I ran like the ground behind me was about to explode. Isaac’s voice kept echoing in my head, asking for his sister.

And then the look on his face when I told him; the way his eyes dulled like someone had reached in and turned out the lights. I hated that I had to tell a boy who’d already lost too much that his sister was now possessed by the same witch who had placed the curse on Odessa.

Before I left, I made him promise that he’d stay put in the bunker, no matter what. His sister had sacrificed herself so mine could be saved, I had to bring her back.

By the time I made it back to the place where Alissa was, my lungs were seizing, and my legs felt like I’d sprinted through hell. The scent of ash and crushed greenery still clung to the air, thick enough to sting my nose. The trees were snapped at odd angles, as if someone had torn through them with reckless anger.

“Mace!” I shouted, eyes scanning the area.

She groaned from a crater in the ground, her leg bruised badly. Felix

{Lyra}I stared at him, heart pounding so loud it echoed in my ears. He turned and began to walk away, but not before tossing the vial back up, catching it neatly.“Sweet dreams, little witch.”The silence that followed his footsteps echoed louder than any scream. The vial’s glow still flickered behind my eyelids. He wanted to finish what Alissa started. He wanted to seal the curse and tie it with a pretty bow made of my blood. My life. And for what? Immortality? What use was a sad life that never ended? No useful bonds formed.“You’re pathetic, Varen.” I spat, but he obviously couldn’t hear me.I tried to slow my breathing, but my thoughts didn’t listen.“Dominic was dying. Alissa wasn’t letting go. Varen wants to kill me. I might as well be powerless.”I wanted to scream. I wanted to set the stone walls on fire with my bare hands and rip the chains off Mace and myself. I wanted to undo everything, rewind time, kiss Dominic’s stupid, furrowed brow, and tell him I never stopped bein

{Dominic }The first thing I noticed was that I wasn’t cold.In fact, I felt nothing at all. No pain, no ache, not even the slow crawl of breath leaving my lungs. Just a strange lightness — as if my body no longer remembered how to feel heavy. And for a while, I didn’t even know I was still… something. Well… I was concious. Wasn’t I?It meant I was existing, maybe. Simply floating in a void that felt neither warm nor cold. Was this what dying felt like?Just suspended in this velvet nothingness. No floor beneath me, no sky above. Just… blank. Like someone had erased the world with one massive swipe, like wiping a whiteboard. At first, there was only the dark — cool, and endless. But then something shifted, and light poured in, bright and blinding, the kind that should’ve scorched my retinas. Only… it didn’t. It was gentle somehow, wrapping around me like warm familiar embrace.I blinked. And blinked again. Not to wipe the blur from my vision, but to take in the brightness. It was pea

{Lyra}I sat there for a while, pondering my next move. I still couldn’t move, but my tongue tingled every once in a while, and I had a crazy idea to try and speak. My voice cracked on the way out, rough from disuse, but somehow, it made it through the heavy silence. One of the figures in the corner lifted her head.“Mace,” I tried again, louder this time. She turned, her eyes flicking toward me with suspicion. I willed my gaze to hold hers like it mattered more than breathing.“What did you just say?” she muttered.“Mace… It’s me. Lyra.”She stood slowly, chains clinking as she did, and stalked across the cell like a cautious predator. When she got close enough to see my face, her lips curled into a snarl.“Nice try, witch.”“No, no—it’s not her. It’s not Alissa. I swear, it’s me,” I said quickly, blinking hard, trying to force some truth into my eyes. “I don’t know how to prove it, but I’m me, Mace. I’m Lyra.”Mace squinted. “You expect me to believe that after everything that’s hap

{Lyra}The first thing I noticed was the sky. It was grey and heavy with clouds. The second thing was the unmistakable scent of home. Not my real home, of course. That was long gone, burned to ash by betrayal and time. But the place my heart had stupidly started calling home before everything fell apart—Dominic’s mansion. At least what was left of it.Alissa, who was still very much the pilot of my body, stood tall beside Varen as he led the way through the iron gates, but I felt her pulse quicken by the second. We were back. The grand doors had been broken off their hinges. Rubble framed the entryway like the jagged teeth of a monster. The windows were shattered. Curtains were torn and thrown all over the floor. The place looked like it had been chewed up and spit back out by a raging storm. But it was the people I saw who really made my stomach turn.Dominic’s pack members stood in tight clusters around the wreckage, looking both lost and scared. It was almost like someone had turn

{Dominic}It should’ve rained. The sky should’ve opened up and poured every ounce of heaven’s wrath on Crownshaven, just to match the way my chest felt like it had caved in. But no. The skies were blue, mockingly clear. And a warm breeze swept across my blood-soaked shirt like the deities above were applauding my fall.I was dragged across the ground. Literally. Two of Varen’s warriors had me by the arms, hauling me across the marble like I was yesterday’s garbage. My feet scraped lifelessly behind me, boots leaving a trail of blood and broken pride all the way to the front gates of the villa.“Mind the step,” one of them muttered, and then ruthlessly shoved my already battered body down the stone stairs.I hit every single one.“Son of a—” My voice cracked as I rolled, bones screaming with every jolt. My vision sparked white at the edges. I bit back the groan climbing up my throat because I’d be damned if I gave them that satisfaction.Corvin was waiting at the bottom, looking every

{Lyra}It’s strange, really, how you can be alive, but not fully living. Breathing, but not in control of your own lungs. Watching the world through your own eyes, but behind a locked door, screaming into a darkness that no one else can hear. That’s exactly where I was… trapped inside myself in a room with no walls, no floors, no ceilings. Just an endless black space where I floated, watching as Alissa wore my body like a coat. She had promised she’d leave Crownshaven, but I guess she wasn’t going to leave until she had gotten her revenge fully out of her system, and that meant marching straight toward the Elder’s villa and ending up in a fight with the man I loved. Dominic Bloodhound.I watched it all like a movie playing in my head. How she threw spell after spell at him, how she mocked him with my own voice. I hated every single second of it, but there wasn’t anything I could do.As the fight raged on and things got even more serious, all I could do was stand there, deep inside my
