No, Damien

Hazel

I couldn't remove my gaze away from the stranger, I kept wondering how my father must have known such a powerful wolf and what must have transpired between them that made my father so determined to make me his hired mate.

The stranger who had noticed the stares I gave him did nothing but push his focus on the road, From the little display he had pulled off, I knew that he didn't like me probably because I was an Omega and looked weak to him.

That was one of the attributes of most powerful wolves, weak wolves like me tend to irk them but whoever this Damien was, personally asked for me.

" Are you the wolf I would work for? " I broke the awkward silence.

The stranger chuckled. A lot of words could be derived from that chuckle, he seemed he can never have an Omega as a mate even if it was just for pretense. Being smart enough, I kept my mouth shut and averted my gaze to the road. After a long while of awkward silence, the nonchalant stranger finally opened his mouth.

" No, Damien! ".

I became confused about what he had so I gave him a questioning look.

" You will work for my master, Damien, " he said.

I breathed a sigh of relief, I had already panicked inwardly as the thought of staying in the same house with this stranger scared the hell out of me but when I heard what he had said, my mind came to rest.

With nothing left to say, none of us said anything to each other until we got to Damien's mansion.

I was awed when I saw the beautiful sight that beholds me. I didn't care if I embarrassed myself as I shamelessly drawled. This got me thinking, how come he doesn't have a mate or was it that he didn't bother looking for one? because, from the look of things, there was not a wolf out there that would reject him when she sees his financial capability.

" Are you going to keep staring at it or you would come inside?". The stranger's words snapped me out of my fantasy but not without him giving me one of his cold stares.

" Yes ". With hurried speed, he led me to the entrance of the building. Nervousness started kicking in as many thoughts came rushing, I remembered the stranger calling Damien, his master. It would only make sense if a wolf had the same attributes as his superior.

The stranger glanced at me one more time before he opened the door to enter but my feet found it difficult to move. Why now, why did the feeling of fear engulf me when I stepped foot on Damien's property, why did I have the feeling that whoever was behind the door was very dangerous? Those were the questions I kept asking myself but couldn't have an answer to.

" Where's she? ". I heard the most intimidating voice.

" She's here! " The stranger responded.

Only I knew how threatening his gaze was when he came back to the door. He forcefully took my hand and dragged me inside the building.

Awed by what I saw, I gasped, forgetting there were two wolves present.

The mansion's interior was not different from the exterior based on how classy and expensive it looked but there was one thing that was weird in the whole setting. It seemed like Damien didn't like sight as the windows were covered in thick red curtains, and the only source of light was the electric bulbs. It also lacked liveliness and color. It was like a place where a funeral was being held but at least it was better than my house.

" You must be Greg's daughter? ". Damien, who had his head covered with a hood, snapped me out of my thoughts.

" Yes! ". For the first time since I got to the living room, I averted my gaze to Damien who also had not spared me a glance. I creased my eyebrow at how weirdly dressed Damien was. He wore black trousers and a black jacket with a hood that was big enough to cover his whole face thereby making it difficult for me to see his face.

" Come sit with me ! " he gestured for me to sit close to him as he tapped on a space close to him. I hesitated but with one stare from the stranger, I ran to Damien.

" You know why you are here, right? ". Damien said. Even at a much closer distance, I still couldn't see his face but chose not to think much about it.

" Yes, I am here to pose as your mate, " I blurted out.

" Good, I will tell you more about it but in the meantime, Joseph is going to show you your room, "

' So his name is Joseph ' I thought.

In the next second, he stood and left but still not showing me his face which made me think if he was hiding his face on purpose.

I liked how things had gone so far, I had expected an aggressive wolf just like the stranger but from the way he had gently spoken to me, I was made to believe that I was wrong, or was it just an act? I couldn't believe that Damien was a stronger wolf than Joseph, who wouldn't stop giving me deadly stares even when I sat close to Damien.

" Come! " He said and left without waiting for me, which I immediately followed.

" Here's your room " he coldly said stopped at a black door which was opposite a fancy-looking door that without being told, one would be able to figure out that it was the master's bedroom, Damien's room.

" Take your bath, Damien would be expecting you to join him for breakfast ". Without saying anything more, he left her at the entrance of the room.

I sighed, if someone had told me a few days that I would be in the house of a stranger as a hired mate, then I would have thought that the person was out of his senses but on the other side, I was an omega and shouldn't be surprised if I was assumed easy to manipulate.

This was one of the reasons why I thought being Gabriel's mate was the best idea as we were both Omegas which meant none of us would feel inferior to the other.

Immediately I opened the door, I rushed to the bed and threw myself as I entally prepared myself for future outcomes.

" At least I won't be here for that long " I tried to console myself. After staring blankly at the ceiling for a long while, I unknowingly fell asleep without knowing that a pair of angry eyes fired daggers at me.
