Elena's POV.
I couldn't bring myself to believe how Rex had tracked me down. I felt my world pause for a while as all I could recall at that very point was how he had ordered me to leave his pack for good. I felt this hurting pain in my chest as I looked at how he crouched to their level. "Does he know those are his children?" I mumbled within as his gaze was still locked to mine. It was obvious. They had this striking resemblance with him. I groaned even more as I looked at him. All the screams, the laughter of children and the conversations of adults all turned to some low pitched, unclear sound. All my ears could process were the voices in my head. And I could still hear his voice so clear in my head when he had asked me to leave his pack for good. I could still hear the voice of Maya as well. And now, seeing him reopened the old wound I struggled to move over from. "Elena?" Marie called out to me again as she shook me lightly, bringing me back to reality. "Are you alright?" She asked me. How would I be alright when the last person I ever expected to see after all these years was now right back into my life and he was playing with my two kids, Kanu and Kiana. "Mummy?" Kanu screamed happily as he looked at me. "That's our mummy!" He answered Rex who now turned again as he looked at me. "Was he here to take them away from me? Why exactly is he back? What does he want from me?" Different questions popped up. I walked up to where they stood talking to Rex. "It's time to go home, babies!" I feigned a smile at him as I turned to look at them. I looked at Marie who still stood in bewilderment as she watched how I got disorganized the very moment I saw them with the strange man. It was another difficult one to explain the real story now. I had lied about the father of my little angels. He was a past I wished to forget and never for once did I think of having my entire life swept off the ground completely again by the man who I grew to hate. "It's time to go home. Say bye!" I forced a smile now, the breeze blowing and pushing my hair to my face and Rex looking right into my eyes. If he was here for my little angels, then there was absolutely no way I was going to let him take them from me. I scowled within as he waved them goodbye as I carried them away back to where Marie stood, confused and trying to take in everything happening right that moment. "What was that for, Elena?" She asked as we drove back home in a cab. "Mummy, are you okay?" Kanu asked as he looked at me, pouting out his lips as he played with his fingers. "Yes I am, baby!" I responded as I pulled both him and Kiana to my body, kissing their forehead multiple times before paying attention to Marie who was already tired of getting snubbed by me. "Who…" "It's nothing serious. He reminded me of someone from my past. I'm totally fine, Marie." I answered with a smile on my face as I stretched out my right hand as I wrapped her left hand lightly. She forced a smile as she looked away. I knew she wasn't done yet but then, she knew I probably wouldn't say much because the kids were with us. We arrived home a few minutes later and she left for her apartment as I walked down to my apartment and Kanu and Kiana couldn't just stop picking at each other as they argued about the strange man who had spoken with them at the park earlier. "Mummy?" Kanu called out to me as he looked at me. "The man gave us some chocolates." He confessed as he brought out the 3 wraps of chocolates from his pocket as he raised them up, giggling as well and giving me those baby doll eyes. That was a way of them making me do what I naturally wouldn't want to do. "Kiana?" I frowned at her as I finally understood what their long argument was for. I scrunched to their height as I looked at both of them. "What did mummy tell you about strangers?" I asked them. "Never to take things from strangers." They chorused in a low voice as they looked at me. "And what happens if you take things from strangers?" I asked again, looking at how they tilted their lips now with those pulpy eyes. "Show mummy first!!" They chorused again as they maintained eye contact with me. "Good. Very good. Now, give mummy a warm hug!" I opened my arms as they rushed in for a hug, giggling as I wrapped them up in my arms tightly and printed kisses all over their faces. "And what is your new friend's name?" I couldn't stop myself from asking as I let go of them. "Uhmm…" Kiana shrugged as she was trying to recall his name. "Rex. Rex." Kanu responded as he giggled. I knew why he was giggling. He felt happy remembering Rex's name before Kiana. She rolled her eyes as she opened one of the chocolate as she pushed it inside her mouth. "And what else did he say to you?" I asked, looking at Kanu this time around. "That he was going to come pay us a visit someday." Kanu replied as he looked at me. "And you both are friends!!" Kiana cuts in with a grin as she looked at Kanu now. "Friends?" "Come around someday?" My heart skipped as I heard those words. "Why is he here in Kingston? And what is he up to?" I winced as I stood upright.Elena's POV The early morning light filtered through the pack house windows and casted a golden glow over the kitchen, while I busied myself with preparing breakfast. It was a calm morning, but I could feel tension in the air. While the battle went on yesterday, Alphonso got captured and what was going to be done with him hadn't been decided yet, but whatever decision was going to be taken will define the pack's future.I stood by the counter, stirring a pot of oatmeal while Kanu and Kiana bickered playfully over the cereal I had given them earlier. Something about their laughter and noise felt comforting and reminded me of the simple life that we almost lost. It was hard to imagine that we managed to pull through, but as I glanced at the family photo, the realisation that we had survived set in.Then, Rex walked in, looking as if he had just woken up, his dark hair a bit ruffled. "It sure smells good in here," he said groggily.I smiled at him. "I'm preparing breakfast obviously, bu
