POV: Lyra Ashbourne

Cassian told me about the journey over breakfast.

“We leave for the neighboring territory tomorrow morning,” he said, setting his cup aside. “I want you to accompany me.”

I looked up from Orion, who was resting in my arms. “Why?”

“Alpha Ronan has requested a meeting. There are matters concerning our borders that need to be discussed, and I think it’s time you met him.”

I hesitated. “Does he know about Orion?”

“He knows I’m bringing my family.”

The word made me glance

POV: Lyra Ashbourne I barely slept that night because every time I closed my eyes, Rowan’s words came back to me. The baby was the hidden child, but there was another part of his story that I could not stop thinking about. The woman had asked his teacher to remember a name.My name.Lyra.For years, I had believed my life began with the memories I could actually recall. My mother, my father, Selene, the Ashbourne territory, and the quiet years before everything fell apart. Now I was beginning to understand that things had been happening around me long before I was old enough to notice them, things my family had never told me.By morning, I had made up my mind. I needed to see Rowan again.I found him in the healer’s room, sorting through several old bottles. He looked up as I entered, studying my face for a moment.“You didn’t sleep.”It wasn’t a question.“Neither did you.”A faint smile touched his face before disappearing.“I was expecting you.”I closed the door behind me.“You s

  • The Alpha’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 50

POV: Lyra Ashbourne The mark pulsed again, and this time the entire room seemed to react. The candle beside the window flickered violently, while a faint vibration travelled through the wooden floor beneath my feet. Orion’s hand was still raised toward the wall, his attention fixed on something I could not understand. I moved before I had time to think. I pulled him from the cradle and held him tightly against my chest, and the moment I did, the strange light disappeared. The vibration beneath the floor stopped, leaving the room so quiet that I could hear my own breathing. I looked back at the wall. The mark was still there, but it had returned to the dull, ancient shape I had seen before. Cassian hadn’t moved. His eyes remained fixed on the wall, and the expression on his face made it clear that whatever he had feared before had just become more real. “What was that?” I asked. He finally looked at me. “We need to leave.” “Why?” “Now.” There was something in his voice th

  • The Alpha’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 49- Council divides

POV: Lyra Ashbourne By the following evening, I knew something had changed. No one had told me anything directly, which was part of what made the atmosphere around the territory so unsettling. People became quieter whenever I entered a room, conversations ended when I walked past, and even the guards seemed more alert than they had been before. I noticed it most when I carried Orion into the main hall and saw two elders speaking near the council chamber. Their voices dropped almost immediately when they noticed me. I kept walking. I had learned by then not to question every strange look or every conversation that stopped when I appeared. Still, this felt different from the secrecy surrounding the old records. Something was happening now, and I had a feeling it had something to do with my son. Orion had been unusually calm throughout the day, sleeping more than usual and spending his waking moments watching things around him that I could not see. Earlier that afternoon, he

  • The Alpha’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 48- Cassian curiosity

POV: Lyra Ashbourne The next morning, I woke with the same thought that had followed me to sleep. The missing pages.Someone had removed them by order of the council, and whoever had given that order had clearly wanted part of the Ashbourne history buried. The more I learned, the more questions I had, and somehow, no matter how far I tried to follow the clues, they always seemed to lead back to Orion. When I went to his cradle, I found him already awake, lying on his back with his legs moving beneath the blanket as he stared at the ceiling. The moment he noticed me, his eyes followed me across the room.“Good morning,” I whispered.I picked him up and held him against my chest, trying to push everything I had learned out of my mind. For a while, I managed to do exactly that. I carried him downstairs and settled near the windows while he played with the edge of my sleeve, completely unaware of the questions surrounding him.Sometimes I envied how easily he could exist without knowing

  • The Alpha’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 47- Missing pages??

POV: Lyra Ashbourne I didn’t go back to my room immediately. After leaving the old storage room, I walked through the eastern corridor without really knowing where I was going. Cassian’s words followed me, but the argument itself was not what bothered me most. I kept thinking about the look on his face when he saw the document, the brief change in his expression before he managed to hide it.He had recognized it.There was no doubt about that now, and if he already knew something about those records, then there had to be a reason he had never told me.Instead of returning to my room, I found myself heading back toward the archives. The elderly archivist looked up as I entered, and her expression changed almost immediately.“You found something.”It was not a question.I walked toward her desk and nodded. “I found an Ashbourne record in the eastern storage room.”She became still.“That room was supposed to remain sealed.”“It wasn’t.”She lowered her eyes for a moment before asking,

  • The Alpha’s Hidden Heir   Chapter 46- Cassian is still suspicious

POV: Lyra Ashbourne I could not stop thinking about what I had found in the archives, and even after I returned to my room, the words from those old records continued to circle through my mind. I had read the same sentence so many times that I could almost picture the faded handwriting whenever I closed my eyes.A child born from the ancient bloodline will carry what was lost.I wanted to believe it had nothing to do with Orion. There had probably been many children born into ancient bloodlines throughout history, and the records were old enough that whatever they described could have happened generations before I was even born. There was no reason to assume they were talking about my son, and yet I could not completely dismiss the possibility.Orion stirred in his cradle, pulling me away from my thoughts, and when I walked over to him, he opened his eyes and reached for me. I picked him up and held him against my chest, allowing myself to focus on the familiar comfort of having him
