking the contents of my bag, making sure nothing would be left behind.
I have no time for my sister's drama. Right now my mind is preoccupied with what's waiting for me in the Alpha King's mansion.
Emily sighed. "I don't want to be a healer and poison maker. I want to be a fashion model!" She declared irritably.
I rolled my eyes.
"The city is a dangerous place for women like us to roam around. We are not werewolves. We don't have wolves that can protect us. If you start learning about healing and poison making you can protect yourselves out there and pursue your dreams at the same time. Beauty is not enough for survival, we need skill. Do you understand, sister?" I said, trying to drill sense into her thick skull.
Since she knows I don't have time for her whining, my sister left the room with a bang.
Brat!
I looked at the door with a sigh, shaking my head dejectedly.
Not everyone can enter the Phantom Ridge Pack mansion out of whim. It is off-limits to strangers, only invited people can enter. They think I can cure the Alpha's illness so I'm being summoned.
Will I be able to cure Alpha's crippling disease? I hope so. It all depends on what kind of disease the heir to the throne has. Ordinary illnesses can be cured easily, but the ones that are recurring and difficult to cure are mostly instigated by witches, poison makers and above all people with bad intentions.
Is it possible that the illness was caused by enemies lurking outside or inside the mansion, unseen by the Alpha King's family?
It's a big possibility.
And what exactly happened to my cousin Josephine? She was the last healer from our tribe that had been taking good care of the Alpha King's family for the last three years.
What happened to her?
Why did the Alpha King family declare that my cousin left the mansion in the middle of the night with her lover and never returned? They thought Josephine had a lover and eloped with him. The last time I talked to Josephine, my cousin told me that she had no lover or enemies inside and outside the mansion.
Josephine's statement and the Alpha King's family's claim are contradictory. Who is telling the truth or spewing lies?
Suddenly my brother entered the room. "The Alpha King's representative is here to fetch you, sister. Take care of yourself," he said.
I hugged my brother. The lingering feeling that I'm heading to the danger zone alone intensifies the uneasiness we both feel in our hearts.
"Watch your every step, sis. Be careful. The Alpha King's family is notorious for their excess and what not. You don't know what's waiting for you there," he warned.
"Thanks for the heads up, bro," I replied with a nod. "Take care of everyone. I'll come home soon after I solve Josephine's case," I told him.
Brother Arnold patted my shoulder affectionately. "May the spirits of our ancestors keep you safe from harm, sis."
"Thank you, bro," I said, my eyes welled up.
He grabbed my bag and we walked to the door and exited the room.
In the living room, my grandmother, Emily and my pregnant sister-in-law were waiting for us. I hugged them one by one.
"I gotta go," I said, walking to the door.
"Take care of yourself," they replied in chorus.
Outside our humble abode, a luxurious car was parked in front of our house.
A good looking guy was standing beside the car, looking at me.
Wow!
My heart skipped a beat.
Then my eyes widened in shock when our eyes met. He looks familiar! I think I saw him somewhere! But where?
The guy has piercing blue eyes, tousled brown hair, and a sun-kissed tone. His slightly rugged appearance enhances his masculinity, creating a magnetic appeal around him, making him the type of guy who can turn any woman's head.
I can't take my eyes off him because I finally remember where I saw him.
My brother put my bag in the car's trunk. "Take care, sis."
"You too," I replied. My heart was beating erratically in my rib cage. The guy's presence made me feel nervous.
The guy opened the door and ordered me in a gruff tone. "Get into the car, Miss."
I quickly got into the car and fastened my seatbelt nervously.
The guy slid into the driver's seat and started the engine.
I waved farewell to my family with anxiety and sadness in my heart.
The car was speeding towards the main road, leaving our village behind.
Heavy silence enveloped the car. My anxiety intensifies. The reason why I'm feeling uneasy right now is because this guy has been appearing in my dreams many times. I've been dreaming about him for five months.
In my dream, he commanded his terrifying wolves to catch me dead or alive. I always wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath, terrified because my dream feels so real. And now that I finally see him face to face, my dream is getting real!
This is crazy and surreal!
I had difficulty breathing. His presence terrified me.
After a few minutes of driving, the guy parked the car on the side of the road under the shade of a tree. He looked at me, observing my face.
