ANYA'S POV

Night fell over the mountain with the weight of a predator in no hurry. By ten o’clock, the north wind began to hammer against the windows as if it meant to tear them down, and a winter chill swept through the valley. The first strike came soon after: a sharp crack of thunder boomed across the roof, and every light went out at once. Only the orange glow of the fireplace remained, barely cutting through the dark.

The heating died with the power. For them — warm-blooded, with fur woven into their very bones — this cold was nothing. But for me, a human trapped within these stone walls, the air seeped in like icy needles, straight to the marrow.

I sat on the edge of the bed, wrapped in the thickest duvet I could find, shivering so hard my teeth chattered. I even imagined the blocker on my skin had frozen solid too.

Azkarion stood by the fire, shining a torch over a map. When he heard my frustrated whimper, he turned toward me.

"You’re freezing," he said, stepping slowly closer. In the dark, his grey eyes glowed in the firelight.

"I’m fine," I lied, pulling my knees to my chest, though my breath came in gasps that gave me away. "It’s just… the air up here."

"You are not fine, Anya. Your body was never built to take this without warmth," he replied, in that steady tone of his. Without another word, he slipped beneath the sheets and settled right beside me.

The heat rolling off him was immense, almost overwhelming — like curling up beside a living fire.

"What are you doing?" I asked, trying to shift away, though every inch I moved toward the edge felt as if I were stepping out into the open wind.

"Making sure my partner doesn’t freeze to death before the meeting," he said, low and calm. He slipped his arm around my back, and before I could protest, drew me tight against his chest.

I collided with his hard torso and caught my breath. He wrapped both arms around me, tugging the duvet up to cover us both, sealing us inside a warmth that filled every corner. I pressed close to him, his chin resting on my shoulder, and his scent — pine and storm — wrapped around me completely, driving every other thought from my mind.

"Azkarion… this wasn’t part of the deal," I whispered, though my body never hesitated: it curled into him, seeking shelter, as if it already knew this was where I belonged.

"Rules won’t save you if the temperature drops another few degrees, little liar," he murmured against my ear, his warm breath raising gooseflesh all over my skin. "Stay still and rest."

Only the crackle of burning logs and the wind whistling against the glass broke the silence. Slowly, the cold that had clamped around me faded, replaced by a deep, all-consuming heat that spread through every limb.

But being this close was a test of another kind. I felt his heart beat slow and strong against my back, the tension in his muscles, and his large, protective hand resting firm on my waist — a hold that felt like far more than just warding off the chill.

Minutes passed, or maybe hours. I thought he had fallen asleep, but his posture stayed taut: he was awake, watching over the dark.

"What are you thinking about?" I dared to ask, very softly.

He took a moment to answer. His hand shifted just enough, brushing lightly over my shirt, and the contact made my skin prickle.

"I’m thinking how easy it would be for me to destroy myself through you," he confessed, his voice rough and raw, so honest it left me frozen. "Everyone in my pack wants my place. Gideon wants my head. But you… you are the only one who has walked in here holding the power to hand me over to them all with one single word about who you really are. And yet here you stay, shivering in my bed, standing up for me before the elders."

I turned slowly in his arms until we were face to face. His grey eyes held mine, intense enough to steal the breath from my lungs. There was barely any space left between us.

"I will never betray you, Azkarion," I said, meeting his gaze with every ounce of truth I had. "I will keep my end of the bargain until the very last day."

He smiled, a smile touched with dark sorrow and a longing he had clearly carried for a very long time. His hand rose to my neck, cupping my face with a tenderness that clashed with his strength.

"That is the problem, Anya," he murmured, his lips brushing mine so lightly I trembled all over again. "The contract says you will leave when a year is up. But my wolf does not understand paper, or dates."

He tilted his head a little further, closing the last of the distance between us.

"If when all of this is over, you are still this close…" he whispered against my mouth, a promise that burned and chilled me all at once "…I will never let you go."