Elena's POV The energy was electric in the pack house. Wolves in human and shifted forms moved around the courtyard with their voices conveying relief and celebration. Despite the tension everyone felt from the battle we endured, everyone felt hopeful and personally, I can't remember the last time I felt that way.Standing near the edge of the crowd while watching as pack members approached Rex to congratulate him, I noticed that he moved slowly as a result of his injuries but his presence was still as commanding as ever. He cemented his role as a leader with each nod of his head and each word he exchanged with them. "Are you okay?" A voice said from my side, breaking me out of my thoughts. Turning sideways, I see that it's Logan."I think so," I replied, my gaze shifting back to Rex."You give off this feeling of someone that's getting ready to run." Logan said with a mischievous smile, though his tone was gentle. That caused a short laugh to escape my lips, "it's just a lot. All o
Elena's POVI woke up to the morning light filtering through the blinds of the hospital room with its soft rays washing over Rex's face. He was still asleep with his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. Despite how pale he looked with the bandages wrapped around his chest, he looked like a warrior at rest after fighting a long battle.Leaning back against the chair by his bed with my body still aching from dozing off in an uncomfortable position with my hands still resting on his, unwilling to let go I closed my eyes slightly but the image of Logan walking towards me with some of Rex's blood on his body replayed in my head. The door opened behind me and I turned to see Logan walk in with clean clothes and a smile on his face while carrying two cups of coffee. He smiled at me softly as he approached before placing one of the cups on the small table beside me. "I thought you would need this," he said as he sat down on the other side of Rex's bed."Thanks," I replied gratefully
Elena's POV I was in a room, praying that the battle goes in like favour when a wolf rushed in agitation."What's going on in the battlefield?" I asked hurriedly."We were able to defeat Kingsley but..". "But what?!" I asked impatiently."The Alpha was wounded in battle and is being rushed to the hospital right now." As I heard that, I felt dread overcome me and without a second thought, I grabbed my keys."Marie!" I called out, my voice shaking. "Watch the kids for me. I have to go."Maria frowned in concern, "Elena, hold on!"But I was already out the door, my heart pounding as I drove towards the hospital. The drive to the hospital was a blur with my mind focused on getting to the hospital as fast as I could. The sounds of the radio faded into the background as my thoughts consumed me with the words of the wolf being played over and over again in my mind."What if he doesn't make it?"The very thought of that happening struck me hard at my chest like a punch. I had spent so much
Elena's pov"What if you don't have to?" Alicia asked, "you don't really have to go back to how things were between you two and honestly, I don't think it's a good idea since things were pretty toxic between you two.""That is true." I said with a gentle nod of my head. "So I suggest that you both build something new." She replied.Hearing that, it was as if a door opened up in my mind as I began to seriously consider her opinion. The following morning, the Pack gathered at an open field which was the site of the meeting with every wolf on high alert.Standing before us was Rex with his commanding presence as he addressed the crowd. "Today we are here to fight for the future of our packs. Kingsley and Alphonso have both been controlling us for so long using just fear and manipulation and it's time to put an end to it."In response, everyone cheered in approval with some of them howling. I stood at the edge of the gathering with the women and children while looking for signs of troubl
Elena's POV I, my twins, Marie and Alicia had moved to Rex's pack away from New Kingston. He had figured out that if we remained in New Kingston we'd be easily attacked by Kingsley and his cohorts. His mother was so filled with joy to see us finally return to the pack.Standing at the edge of Rex's pack grounds, I felt the cool air against my skin. All around me were werewolves shifting into their forms and patrolling the perimeter with their scouts running back and forth with one update after the other. Turning sideways, my eyes rested on Rex who was barking orders with authority which was expected since he was an Alpha and knew the weight of his responsibilities.Anyone else standing on the spot I stood would have felt nervous or utterly terrified but I felt oddly calm. I knew what was happening right now wasn't just about survival anymore but about standing for something and protecting the people that matter the most.As I busied myself with my thoughts, a voice broke me out of it
