Scarlet

I stood by the door. It was as if my feet were glued to the ground. I couldn't move, and for a second or three, I stopped breathing. I knew how much I needed the job, but living in constant fear of not getting it was much worse.

Maybe the sight of the scary giant standing beside Roman added to it anyway. But something about the air felt heavy, as though pressing against my chest like it wanted to trap me there.

My eyes darted to the man again, and he cocked his eyebrow at me this time. I quickly looked away from him, in fear that he would say something and I would be too tongue-tied to give him an answer. I’d had a personal grudge against him ever since that night, and I didn’t even know his damn name.

In fact, being around Roman was enough to get hatred from me.

“You reek of another man, Little red,” Roman spat with disgust.

I looked down at my feet as though I was ashamed because of his words. I frowned once I gave it a second thought.
