CHAPTER ELEVEN

The car rocked as it veered off the main road, its tires crunched against gravel and loose stones. There was a small cabin at the end of the dirt road, covered by the darkness of the night and the dense forest just behind it.

It didn’t look that much, but it was home.

The car finally stopped, and I stepped out, inhaling the earthy scent of damp leaves and nature, letting it calm my nerves. The porch floors creaked softly against my weight as I pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The second it shut behind me, I let out a loud sigh and yanked the wig from my head, letting the suffocating persona of Evangeline Wolfe fall to the floor with it.

“I’m back!” I announced my arrival

“Finally,” I heard, and Isaac appeared from his room. That scared little boy I would hold in my arms when Victor went on one of his rampages was gone, and in his place stood a taller, leaner version of him with a sharp jawline and longer brown curls that fell between his shoulder blades.

“Well, well,” I tease

  • The Alpha's Fated Desire   CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND ONE

{Dominic}Varen flexed his newly grown fingers, admiring them like they were jewels and not the result of a severed limb seconds ago. A little roll of his shoulder, a dramatic sigh, and then—"That all you got?" he asked. "You really thought a little dismemberment would do the trick?"He chuckled, low and slow, and strolled a few steps toward me, his feet crunching over ruined stone with ease."Come on, Dominic. Hit me again." He slapped his chest with both palms. "Right here. I won’t even move. Promise.”His grin widened. “Hell, I’ll even spot you a few.”I knew he was lying.Didn’t matter, but I paused, even if only for a second, and stared at him. Not at the blood still drying on his lips, or the golden gleam of power behind his smug eyes. I stared through all of that.“I never wanted this,” I said.Varen tilted his head, mockingly curious.“I wanted peace. A future for my sister. My pack, my friends… even that traitor, Ryker. But you. You made sure I’d never have that.”He offered

{Dominic}She lay crumpled on the ground like her soul had been sucked dry and discarded. Her skin, once flushed with stubborn fire, had turned chalk white. Lips blue. Hands limp. Her chest barely rose, like her body couldn’t remember how to breathe. But that wasn’t the worst of it.“No… Lyra.”Blood leaked from her nose in a slow stream. Pooled from her ears. Her mouth hung open, a thread of red spilling down her chin like wine from a cracked goblet. And then her eyes. Her beautiful, defiant, loving eyes. They bled too. It wept from the corners like tears.Seeing her body like that snapped something in me.I didn’t feel horror.I was consumed by itA raw, tearing scream clawed up my throat, but I couldn’t let it out. It was stuck there, caged by agony that felt like it was chewing through my ribs.I was still pinned, three of those black-fleshed wraiths pressing into my shoulders and chest, but I barely felt them anymore. Their claws pierced into me, but their weight meant nothing.N

{Lyra}I stood in the clearing barefoot, the darkness silent but watching around me.Oddly enough, I could see clearly. Not beyond a certain point, but still.Alissa stood in the center, arms folded, jaw tight.“You’ve doomed us,” she said flatly.I blinked. “What?”“Again.”“What are you talking about?”Her eyes snapped to mine, and there was no warmth in them. “What he just force-fed you,” she said, voice sharp like a knife through butter. “Have you even been paying attention?”“I—” I tried to recall the taste, the way it had burned down my throat. “That was Soren’s essence, wasn’t it?”Alissa scoffed. “It’s not just his essence, Lyra. It’s what’s meant to give Varen immortality. And you… you just became the damn delivery system.”“I don’t—” I started, but the ground beneath us trembled suddenly, as if an earth quake had hit...‘What?’ I stumbled. Dust lifted in soft spirals. The darkness seemed to shake.Alissa tilted her head back, staring at the sky… whatever the sky looked like.

{Lyra}‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’I threw my arm out, and a stream of searing flame carved through the air. The corrupted wolf before me screeched as it burst apart mid-leap, smoke curling where its limbs had been.Another one lunged from my left. I spun low, slamming a shield of golden energy into its face, watching the force buckle its skull before it collapsed like a marionette with cut strings. The battlefield roared around me as screams, snarls and magic ripped the very air open. The world smelled like blood and brimstone, and my body was already slick with sweat, grime, and soot.My boots skidded across the broken earth as I pivoted, hurling another bolt of radiant power. It punched through two more monsters in a blink.“Back!” I shouted, pushing my radius wide. The wave shimmered outward, stunning the pack of rogues charging from the ridge. Several collapsed mid-run, foam bubbling from their mouths as Kael’tharis’s power raked through them like divine claws. It had so many

{Dominic}Walking into the war council tent felt like stepping into the center of a storm. The air was thick with anticipation, and the sharp rustle of cloaks and armor filled the silence. Everyone was already seated—Alpha Grimhold with his arms crossed like a stone statue, Dahlia flipping a dagger between her fingers, Allen murmuring softly. Eliza sat in calm confidence, sipping what I presumed was tea. Mace, Juno, and Felix perched nearby, eyes alert and tense. And then there was Lyra, she sat beside me at the head of the table. Her hand brushed mine under the table, and it grounded me enough to breathe.“Let’s begin,” I said, voice low but steady. All eyes turned to me. Even with the ache in my chest, and the sting of betrayal still raw and bitter on my tongue, I forced myself upright.I cleared my throat, “We’re calling this meeting for one reason,” I started, and already my throat burned, but not from poison this time. “Because I was betrayed by the one person I never thought wou

{Lyra}Varen’s roar echoed off the throne room walls. “Where are they?!” he bellowed, staggering backward as the last flicker of light burned out, leaving his eyes bloodshot and twitching. His eyes glowed molten gold, hair wild, chest heaving. One glance at his snarling face, and I knew I had maybe three seconds before he launched himself at me.“You little—!”I whispered the same incantation under my breath, already backing toward the shadows. Another explosion of light burst from my hands, blinding the entire room again.Varen screamed again, but this time in frustration rather than surprise, along with Ryker and the two guards flanking them. They clawed at their eyes, stumbling back, howling curses. My feet moved before I could think, and I darted through the haze of confusion, out of the throne room and toward the exit of the mansion. The second I burst out of there, I felt like I could breathe again. The battle was still alive and vicious. Smoke curled through the sky like a demo
