Mercedes' POV

“The dragon is coming to get you,” I announced and the children squealed in delight as they ran away and I chased after them with a stuffed dragon in my arms.

“Penelope, the dragon only wants to be your friend.” I called out to her but the little girl shrieked as she continued to sprint away.

“Well I want nothing to do with it,” she called out from over her shoulders.

“But you are hurting his feelings,” I tried my best to stifle my chuckle.

“Carter not you too,” I shouted but the boy didn't even grace me with a response.

“Wait, you both should slow down.” I called out to them as my lungs burned but they ignored me and I stopped and placed my hands against my knees as my breath came out in huffs.

I stood up straight when I regained control of my breathing and began walking in the direction Penelope and Carter had ran off.

How were children so full of energy? I could swear they could run for hours without getting tired.
