The eerie silence hanging over the rune-covered ritual grounds grew heavier with every spark the torches sent into the night. With each step I took toward the center of the circle, I felt the earth tremble faintly beneath my feet as the ancient energy inside the runes began to awaken.

Behind me, the tense breathing of my friends remained like a weight against my back, their figures frozen at the edge of the clearing like shadows carved into place.

Beta Zane stood just outside the circle with his hands clasped behind him. His expression was as stern and uncompromising as ever when he looked directly into my eyes.

The council members, Alpha Ronan, Luna Sierra, and the pack members who had gathered to watch surrounded the area as Zane finally began explaining the details of the trial they had kept secret.

"The Spiritual Trial will consist of two stages," Zane said. His voice cut through the cold night air like a blade.

"We are no longer testing only your physical strength or your tolerance for pain. For a wolf to be accepted into a pack, their mind and spirit must also become part of the whole."

His gaze moved across the crowd.

"Wolves are connected through the pack bond. Under normal circumstances, that connection is little more than a quiet whisper. But in extreme moments—when emotions become too intense to contain—the entire pack can share those feelings and that pain through a collective consciousness."

Then his eyes returned to me.

"Bloom, your hybrid mind is currently sealed off from the outside world. Wild. Defensive. Untamed." His voice grew heavier.

"During the first stage, under the guidance of Luna Sierra and Beta Nova, you will open your mind to the pack's collective consciousness through an illusion." He paused.

"This stage is called the Mental Labyrinth." The seriousness in Zane's expression deepened.

"It is both difficult and dangerous." The clearing went completely still.

"The moment your mind opens to that shared consciousness, the most extreme emotions ever experienced by hundreds of wolves in this pack—their pain, rage, hunting memories, and thoughts—will pour into you like an avalanche."

His eyes sharpened.

"If you fail to preserve your own will, if you become lost inside that mental current and the labyrinth it creates, you may lose yourself completely."

A chill moved through the crowd.

"The result could be madness. Or your mind could sink so deeply into darkness that your body never wakes again."

His voice dropped. "You must accept the pack bond without allowing it to erase who you are."

My chest tightened when he finished. But I didn't step back. I moved into the exact center of the circle, where the enormous runes carved into the earth intersected.

Luna Sierra and Beta Nova stood across from me. I fixed my eyes on them. They closed theirs at the same time.

Low, rhythmic chants in an ancient language began spilling from their lips. The runes beneath me slowly lit with the pale glow of moonlight. The torches dimmed as the eerie radiance spread across the ground. Thick incense smoke rose around me, sharp with mint and moss and threaded with something unmistakably magical.

It coiled around my body. With every turn, the outside world faded. The forest disappeared. The torches vanished. The Mental Labyrinth had begun.

Under Luna and Nova's guidance, the doors of my mind—doors that had always remained sealed, wild, and hostile to the outside world—were forced open. The walls I'd built to protect myself began to crack beneath the combined force of the runes and incense.

This wasn't simple mind reading. It wasn't an ordinary telepathic bridge. It was a vast reservoir containing every raw, primal emotion the pack had ever shared during the moments when they had lost control.

And I had been dropped directly into its center. Then the door opened completely. An avalanche crashed into my mind. The darkest, most violent memories of hundreds of wolves slammed against the walls of my consciousness in a single instant.

Predatory screams tore through my skull. I felt the blinding rage of blood spilling across a battlefield. The pure hatred of a wolf clawing through the earth surged through my veins. Then came the grief of an ancient wolf who had lost his mate.

A howl that seemed powerful enough to tear the sky apart ripped through my soul.

The pain was so deep and bottomless that I couldn't breathe. It felt as though my own chest had been split open. Before I could recover, the savage hunger of a pack chasing helpless prey beneath a full moon swallowed me.

I felt the moment they tore it apart. Their hysterical, blood-soaked cries of victory exploded inside my head. Hundreds of minds. Hundreds of emotions. Each dragged me deeper into its own labyrinth.

They slammed me against invisible walls, trying to tear me apart piece by piece.

