“Varen.” My brows furrowed as I muttered his name.

How the hell had I forgotten about him?

Between Odessa being possessed and Lyra disappearing off the face of the earth, then suddenly reappearing, my head had been buried in fires I could barely contain.

I gritted my teeth and exhaled. “What's the status report?”

Ryker took a deep breath, almost like he was pulling himself together. “Varen was spotted near the railway depot at the south side of Crownshaven with a few rogues. No corrupted creatures yet, but I wouldn't take that as a blessing. It could be recon, or it could be bait.”

“Or both,” I muttered, jaw tightening.

“Exactly.” Ryker nodded grimly. “This is Varen we’re talking about. I’d bet my last beer he’s trying to lure us out. And with everything else going on—”

“We can’t afford to take chances.” I exhaled hard.

Dahlia stepped forward, “I’ll go with Lyra to find the witch,” she said. “You and Ryker handle Varen.”

The logic was sound, but my gut twisted immediately.

{Dominic}The road back to Crownshaven was darker than I expected. Maybe it was the clouds, maybe it was my own shadow stretching longer after everything I'd lost in the span of 48 hours. We traveled by moonlight, slipping through the forest like shadows with an agenda. The path was tight, crooked, and overgrown,Ryker moved a few paces ahead of me, silent for the most part, occasionally brushing aside a low-hanging branch or grumbling when his boots hit a root.“Are we close?” I asked, ducking under some overgrowth that clung to my shoulders.Ryker glanced back, grin sharp under the moonlight. “Starting to think I dragged a ghost with me. You’ve barely made a sound.”“I’m savoring the peace,” I muttered. “Won’t be much of that once we walk into a warzone.”“Fair enough.”Another mile passed. The wind had a cold bite to it, but the walk was brisk enough to warm the blood in my sore limbs. Despite the tension humming beneath my skin, I could feel myself returning to that old rhythm of

{Lyra}The walls of my mind cracked like lightning had kissed the edge of sanity. It felt like an off-key violin screeching through my skull at full volume. Everything inside me was shaking—like an earthquake tearing through my soul.“Do you seriously believe you can just push me out?” Alissa asked. Her voice sounded more like a shrill storm in the dark.I stood in the middle of the black void, barefoot and unshaking. My skin glowed with silver streaks of lightning, trapped under my veins and a strange energy hummed inside of me.“I’m not leaving,” I said calmly, taking a step forward. “You hijacked my body, ruined everything, and now you’re mad that I want it back?”“You offered your body in exchange for Odessa, lest you forget.” Alissa’s expression twisted. “You’re weak, Lyra. Face it.”Funny how words hit differently when you’ve already heard them all your life. From Victor, from strangers, from even myself, sometimes. But not anymore… not today.“I’m not weak,” I said. “You’re jus

{Dominic}Before anything else could be said Ryker pulled me into a hug so tight I thought he’d finish what death started.“Easy,” I grunted, barely keeping the groan in.He didn’t let go.“Damn it, Dominic. You can’t do that to me,” he muttered.I froze for a second. Then wrapped my arms around him, ignoring the pain dancing across my ribs.It wasn’t just a reunion hug. It was the kind you gave a brother who you thought was dead.He finally stepped back, looking me over with narrowed eyes like he was trying to make sure I was really here.“You died, man.” His voice dropped, letting a flood of emotion overwhelm him for a few precious breaths.I exhaled slowly, not quite sure how to process everything myself. He rubbed his hands down his face. “Shit. I knew it. I felt it. The second it happened, it was like something snapped in my chest. And I just, I couldn’t sit still. Couldn't believe it. So I came running.”He paced a little, stepping around a shelf of dried herbs and what looked

{Dominic }My eyelids were heavier than stone, but I managed to pry them open despite some force resisting me.Dim orange light filtered in through a cracked window. The room smelled of sage, iron, and something else, probably burnt herbs. My body felt like a battlefield, every inch screamed. Bandages wrapped tightly around my chest, arms, and legs. I tried to move, but my limbs barely twitched at first."Well, you're alive. That’s something."The voice was oddly melodic. Nothing like the one I'd encountered in that… whatever that was, yet it sounded familiar. Like in some world they might come from the same person.‘What a way to wake up after… well… dying…’I turned my head slightly. A woman sat beside me, thread in hand, calmly stitching a gash across my side like I was some doll. She wasn't exactly old, but she had the weight of age on her shoulders. Her hair was like ash, streaked with black, and it fell down her back in thick bundles. Her hands were steady, a tell of the trade.

{Lyra}I stared at him, heart pounding so loud it echoed in my ears. He turned and began to walk away, but not before tossing the vial back up, catching it neatly.“Sweet dreams, little witch.”The silence that followed his footsteps echoed louder than any scream. The vial’s glow still flickered behind my eyelids. He wanted to finish what Alissa started. He wanted to seal the curse and tie it with a pretty bow made of my blood. My life. And for what? Immortality? What use was a sad life that never ended? No useful bonds formed.“You’re pathetic, Varen.” I spat, but he obviously couldn’t hear me.I tried to slow my breathing, but my thoughts didn’t listen.“Dominic was dying. Alissa wasn’t letting go. Varen wants to kill me. I might as well be powerless.”I wanted to scream. I wanted to set the stone walls on fire with my bare hands and rip the chains off Mace and myself. I wanted to undo everything, rewind time, kiss Dominic’s stupid, furrowed brow, and tell him I never stopped bein

  • The Alpha's Fated Desire   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-FOUR

{Dominic }The first thing I noticed was that I wasn’t cold.In fact, I felt nothing at all. No pain, no ache, not even the slow crawl of breath leaving my lungs. Just a strange lightness — as if my body no longer remembered how to feel heavy. And for a while, I didn’t even know I was still… something. Well… I was concious. Wasn’t I?It meant I was existing, maybe. Simply floating in a void that felt neither warm nor cold. Was this what dying felt like?Just suspended in this velvet nothingness. No floor beneath me, no sky above. Just… blank. Like someone had erased the world with one massive swipe, like wiping a whiteboard. At first, there was only the dark — cool, and endless. But then something shifted, and light poured in, bright and blinding, the kind that should’ve scorched my retinas. Only… it didn’t. It was gentle somehow, wrapping around me like warm familiar embrace.I blinked. And blinked again. Not to wipe the blur from my vision, but to take in the brightness. It was pea