"Are you okay, Emma? You look pale," he observed.
"I... I'm okay," I stammered.
"You know what? The first time I saw you, you looked familiar," he said. "Now I know why because we already met," he said. A muscle in his jaw twitched.
"Huh? W-Where?" I asked surprised. He only appears in my dreams and I have no memory of meeting him anywhere else.
"I met you in my dreams," he replied with his eyes glued to my face. "I kept dreaming of a beautiful woman with whom I shared a night in my bed and in the middle of the night when I opened my eyes, the woman was already holding a knife in her hands. She stabbed me repeatedly on my chest. She wanted to kill me in my dreams," he said. His lips drew back into a snarl.
I stared at him, frowning. "Why are you telling me about your dreams, sir? I'm not interested in hearing them," I said politely.
"Because that woman who stabbed me in the chest is you!" he said accusingly, his tone cold.
My eyes widened in shock. "Whaaaat!?"
~Emma~After spending the rest of the day with my family, chatting nonstop with everyone, we all call it a day with a promise to return next week for a proper family get together to be held in a nice private place, situated on the beach that can be rented for a few days, all expenses paid by Lucian. He's trying to impress and dazzle my whole family with his wealth every chance he gets.Well, I'm trying to act nice when he's around because I don't want to be labeled as the snobbish one. Before we left our house I returned the silver necklace to my grandmother in the privacy of her room. "Grams, thank you for giving me the chance to borrow this powerful necklace. Without it I'd already be dead by now," I said.Grandma smiled. "You are powerful on your own, child. You just need time to harness your power. By using this necklace you have tasted how good it feels to have limitless power at your disposal to defend yourself and save others from harm. You can borrow this necklace anytime to be
~Emma~It was a sunny afternoon. Alpha Jett and I were planning to visit another park within the city, the last one we hadn't visited yet.I was putting my essentials in my sling bag when my phone rang. I quickly answered it.The caller was my dear grandmother. "Hello, Grams..." I said, wondering why she called all of a sudden."Child, return home right away," Grams Dacia said."Why? Did something happen?" I asked anxiously."No, nothing bad happened. In fact something good happened today, your missing cousin Josephine finally came home!" Grams said happily."Whaaaaat? Is this true?" I shrieked in utter delight."Yes! Come back home immediately!" Grams said. "Josephine will explain everything to you about what happened to her during her disappearance. Hurry up! We will have a happy family reunion once you arrive!" she added merrily."OK, I will come home immediately, but I want to ask this question first. Did she come home alone?" I asked."No, she came home with her husband and her b
~Emma~The following day we woke up to a dark sky, heavy rain pouring outside like torrents."The weather is not good today," I commented, glancing at the transparent window."I think there is a hurricane coming," he said sleepily. "Today is a good day to just stay indoors, watch movies, just relax and chill," he said with a wink."Then go back to sleep sleepyhead," I said, smiling in amusement."Wake me up when December comes, babe," he joked."Okie Dokie, go back to sleep while I prepare our breakfast in the kitchen," I said, rising from the bed and entering the bathroom so I could start my day. After I finished in the bathroom, I went to the kitchen and prepared food for breakfast. One hour later, breakfast is ready. I arranged the dishes palatably on the table consisting of creamy waffles, sunny side up egg, ham and slices of ripe mangoes with two cups of hot espresso coffee.I went to the bedroom and announced, "Breakfast is ready!""Coming..." Alpha Jett replied.I returned to t
~Emma~I don't want to argue with Alpha Jett now that we are caught in the middle of this blood thirsty vampire."Babe, are you gonna back out on your words this time?" he asked. His jaw clenched.I took a deep breath, feeling guilty. "I'm sorry, but what is the use of having so much power if I can't even use it to help others?""Are you trying to be a hero now?" he asked between gritted teeth."I have no choice," I responded casually. "Didn't you see the women's faces? Their eyes were stamped with hopelessness. How can I turn my back on them? How long will they stay this way if we don't save them now?" I said."But we agreed to teleport beforehand if we don't see your cousin among the caged women? And you agreed to it," he reminded me. His tone was heavy with annoyance. We were busy conversing with each other when the announcer's voice rang in the air again, bringing us back to our present surroundings. That's when we noticed that all the vampires around us had already taken their ma
