LOGINAethelwulf POV
“How's the situation over there?” I asked over the phone as my driver kept driving.
“It's getting bad by the minute, twenty persons with the same bite,” he said over the line, and I rubbed my temple slightly. This is so bad; I hope the doctors don't get infected too.
“I'm close by,” I added, then hung up in the car. I continued doing my research with my tablet.
Last night was bliss. I have been celibate for over two years now, but then I don't understand why I gave in to the lady's request without a second thought, as though something pulled me to do that.
I shook my head lightly; this isn't the time to be thinking of the sex I had last night. Fair enough, it was bliss, but then it ends there; she should find her way back to wherever she's from.
“We're here,” my driver announced, and I looked up from my tablet immediately. I opened the car door and stepped down.
“Preston had really done a good job here,” I muttered as I walked towards the gate; the guards might recognize my scent, perhaps, and they opened the door without questioning.
I made my way to the main entrance, and Preston rushed towards me and gave me a really tight hug. “Ten fucking years!” He exclaimed as he broke the hug and hugged me again.
“I can't believe we survived this,” I added, then we laughed out; he finally shook my hand, and we walked to a sofa and sat down.
“Welcome home, Alpha Aethelwulf.” I turned sharply at that voice, Old Phoebe.
“Wow,” I exclaimed as I stood up and hugged her tightly.
“Phoebe, you're still alive,” I let out, and she smacked my shoulders.
“Of course I am,” she said. I pecked her hands, and she bowed slightly and stepped out.
“I'm so happy to have you back,” Preston said. I would rather not ruin his happiness just yet. I didn't come back to stay, but he can believe what he wants for now.
“So where's your Luna?” I asked, and a deep frown formed on his face, but it disappeared almost immediately.
“She's not yet back, but my fated mate is in,” he replied, and I raised an eyebrow.
“It's a long story,” he said with a sigh. I think this isn't the right time for that story right now.
“We can leave the catching up for now; let's go to the hospital,” I suggested, and he nodded and sprang up immediately.
“We also need to announce your arrival to the people this night,” he said, and I rolled my eyes; whatever he wants, I will prefer no one knows my identity, but then the entire elders and all.
Reaching the hospital, we were advised to put on nose masks and a nylon-like clothing to protect ourselves from the virus as we were helping out in the ward; over twenty more people were brought in, and up to ten persons died right in front of me.
We left the hospital to have a meeting with the pack priest. “The twin Alphas of the Moonlight Pack,” he called out as he walked into the waiting room and sat down.
“Aethelwulf, even though you've spent more than a decade in the human world, your aura and powers still radiate greatly on you; your strong Alpha presence still announces your name,” he added while staring deep into my eyes, and I returned the favor.
“Welcome home, the great Alpha of the Moonlight Pack.” He bowed in honor, and I bowed slightly in response to him.
“Zacon, what do you think is the solution to this pandemic that is slowly saturating our pack?” Preston asked, I can feel the bit of anger in his tone; my twin brother can never change.
I couldn't help smirking at his petty behavior that he can't even conceal. “The moon goddess has given your Luna a directive, and with the help of Aethelwulf's power, our land will be healed,” he announced, and I turned to look at Preston. I can only imagine what's going on in his mind right now.
“What do you mean by that?” He asked further with his eyebrows knitted together.
“It's time for my prayers, my Alpha; I must return to my chamber.” He said, then stood up, bowed at the both of us, and walked back into his chamber.
“Have you spoken to your Luna today?” I asked, and he nodded, still staring at the door Zacon walked into.
“She's a great healer, from the healer's clan, and has proven to be gifted by her ancestors,” he added as he stood up, and I followed suit.
“She should be back by now,” he said as we walked into the car and the driver drove off.
Growing up, it was difficult to tell that we were twins, especially for the fact that we have different features in everything down to our skin color. I'm dark-skinned, with black hair and blue eyes. I got that from my mom, though she wasn't dark-skinned, but she came from a Black American lineage. My twin brother, on the other hand, is light-skinned, has blonde hair just like my dad's, and has green eyes.
We look more like strangers than twins, but we are. Growing up, my parents seemed to favor my brother over me in every single thing. I accepted it; I learned to see it as normal, but the funny thing is how my brother still gets so jealous over my things even if he's smarter—well, better. He wanted everything I had.
Furthermore, we still grew loving each other amidst our imperfections, until the night we turned eighteen, the night that changed my fate, our fate, a bloody night that took my innocence, stained my hands with blood and darkened my life forever.
“Hey bro, we've arrived,” Preston called out from outside. I didn't even realize when he strode out of the car. I stepped down as well; darkness has already embraced the sky, and the moon stood in its glory, illuminating the earth. We walked into the mansion, and I saw two she-wolves dragging a silver arrow.
Preston ran towards them immediately, but before he could drag the silver arrow out of their hands, one of the ladies stabbed it into the other, and she fell unconscious on the tiled floor immediately.
“Tasha!” He called out as he lifted the lady up in his arms, as she was slowly shifting fully to her human form as her wolf couldn't bear the pain.
The other lady tried to run and I held her hand, and she looked up at me.
“What?” I muttered confusedly, the same lady from last night.
“I am your Luna; you have no right to stop me. Move!"
