{Dominic}

The scent clawed at the back of my throat like mildew mixed with blood, such a horrid smell definitely didn’t belong in my territory.

It wasn’t the first time I’d seen something like this. On the night of the gala, when that fire broke out, I had stumbled upon the same kind of corpse. It was burnt, horridly disfigured, and corrupted by something so vile, it reeked of forbidden magic.

I disposed of it before any other person found it, and Ryker was the only other person who knew of their existence. He's been helping me keep an eye out ever since.

I crouched beside the blackened remains of the corpse. Most of the skin was charred off, and what remained had fused with the stone beneath. I reached out and touched the Bloodhound crest, brushing ash away with two fingers.

“Who is he?” I asked without looking up.

Ryker shifted behind me, “Name was Butch. One of our border runners.”

“He’s part of the scout class?”

“Yeah. He was in the lowest tier, but loyal kid. Never missed a shi

    {Ryker}“Reina!” I called out, voice cracking under the pressure.No answer came. Only more chaos.The wolves scattering only made it worse. I sprinted through the battleground… what was left of it at least in the direction of the sound.I didn’t care if any of them would use this moment to attack me.All I could think was that maybe she was in trouble. Maybe she needed me, and maybe — just maybe — this time I wouldn’t fail her. Maybe I’d get to tell her that I was sorry. That I never stopped thinking about her. That I never meant to let things fall apart. That even as a traitor, I still loved her. I did it all… for her.I crashed through a wall of low branches, heart pounding louder as I raced deeper into the woods. Where Varen and Dominic had just passed.I dreaded every second of anticipation. Had she been attacked by a Corrupted beast? Did the warriors miss any?A thousand and one excuses bloomed in my mind as I thought of what I would say. A faint curl played on my lips.‘Maybe s

    {Ryker}The battlefield had become a graveyard of roars and dying things.Wolves tore through rogue flesh. The Corrupted screamed as they fell. The night trembled with the weight of it all. Every shriek, chant, and death rattles that echoed like thunder.For every Corrupted or rogue they managed to kill, three took their place.The numbers were simply too much for Dominic’s wolves.And through it, I walked untouched.The beasts, the Corrupted ones, parted for me as the recognized brother of their creator.The rogues did the same, not because I led them. But because I had once done so, without Dominic realising.And to my former allies? I was the enemy's brother. That was who I was now.Someone shouted, “Ryker! There!”A pair of soldiers broke through the skirmish, snarling. But Allen stopped them with a raised arm. “Leave him. He’s not worth it. We’ve got actual enemies.”The soldier hesitated, still pissed. “He betrayed the Alpha!”“He betrayed everyone, but that’s not your fight rig

    {Lyra)The flame spread up his bleeding stomp before dying out.And this time… it stayed that way… for a bit at least.It was healing, but slower. At a snail's pace compared to before.He noticed too.Varen stared at the wound with a snarl contorting his face. His body trembled like he couldn’t understand what had happened."HOW?!" he roared.I grinned, pushing a bloodied strand of hair behind my ear. “I guess you’ll never know.”His face darkened, his golden eyes narrowed into slits. Yet I could feel all the malice in his gaze.Then he lunged.And we met him in kind.Meeting in claws, fists and spells. But there was a difference now. He wasn’t taking the hits like he used to. Gone was the overconfident tanking, the smug walk-through-fire persona.Now he was dodging. Deflecting. Blocking.And it was almost… ironic. Because the moment he began to defend himself like the rest of us, the pressure lifted slightly.He moved differently now. Still fast. Still brutal. But less reckless. And

    {Lyra}Just before the space was destroyed.Before the last of my power was absorbed.Before I opened my eyes and watched Varen stare me down, I had one final conversation with Alissa.Her voice was faint, the sound of it already weakening. Her presence — what remained of her — looked ghostly and see-through.“He’s immortal now,” she said, and there was no softness in it. No comfort. Just a heavy, cruel truth.I paused for a few precious seconds, taking in the information.“I figured,” I answered finally.“There’s nothing that can kill him,” she continued, each word growing fainter.“No blade, no spell. No wolf. He will outlast all of it… and maybe that will kill him first. But Varen isn't that weak-willed.”“Alissa.”She paused.“Stop dancing around it.”And finally, she smirked, or maybe I imagined it.“Almost nothing…”I frowned, tilting my head. I didn’t want to believe that. But I was hopeful.She continued: “...you can kill him like we treat venom.”I blinked. “What?”“You make

    {Lyra}Everything was glowing.The light around me pulsed like a heartbeat, filled with warmth… but it couldn’t hide the stillness pressing into my skin. My body didn’t ache anymore. The curse was gone.But still… I was shaking.My knees dipped, hands scrabbling weakly against the earth until they found what I didn’t want to find. My fingers tangled in long hair, then cool skin, fabric soaked in what could be sweat.My breath caught in my chest, and I refused to say why.The world didn’t feel real yet.Not the silence. Not the stillness. I moved as if I was in a dream, aware of every beat of my heart but none of it fully my own.There was life in me again… but there was dread too. An echo, like something had been taken and my soul felt the absence.I opened my eyes slowly.And looked down at her.My mother.Eliza.She lay cradled in the still-burning center of the dome, her face turned slightly to the side, lips parted as if she were whispering some final incantation I had been too l

    {Eliza}I dropped to my knees beside Lyra’s body, trembling hands already weaving a spell.The barrier sprang to life around us with a soft shimmer. Clear as glass, but sturdier than steel. The chaos outside blurred behind it, silenced.It was like stepping into a bubble of still time. Only here, inside this fragile world, could we breathe.I glanced down at her.My daughter.Her skin looked too pale, like candle wax stretched thin. Her breath was nonexistent. Only the faintest pull of air between cracked lips, only the shallowest twitch of her chest, told me she still hovered somewhere near the edge.The pain she was in... I couldn’t feel it, but I knew. The curse inside her was the only thing keeping her alive. A cruel irony… torment as the anchor to life.I set my palm to her chest and began the spell.I whispered as a soft glow began to rise, circling us like mist.“You can’t even scream. You're suffering, and she can’t even scream…” I murmured, voice catching in my throat.She d
