Some days later, after extensive research into Aeliana's past, I walked into my office, closing the door behind me, and I moved to my desk, where I'd spread out the documents David and I had found. Different written reports... all pieces of a puzzle that were starting to come together into a picture I could barely believe.
Aeliana stood by the window, waiting with visible anxiety.
"Before I show you what I found, I need you to understand something," I began carefully. "Your entire life, you've believed you were an orphan. Without family or past, just vague memories of waking up in a forest and being taken in by a woman named Mara."
"Yes," she said slowly. "We discussed this in the meeting earlier. What does this have to do with..."