Aethelwulf POVWhy does this look more like a trap to me than an entrust? I shrugged my shoulders slowly, letting the thought settle but not fully trusting it, then closed my door behind me with a quiet click that echoed slightly in the silent room. I should have a good sleep first, tomorrow I will figure out if there is more to this. Something about the way Preston spoke, the timing, the urgency, it all sat wrong with me, like pieces of a puzzle that didn’t want to fit naturally. I walked back to my bed, dragged my polo off my body and threw myself onto it, landing with a loud thud that shook the mattress slightly under my weight. The room was dark, thick with silence, only the faint sound of the wind pressing against the windows breaking it slightly. Darkness covered my vision almost immediately as my body finally gave in to rest. But there was more to it this time, I wasn’t sleeping, or maybe my body was, but my mind wasn’t sinking properly into rest, my soul felt suspended somewh
Aethelwulf POVAn email popped up and I opened it immediately.“From the JK Group, the operation has begun, we need your presence.”This was exactly what I feared, being absent when the operation begins. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my thoughts, then went to my call log and dialed my PA’s number. It went through almost immediately.“Coordinate the operation, nothing should go wrong. They shouldn’t even notice my absence, is that clear?” I asked over the line, my voice firm and controlled, the kind that leaves no room for mistake or argument.“Yes sir,” he replied, and I ended the call immediately.I turned my head slowly toward the bed where Kiera was still lying. She looked peaceful in a strange way, like none of the chaos outside could reach her. Her chest rose and fell slowly, her face pale but calm, and for a moment I just stood there watching her without moving. Then I forced myself to look away and walked out of the room.I needed to monitor everything closely. If anyt
Preston’s POVThe club was lit as usual, from the outside I could feel the beat already, I opened a part of my car interior and picked up a mask and put it on, then handed over another mask to Cole, I wouldn’t want anyone to see the Alpha and his beta doing some dirty shit, you know, we should be good role models, fuck that crap.We stepped down from the car and headed into the club, loud music, dim blue and red lighting, so perfect for the night, it’s so good because you can’t even fathom the face of who you are with except you book a room. All the waiters here are just in G-string panties and no bras on, exactly how it should be, it isn’t called a strippers club for nothing, hitting asses in every direction, you can literally grab some boobs and have a good suck.“This place is good,” Cole said behind me and I smiled, not everyone knows about here, it’s far away, between the boundaries of my pack and another pack and with our consent it was brought to reality.“Enjoy yourself, man,”
Preston’s POVAethelwulf is really getting on my nerves, I honestly thought he would be all over me when he got here, at least show some level of respect or acknowledge the authority I hold here, but instead he’s doing the complete opposite and it’s getting under my skin more than I expected, how dare he stand against my words like they carry no weight, like I’m just another person in this pack and not the Alpha.I’m trying to stay calm, I really am, but it’s getting harder by the minute because if I let go of this control even for a second, I know myself well enough to admit I would have already given him a punch he wouldn’t forget anytime soon.“Babe."she called out the minute I stepped into the room, her voice soft but already demanding attention, and I rolled my eyes as I walked toward her, my steps slow and unwilling."You’re awake?” I asked as I sat beside her and bent to place a kiss on her forehead, a kiss that meant absolutely nothing to me, it was just there out of habit, no
Aethelwulf’s POV“Well, I think she should be hospitalized. My home isn’t a clinic, you know.”That statement snapped something sharp inside my head, like a thin thread stretched too tightly finally giving way. For a second, I just stared at him, trying to process the weight of what he had just said.“I didn’t quite get that statement… what did you just say?” I asked, my voice low and controlled, but carrying a dangerous edge beneath it.He took a deep breath, as if steadying himself for an argument he clearly intended to win.“We have a hospital in this pack for a reason, and you know that. If my subjects can be hospitalized, why can’t she be there too? It’s risky keeping her here. Our health is at risk as well, you know,” he said, taking a step forward, his tone firm and almost defensive.A slow smirk formed on my lips, not out of amusement, but disbelief. The kind that comes when someone says something so unreasonable, it almost feels unreal.“Bro… you need some rest,” I said, my v
Aethelwulf’s POV“Kiera!” I called out sharply as I grabbed her shoulders just before her back could hit the floor. Her body went limp in my arms, lighter than I expected, almost as if all strength had drained out of her in an instant. The woman who had been walking nearby rushed toward us, her face filled with confusion and alarm. She reached out, trying to support Kiera alongside me.“Don’t worry, I’ll take it from here,” I said, my voice firm and controlled. She paused, clearly unsure, her eyes flickering between my face and Kiera’s unconscious form.“I should probably call an ambulance, my Alpha,” she suggested, her tone cautious, almost hesitant.I shook my head immediately. If there was one thing I didn’t want at that moment, it was unnecessary attention. The last thing we needed was for news to spread like wildfire that the Luna had fainted in the hospital. Rumors in a pack could grow faster than truth, twisting into something far worse.“I said you can leave,” I repeated, more
Kiera’s POVIt’s been over four days of working hand in hand with Alpha Aethelwulf, and it has been unbearably awkward for me. For reasons I can’t even fully explain to myself, I find it impossible to look him in the face. To be completely honest, I go out of my way to maintain a certain distance b
Kiera's POV"Alpha Preston, I dare you to send me back there." I said while looking directly into his eyes. I could see the shock in his eyes."You seem to have grown wings." He said as he held my neck and kissed his mark while tightening his hold on my neck."Preston!" I screamed as he kept strang
Kiera's POVEverywhere was dark, very dark, but only the blood moon stood, giving light to the earth. Then voices of cries from women and kids filled the air, fire vapor evaporated to the sky, and sounds of paws and claws clashing saturated. In a war, the enemies seemed to be winning. I seemed to j
Aethelwulf POVIt's been three days of Kiera, Preston's Luna, staying in the dungeon. Tasha hasn't fully recuperated, and the priority is dying in multiples every single day, every time deaths are being recorded.