I felt myself beginning to forget my own name.

Who I was.

The avalanche was burying me. Somewhere far away, I could sense my body trembling violently at the center of the circle. My knees began to give out.

Warm blood slid from my nose and reached my lips. The metallic taste filled my mouth. Then I heard Axel.

A savage, maddened howl that seemed to rip through the ritual itself. He wanted to destroy the boundaries. Shatter the circle. Drag me out of that hell.

"You can't, Cassian!" Kai shouted. His voice was nearly lost beneath the magical hum surrounding the ritual.

"If you interfere, we'll lose her completely!" Inside the Mental Labyrinth, I was disappearing beneath the pain of hundreds of wolves. Darkness closed around me.

Then, from the deepest part of my mind, I heard a voice from the night before. Cassian's voice. Dark. Worried. But filled with faith.

When you enter that circle tomorrow, hold on to one thing. Your own will. Don't open the doors of your mind to anyone. Not even me.

The words became a lighthouse inside the wreckage of my thoughts. I refused to disappear beneath that avalanche.

I wasn't only a hybrid. I was Bloom.

The woman who had survived alone.

The woman who had fought through every wound with her own hands.

I reached for the wild, unbreakable strength inside me—the will sharpened by years of loneliness and anger. I didn't reject the pack bond. I didn't waste my strength trying to deny the hundreds of minds surrounding me.

I accepted their existence. I allowed the current to move through me instead of fighting every wave. But I refused to let those emotions consume my identity. Among the blood, the screams, and the savage memories, I rebuilt the walls of my mind one by one.

Dark. Immovable. Impenetrable. I felt the pain of every wolf. But I didn't make it mine. I held onto my name. My identity. My will.

And by doing so, I found harmony with the vast pack consciousness without losing myself inside it. I found the exit from the labyrinth through my own strength.

The moment the first stage ended, Luna Sierra and Beta Nova opened their eyes at the same time and drew in deep breaths. Shock and disbelief were written clearly across both their faces.

I had endured the devastating mental avalanche without losing myself. I had remained standing behind a shield built entirely from my own will. The glowing cocoon of illusion surrounding me slowly dissolved along with the incense smoke.

When I opened my eyes, the runes had gone dark. The exhaustion in my mind became a physical weight. My knees hit the ground before I could stop them.

My head dropped forward, and blood from my nose fell onto the soil. But when I lifted my gaze again, my eyes were still sharp. Still defiant.

Beta Zane swallowed, trying to hide his surprise and approval behind his professional mask. His voice shook slightly, though he maintained his usual cold tone.

"The first stage is complete." His gaze remained fixed on me.

"Bloom preserved her own will and successfully adapted to the pack consciousness."

The instant the words left his mouth, Ivy, Cassian, and Kai stopped caring about the rules. They ran straight into the circle. Cassian reached me first. He wrapped his powerful arms around me and pulled me against his chest so tightly that I thought my bones might crack.

A second later, Ivy and Kai joined us. The four of us held onto each other in the center of the eerie ritual grounds until we felt like one body.

Cassian's heart pounded wildly against me. I could feel Axel's relieved growl inside him. I had won the first round. But the trial wasn't over yet.

I froze. Completely. His lips weren't just kissing me. They were claiming me. Like he was drawing a line no one else was allowed to cross. Like he had something to prove. And all I could do... was kiss him back. His hand slid up to the back of my neck, tilting my head exactly where he wanted it. This wasn't a fake kiss. It was hard, deep, and utterly possessive. The scorching heat of his mouth, the firm sweep of his tongue, the raw hunger radiating from his wolf sent shivers racing through every inch of my body. My knees threatened to give out, and Cassian immediately tightened his grip around my waist, pulling me flush against him to keep me standing. Right in front of Dominic. Without breaking eye contact with him for a second. He was declaring, for everyone to see, that I belonged to him. My breath caught, and he took full advantage of it, deepening the kiss until I couldn't tell where he ended and I began. A quiet sound escaped my lips and disappeared into his mouth, an