~Emma~"This one text informs us about a vampire den who are kidnapping women, suspected to be run by a powerful vampire. Do you think we can find Lucian there?" I asked.Alpha Jett fell silent for a moment. "Although it's the first call we have that tells us about vampires, it doesn't guarantee that Lucian is the powerful vampire leader of that vampire den. It could be anyone. For your information, Lucian doesn't run a vampire den and he doesn't kidnap women randomly," he said, trying to defend his family's friend.I snorted. "But he kidnapped my cousin. That makes him a bad vampire and a kidnapper! And if the texter is telling the truth, there are many women who are trapped in that mansion. What if Lucian owned the house or he was the one running that den?""Lucian would never do such things, period!" Alpha Jett insisted.I looked him in the eyes, getting annoyed at how he still trusted and defended that vampire kidnapper. "Tell me. How well did you know Lucian? Have you stayed by h
~Emma~After a good night's sleep, we woke up to a bright new day. We take our time at the dining table, enjoying the morning with our morning coffee and the delicious breakfast we ordered from the restaurant across the street. While eating we discussed our schedule for the day."We will go to the mall to buy groceries after we visit the newspaper headquarters," I said."Yes, ma'am. I'll obey all your orders," Alpha Jett jokingly said.I grinned. His absolute cooperation with my cause made me happy. We no longer fight or argue and I'm trying not to get upset easily. I'm trying to focus on the task ahead. I realized that getting mad at Alpha Jett and his family will not help me in finding Lucian and my cousin Josephine.I have to block out other negative thoughts and emotions in order to focus on my mission. As long as I have Alpha Jett and my family's unwavering support, I will achieve greater things in the future, including finding Josephine."How is your family nowadays?" I asked, p
~Emma~At 2:00 in the afternoon, we packed our bags and put them in the trunk of the car. After making sure we didn't leave anything behind, we left the house and got into our vehicle, ready to leave.Lucian's abandoned home has been our home for 7 days.I looked at the imposing old structure in front of me, sighing heavily."Are you okay?" Alpha Jett asked, inspecting my face."I'm fine," I responded with a smile. "Let's go to the city now and get this over with," I said.He replied, "Alright, let's teleport back to the area in the woods near the highway.""OK." I nodded my head.Alpha Jett initiated the teleportation process in his mind and we disappeared from the hill. A few moments later we appeared in a small clearing near the trees fifty meters away from the road. We were lucky because there were no passing vehicles at that time.He drove the car out of the woods and we traveled smoothly on the open highway."We have two main cities to choose from, West and East? Where should we
~Emma~The following day I woke up to a bright new day. The sun shone brightly in the sky above. The morning is great, no mosquito bites for me and my handsome companion who is still sleeping soundly beside me. I wonder when he slept, a while ago? Or he fell asleep the moment I drifted into a deep slumber.Anyways, I got out of bed, went to the bathroom and gargled water in my mouth and splashed some on my face to finally awaken my senses. When I emerged from the bathroom door a few minutes later, my companion was still sleeping so I let him be. He deserved a good sleep after staying awake last night.I exited the room and boiled water for coffee.A few minutes later, I got my mug, some crackers and settled comfortably on the chair on the balcony, enjoying my hot drink.I scanned the surrounding area and was greeted with the tranquil sight of the majestic mountains looming in the distance. This place is truly magnificent and ethereal especially during the early morning.I wonder where
~Emma~After six hours journey, we finally arrived at the castle aka a huge mansion situated on a hill overlooking the ocean. I looked at the gate, no guard was stationed at the massive iron rusted looking gate."That is Lucian's home," Alpha Jett pointed his hand at the massive house looming in front of us.The mansion looks like it belong to a bygone era. It has been abandoned for a long time. No movement or sound could be heard coming from the house. The only sounds I can hear are the sounds of insects and birds chirping above us, originating from the branches of the few trees surrounding the area. The vast lawn was taken over by overgrown wild plants and bushes."Do you want to enter the gate?" he asked. "Or leave and go home?""I won't leave." I said, shaking my head, refusing to leave until I saw my cousin alive. "Let's check the house and gather some clues," I responded, getting out of the car.Alpha Jett and I held hands and teleported inside the mansion. The place was huge. S
