“I swear Kieran you better be kidding me. It starts today you know.”

“I know. But I’ll be there I promise. By nighttime we will all be there. Inform the pack.”

“If you’re not here by then, I will kill you I swear.”

I laughed.

“Don’t laugh. I’m being serious.”

“Okay ma’am.”

She added softly, “I miss you.”

“I love you.”

“Love you.”

She hang up.

I wanted to tell her about the frequency I picked up. The way it made my body hum excitedly and how it made me feel alive.

But something held me back.

The negotiations had already began when I got the phone call from Aurelia, asking if we were on our way and where we had reached.

I told her that we’d just started and although she wasn’t happy one bit, she made me promise I’d be there by tonight.

After this, the pack members and I were going to pass by the town and check on the town mayor, who also happened to be a member of the pack.

“Take care of Willowbrooke for me Darkhowl.” Elder Alfred said.

I nodded.

“And don’t mess around with vampires.”

“I won’t.” I said sternly.

I could see him sign the paperwork with shaky hands. This was definitely tough for him.

“When will you be leaving.” I asked.

Tonight. The full moon will protect us from the vampire.”

He slid the paperwork to me.

“God be with you and you pack Alfred.” I said “I wish I would do any more to help.”

“No no no. Even if you did, you’d only be putting your pack in the path of annihilation.”

I finished signing the paper work. And we shook hands.

As we headed outside, elder Alfred turned to me. “And when you find your mate, treat her like the queen she is. You hear me.”

“ I already found my mate.”

He looked at me for a long time, confused. Then shook his head.

“Oh” he laughed hesitantly.

“I’m getting rusty around the edges. You know there’s a time just by the scent of your energy, I’d tell if you were mated, or not, or about to be.”

“Ah” I said.

“Any cubs.”

“Not yet. We’d decided to wait for two years.”

“You generation.” He shook his head disappointed.

“Anyways. Treat that woman properly. You know alphas tend to get domineering, or losing themselves in their duties, in that they forget their husbandly responsibilities to their wives. Don’t be that kind of alpha.”

I was that kind of alpha. Here I was so far away from home on the day the full moon was supposed to start.

“Love her, she will feel loved and do right by you.”

He turned to Drake as he headed towards us. “You’re mated, yes?”

Drake grinned widely and rubbed his hands in anticipation, “Yes. Can’t wait to get these hands on my queen.”

“This one I can tell.” Elder Alfred said satisfactorily.

“Such a joy.” He sighed.

As we entered the Cadillac Escalade, we said our farewells to the Hollow Moon pack and wished them Godspeed.

“Where to boss?” Drake asked as we left the Hollow Moon keep. We’d promised to send someone the next day when they left to clear the property for our next endeavors.

“We’re going to see Boris.”

Boris was the town mayor of Willowbrooke. My father had left him in charge to run all the various businesses we owned—the timber factory, the properties and the local bank.

I could see Drake and Dolph, the only other mated werewolves in the car weren’t happy about this.

“We will be out in a minute.” I promised.

The closer we got to the town, the louder the hum underneath my skin got.

When we reached Mayor Boris’s office, I couldn’t concentrate.

“Boss!” Mayor Boris called to me.

“Boris. Good to see you.”

“You know, when you called me I didn’t actually think you were going to come given you have more important priorities.”

I wanted to snap at him. But instead I ignored him and asked how everything was doing.

“Yes let me show you around. Or should we go to my office and look at the paperwork first?”

I could see Drake, my most intelligent member wasn’t in this as well and I needed him to be. His head was preoccupied.

“Tell you what, how about you email us what is necessary. And then I’ll send Alex when it’s not a full moon to check in on everything. Yeah?”

“Yeah that sounds great.”

When I reached the car, I ordered the rest of the pack to go on without me.

“I still have private business to attend to here.”

I had to find the source and figure out what sorcery this was. I had to find out what was drawing me in.

He handed me his car keys without asking questions.
