Juni’s POV

The door closes.

I hear his footsteps move down the corridor, steady and unhurried, and then the bond-pull stretches in answer—thin, insistent, a low ache that settles behind my ribs and does not ease.

Three days. The first of them is already bleeding away, and the man who has been asking about this room is still walking free inside the same walls.

I make myself move. Window first: Summit grounds still busy under the afternoon light, banners shifting, people crossing the courtyar

  • The Alpha’s Forbidden Omega   The Door

Kieran’s POV The second knock is still echoing when I put myself between Juni and the wood. Adrenaline is already running hot under the bond—protective, absolute, and tangled with the unfinished heat of the moment that had almost closed the distance between us only a breath earlier. I can feel her at my back: still, ready, the same woman who stepped closer this morning and stopped only because both of us chose to stop. The line is still there. It has never felt more temporary. I open the door. Lien stands in the corridor at a polite distance, hands visible, expression arranged into careful neutrality. He does not flinch when he sees me. That alone is information. A guilty man would have found a reason not to be here. A careful one has already decided how this conversation should look—and how close he can stand while he delivers it. “Alpha Voss.” His voice is smooth. “I apologize for the hour. I was told the closed rooms might require fresh water before the morning meal service.

  • The Alpha’s Forbidden Omega   Day Two

Juni’s POV I wake to the thin gray light of early morning and the knowledge that he is still in the room. Not on the bed. Not close enough to touch. He is in the chair against the far wall, the same measured distance he has held since the courtyard, but the distance no longer feels clean. It feels stretched thin enough to vibrate. The bond-pull sits low and constant behind my ribs, warmer than yesterday, thick with the memory of how hard it had been for both of us not to close the space when he came back from the dark. He is already awake. I know it by the stillness. By the way the bond answers the moment my breathing changes. “You didn’t sleep,” I say. “Enough.” His voice is rough with the early hour. “Wren will be here at first full light. Until then the door stays locked.” I sit up. The room is cool. My scent is stronger in the closed air after a night of shallow sleep—cedar, rain on warm stone, and the quieter note the bond has been pulling between us since the avenue. I se

  • The Alpha’s Forbidden Omega   After Dark

Kieran’s POV Full dark comes slower than it should. I leave the room only after the night watch is in place and only after Juni has looked at the locked door and nodded once. The bond-pull stretches the moment the latch closes behind me—sharper than daylight, still carrying the residual heat of the breach and something denser underneath it. I feel her on the other side of it the same way I felt the spike when Lien knocked: present, awake, no longer only enduring. The stretch is no longer just distance. It is reluctance. Wren is waiting at the end of the corridor, already stripped of anything that would catch light. “Positions?” “Two on the service gates. One in the lower stairwell that feeds this wing. One covering the supply corridor he used yesterday. I pulled the junior steward he questioned this afternoon and put him on inventory in the far kitchens for the night. If Lien wants information on the closed rooms, he will have to come looking for it himself.” “And Lien?” “In th

  • The Alpha’s Forbidden Omega   The Stretch

Juni’s POV The door closes. Window first: Summit grounds still busy under the afternoon light, banners shifting, people crossing the courtyards in the purposeful patterns of a gathering that has begun to choose sides. Somewhere down there Seraphine is turning a public refusal into leverage. Somewhere Alder is testing the edges of the Council’s delay. Somewhere beyond the walls Crane is reading a note that left these grounds with plain wax and no crest. And somewhere much closer, a steward named Lien is performing ordinary duties while watching the same door I am standing behind. The bond-pull does not care about any of it. It only

  • The Alpha’s Forbidden Omega   The First Cut

Kieran’s POV The public gallery outside the eastern council rooms is already half full when I arrive. Word travels faster than footsteps in a gathering this size. Seraphine stands near the tall windows with two of her father’s Betas at a respectful distance. She has dressed with deliberate simplicity, as if she has come only to speak and not to perform. The performance is in the simplicity itself. The bond-pull stretches thin the moment I leave the guest wing—a low, insistent pressure that grows sharper with every corridor I put between myself and the locked door. I do not let it change my pace. Wren stays three steps behind me, silent. Seraphine turns as I approach. Her expression is composed, but the composure is thinner than it was in the inquiry chamber. The public injury is still fresh, and she has not had time to seal it completely. “Alpha Voss,” she says, voice clear enough to carry to the nearest listeners. “Thank you for agreeing to speak. I had hoped for privacy, but I u

  • The Alpha’s Forbidden Omega   Three Days

Juni’s POV “Three days,” he says. The words land in the quiet room like a stone dropped into still water. I feel the ripples move through me—relief first, sharp and brief, then the colder understanding of how little time that actually is. “Then we’d better use them,” I answer. Kieran closes the door behind him. He doesn’t come closer than the foot of the bed. The bond-pull settles the moment he is inside the room again, as if it has been stretched thin across the Summit grounds and has only now been allowed to rest. I can still feel the strain of it in my own chest, the echo of however far he had to walk to stand in front of the Council and put his mother’s letters on a table for me. He looks tired in a way that has nothing to do with sleep. The careful control he wears in public is still in place, but underneath it something has been spent. “What did it cost?” I ask. He is quiet for a moment, measuring the question. “The letters are now part of the formal record. Alder is furi