ANYA'S POVThe Great Hall had been completely transformed for the reception ahead of the Ancestral Council summit. Crystal chandeliers blazed over polished marble floors, and an orchestra played soft melodies that barely masked the tension hanging thick in the air. The elite of the shapeshifter world filled the room: alphas from other packs, diplomats, and high-ranking warriors. All were dressed in full regalia, yet in every gaze lurked the wild beast beneath.I walked beside Azkarion, feeling dozens of eyes tracking our every step. I wore a black velvet gown, cut low at the back with an elegant train that brushed the floor. I had applied an extra dose of the blocker to my neck and wrists to keep up the appearance of an omega she-wolf. Azkarion, in his immaculate tuxedo, kept his hand resting firmly on my hip — a clear signal to everyone that I was with him."Hold your head high, little liar," he whispered close to my ear, sending shivers down my spine. "Kaelen is approaching — Alpha

  • The Alpha’s Impostor Luna   Crack in the Armour

ANYA'S POVMy hands were still trembling long after Azkarion had left the gym for an urgent meeting with his captains. Where he had touched me, his warmth lingered on my skin, but the cool air of the room helped me regain a little control. I showered quickly, applied another full dose of the blocker, and dressed in a loose wool sweater and dark trousers.I needed a moment alone. Just one minute to remember who I was, and why I had walked straight into this den of wolves, risking my life.I stepped to the window overlooking the forest ravine. The sun was barely managing to pierce the thick mist clinging to the mountainside. Suddenly, the low buzz of my disposable phone — the only human thing I had managed to bring without anyone noticing — cut through the silence. The name flashing on the screen turned my blood to ice: Central Pack Hospital.I answered with clumsy fingers, instinctively stepping away from the door as I held it to my ear."Hello?" I whispered, my voice barely audible."

  • The Alpha’s Impostor Luna   Brushing Against the Skin

ANYA'S POVThe private gym in the north wing was unlike anything I had ever seen. It was spacious, with tall windows overlooking the cliff, and entirely lined with thick black leather mats. The air smelled of well-tended leather, cold metal, and above all, that sharp scent of pine and winter that always clung to Azkarion’s skin.It was six in the morning. I stood in the centre of the room, dressed in black training trousers and a t-shirt. Even though I had applied a full dose of the blocker after waking, being alone with him in such an enclosed space always pushed my nerves to their breaking point.Azkarion walked to the middle of the room, wearing only grey trousers and a sleeveless top that showed off his powerful arms and the scars that mapped his skin."A wolf does not fight like a human, Anya," he began, his rough voice cutting through the quiet. "We do not aim for points: we aim for the jugular. What you did last night against that drunk worked, but if Gideon or someone of his r

ANYA'S POVThe silence that followed Azkarion’s words was so thick it seemed to freeze the air. Gideon halted abruptly in the doorway: his yellow eyes blazed with held-back rage and the fear of taking one more step. Behind him, the four guards kept their hands resting on their weapons, yet none dared move forward. That pressure radiating from Azkarion was like an invisible wall, a clear warning: anyone foolish enough to provoke him would not leave alive. He held me pressed tight to his chest, shielding me almost entirely with his body. I could feel his heart hammering against my back and the heat rising from his skin. His hand on my waist did not loosen even a fraction: firm, possessive, completely in control. But what frightened me most was not the men at the door — it was what I knew: the blocker had worn off completely from the strain of the fight. My true scent began to fill the air, sweet and fragile, an aroma that among so many wolves was a death sentence."Your envoy?" Gideon r

  • The Alpha’s Impostor Luna   Trail of obsession

ANYA'S POVThe cold of the metal against my throat left me frozen, but the adrenaline that ran through me burned the fear before I could be paralyzed. The man had me cornered against the railing, pushing me with all his might, and his hot breath—which smelled of alcohol and raw meat—was pounding my ear."One cut, little wolf," he hissed in the darkness, resting the blade just above my wrist. If Alpha or pure bloodline blood comes out, I'll apologize to Gideon. But if you bleed like any ordinary human... I'll slit your throat right here before your male finds out.All the survival nonsense I had practiced alone for weeks came to mind. A wolf expected a human to stiffen or beg; a submissive wolf would submit. I couldn't do either.Instead of leaning back, I did just the opposite: I nailed the heel of my shoe with all my strength to the attacker's instep. He let out a muffled groan, and his grip faltered for a second: it was all I needed. I nudged her hard in the ribs and turned suddenly