The suffocating silence inside the car finally came to an end as we pulled into the school parking lot. When Cassian killed the engine, I felt those sharp blue eyes land on me one last time through the rearview mirror. The tension from the kitchen still lingered between us. His thumb brushing my collarbone. The dangerous conversation we'd had standing inches apart. And one particular sentence that refused to leave my mind. "If the situation calls for it... kissing." I opened my door and stepped out. The cool morning air hit my face, and I took a deep breath. The relief lasted all of three seconds. Cassian rounded the front of the car. Before I could even process what he was doing, his long, warm fingers wrapped firmly around my waist. He pulled me against him with such effortless possession that my back collided with his chest. I turned toward him in complete surprise. He answered with that infuriating Alpha smirk. The one that always said he was in control. His hand remained

When I opened my eyes, the first rays of morning light filtering through the exposed wooden beams overhead stung my eyes. The old house hidden deep within the forest still held onto the suffocating silence of the night.Slowly, I turned toward the other side of the bed. Cassian was still asleep.I remembered the ache that had settled inside me when I'd built that invisible—but impossible to cross—wall between us before turning my back on him last night. But now...The fierce, untouchable Alpha heir lay completely defenseless on the opposite side of the bed. His dark hair was scattered across the pillow. Even the permanent crease between his brows had finally relaxed.I took a slow breath as I carefully sat up. Without bothering to change out of my thin camisole and shorts, I quietly slipped out of bed. We weren't at the pack house anymore. There was no reason to dress differently. As I passed the mirror, my reflection caught my eye. How was I supposed to protect my own heart during th

The heavy thud of the front door echoed through the mold-scented walls of the old house before fading into silence. As the lock clicked into place, it felt like we'd severed our last connection to the outside world right there on the threshold. The performance. The school. Ending things with Fiona in front of everyone. The spectacle we'd put on for the entire pack. The weight of it all settled onto my shoulders at once. But I didn't have the luxury of thinking about any of that. Standing in front of me, her back pressed against the door beneath the dim light of the hallway, was a little fox whose chest was rising and falling just a little too quickly. This wasn't the same woman who had wrapped her arms around me in front of the pack only minutes ago. The same woman who had smiled so sweetly and said, "I was wondering how much longer you planned to make me wait."That mask disappeared the second we stepped inside. The green fire blazing in her eyes melted the cold air filling the hallw

The thread inside my head had been hammering against my temples like a poisoned needle since last night. Bloom standing against the cold glass of her window, looking straight into my eyes as she accused me of being nothing more than an ordinary man ruled by primitive wolf instincts, had sent Axel into a violent rage behind my ribs.I hadn't been able to tell her the truth. I hadn't been able to explain that the damned arrangement with Fiona had only ever been a cover. All I'd told Bloom was that Fiona had been a shield. But today, everything was going to change. Alpha Ronan's dangerous plan to use Bloom as bait had Axel growling with dark satisfaction deep inside me. Fake or not, the little fox would finally be mine.Under the same roof. Far away from the pack. We all left the pack house together that morning and drove to school, but the atmosphere inside the car felt heavier than last night's battle.Bloom stared out the window, trying to understand the newly awakened pack bonds insi

The ancient cellar seemed to freeze the moment those words left Alpha Ronan's mouth. The blood of the First Line. For centuries, it had been nothing more than a legend. A faded story carved into the runes that lined forgotten walls. And now...It was lying right in front of me. On the parchment beneath my hands. In my veins. The shock on everyone's faces slowly transformed into something much darker. Calculation."Everything you've seen and heard in this room," Ronan thundered, his voice cracking through the underground chamber like a whip, "never leaves it."His gaze swept over each of us. "Not one word.""No one learns the truth about Bloom's blood."No one argued. No one even looked capable of speaking. Kai and Ivy were still staring at the parchment—at my family tree—as though their minds hadn't caught up with what they were seeing.Even after we returned upstairs to Alpha Ronan's large study, the suffocating silence followed us. I drifted toward one corner of the room. Kai leaned
