The heavy wooden door of Room 302 felt less like an exit and more like the opening of a trap. Avery stood frozen, her fingers gripping her textbooks so tightly the cardboard corners dug into her palms. The crowded hallway of West Hall, usually a chaotic blur of rushing students and loud chatter, seemed to fade into a dull, distant hum.

Everything narrowed down to the towering figure stepping away from the stone wall.

Jake moved with a slow, predatory grace that completely contradicted his massive size. He was still wearing his black university track pants and a sleeveless training shirt, his broad shoulders and heavily tattooed arms glistening with a faint sheen of post-practice sweat. The sheer heat radiating from him seemed to warp the air, melting the chill of the building's air conditioning long before he reached her.

As he closed the distance, the students navigating the corridor naturally parted around him, casting curious, whispering glances at the star athlete. Jake didn’t look at a single one of them. His emerald-green eyes were locked entirely on Avery, burning with an intense, calculated focus that made her inner wolf scratch wildly against her mental restraints.

Calm down, Avery commanded herself, forcing her expression into a mask of polite, human annoyance. He is just an arrogant athlete. He doesn't know anything.

"Leaving so fast?" Jake asked, his voice dropping into that smooth, dangerously deep register that sent a violent tremor straight down her spine. He stopped just two feet away, completely cutting off her path toward the exit. "We didn't get to finish our conversation last night... Avery."

Avery swallowed the lump of panic rising in her throat. She forced herself to look up, meeting his piercing gaze with wide, blank eyes, projecting the perfect illusion of an ordinary girl being bothered by a campus jock.

"Do I know you?" she lied, keeping her pitch light and defensive. "And how exactly do you know my name?"

Jake tilted his head, a slow, knowing smile tugging at the corner of his sharp jawline. He leaned down slightly, invading her personal space just enough to let her inhale his scent—a intoxicating mix of cedarwood, rain, and raw masculine power. "I make it a point to know the names of people who crash into me in the dark. Especially when they leave a mess behind."

Avery frowned, her heartbeat hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. "A mess? I didn't leave anything in that alley."

"Yes, you did," Jake murmured, his voice softening into something low and entirely possessive. His gaze dropped to her lips for a agonizing second before snapping back to her eyes. "You left me unable to think about anything else all damn night. Now... I think you owe me a proper introduction."

"Look, whoever you are," Avery said, taking a step back to re-establish her boundaries, though her soul screamed at the loss of his proximity. "It was an accident. It was dark, it was pouring, and I was just trying to get back to my dorm. I don't have time for whatever campus game you're playing."

"It's not a game," Jake countered, his eyes darkening as his wolf reacted to her rejection. The beast inside him hated when she pulled away. He reached into the pocket of his track pants, his large hand emerging with a small, delicate silver object. "You dropped this when you ran off."

Avery glanced down, her breath hitching. Resting on his broad, calloused palm was a tiny, intricately carved silver feather charm. It was a cheap trinket she had bought at a local market months ago, usually attached to the zipper of her backpack. She hadn't even realized it had torn off during their collision.

"My charm," she whispered, reaching out instinctively to take it.

The moment her bare fingers brushed against his palm, the universe seemed to shatter.

An electric shock, twice as violent as the night before, erupted from the point of contact. It ripped through Avery’s veins like liquid fire, melting the icy shroud of her scent masker for a fraction of a millisecond. Her inner wolf surged forward, letting out a desperate, echoing cry of Mate! that almost tore through her throat.

Jake gasped audibly, his fingers instantly curling around hers, locking her hand in his firm, warm grip. His green eyes flared a vibrant, glowing emerald as his chest heaved. He felt it again—the terrifying, beautiful peace that silenced the constant, roaring chaos of his Lycan nature. Her touch was an absolute drug. But as he tried to catch her scent through the shock wave, all his hyper-tuned senses picked up was the dull, infuriatingly human smell of cotton and vanilla.

Why? his mind roared in frustration. Why does a human make me feel like the world is standing still?

Avery ripped her hand out of his grip, trembling, her face pale as she clutched the silver charm to her chest. "T-thank you for returning it," she stammered, her human mask slipping for the first time. "I have to go."

"Wait," Jake commanded, his voice laced with a subtle hint of Alpha authority that made her knees want to buckle. He stepped forward, blocking her again, his mind racing to find a reason—any reason—to keep her from walking away. "You're a Classical Literature major, right?"

Avery blinked, caught off guard. "How do you know that?"

"I asked around," Jake admitted without a shred of shame, crossing his arms over his chest. "And it turns out, I'm in desperate need of your help. I'm failing my advanced lit seminar. If my GPA drops below a 2.5 by the end of the month, the athletic board benches me for the rest of the season. I need a tutor. And I want it to be you."

Avery was breathtaking in a long, flowing gown of ivory silk, tailored with delicate platinum embroidery along the sleeves and neckline that caught the brilliant afternoon sun. At her throat, the liquid silver pendant of Aethelgard rested flush against her collarbone, its translucent crystal casting a soft, serene luminescence across her features. She carried no weapon and wore no heavy armor; her sovereign authority was absolute, grounded in her intellect, her grace, and her untamed lineage.Beside her, Jake stood as an imposing, monolithic pillar of strength in his formal High Alpha dark uniform. His broad shoulders were squared, his dark coat adorned with the crests of the unified sectors, and his golden eyes burned with an intense, untamed pride as his large hand remained firmly locked with Avery’s in front of the entire nation.Avery stepped up to the central glass podium, looking out over the sea of faces—Alphas, baselines, scholars, and former soldiers standing side by side in

The first golden rays of the morning sun crested the dark ridge of the eastern mountains, spilling a warm, liquid amber light across the quiet forest basin. It painted the timber and stone walls of the hillside estate in deep shades of gold and bronze. Below, the river valley sparkled like a winding ribbon of crushed diamonds, while the morning air carried the fresh, sweet scents of blooming lavender, wild pine, and crisp mountain dew.Inside the quiet sanctuary of the master suite, time felt completely suspended.Avery lay resting against Jake’s massive chest, the soft linen sheets draped loosely over them. The High Alpha’s heavy arm was wrapped securely around her waist, his large, calloused hand gently caressing her side in a slow, rhythmic pattern that echoed the peaceful beating of his heart. His breathing was deep and calm, the powerful thrumming beneath her cheek serving as a steady, reassuring rhythm that had long since become the anchor of her entire world.Avery shifted slig

Leo had returned from the Western Basin for a two-week visit, accompanied by senior envoys and regional liaisons from the outer territories. The Regional Peacekeeping Academy he had established three years ago was now producing hundreds of fair, highly trained baseline and Alpha officers who maintained order across the outer fringes without subjugation or force. The wide dining hall was filled with bright amber light as Leo stood up at the head of the long oak table, raising a heavy glass of aged northern wine. His face was tanned from his travels, his brown eyes bright, and his posture carried the quiet confidence of a true leader. "To three years of real, unbroken peace," Leo announced, his voice ringing warmly off the high timber beams of the ceiling. "And to the two people who had the courage to tear down an empire to give us all a home." Every guest around the table raised their glasses, joining in a thunderous, heartfelt toast that echoed out onto the moonlit terrace. Ave

Three full years had passed since the final granite stones were laid along the eastern ridge, and the landscape of the entire continent had bloomed into an era of unprecedented prosperity, intellectual renaissance, and lasting harmony. The ancient territorial borders that had once been heavily fortified with concrete barricades, iron checkpoints, and mercenary staging grounds were now vibrant, open corridors of commerce, agricultural trade, and academic exchange. The central university district, once a rigid institution reserved exclusively for elite high-strain bloodlines, had evolved into the continent’s primary epicenter of scientific innovation and philosophical progress. Here, high-strain Alphas and baseline scholars conducted joint research without a single legal restriction, submissive quota, or class barrier. The oppressive doctrines of the past regime were no longer just abolished—they were completely forgotten, replaced by a shared mandate of equality. At the heart of t

They gathered around the heavy oak dining table as the sun began its slow descent below the mountain peaks, casting long, violet shadows across the valley floor. "The baseline integration program reached its full quota this week," Leo reported, taking a sip of his wine as he looked at Avery with deep pride. "Over two hundred scholars and specialists from the outer fringes have officially received their university tenure and central residence permits. No pack mandates, no submissive quotas, and no class restrictions." "The old regime's laws are officially erased," Avery said softly, her thumb tracing the rim of her glass. "The continent is finally moving forward." Leo paused, setting his glass down as his expression turned thoughtful and deeply resolute. He looked at both of them, his voice carrying a quiet, mature weight. "Which brings me to my news," Leo said with a small, proud smile. "I've accepted the position as Chief Director of the Regional Peacekeeping Academy in the

Six months had passed since the final foundation stones were laid along the eastern ridge, and the landscape had transformed into a vision of serene, lasting beauty. The spacious timber and granite estate now stood proudly amidst the oak grove, its wide glass windows reflecting the soft golden rays of the late afternoon sun. The air was fresh and invigorating, scented with wild pine, blooming lavender from the newly planted gardens, and the crisp breeze blowing off the valley river. Gone were the high concrete barricades, the barbed wire perimeters, and the sterile tactical staging grounds that had defined Jake’s past. In their place stood a real home—a place built not for war or survival, but for living. Inside the spacious ground-floor living area, the atmosphere was warm and filled with rich, domestic comfort. Polished hardwood floors stretched underfoot, soft wool rugs cushioned the seating area around a grand stone fireplace, and heavy oak bookshelves lined the walls, filled
