LOGINKiera's POV
After the confrontation with Tasha, I didn't feel like going into the forest searching for the drugs anymore; I just wanted to go somewhere far, so far away from the pack, from everyone. He can't bring in a liability into my house and still need my help; perhaps I should let the virus get to him so he will know my importance.
Just then I saw two men covering their entire bodies with a transparent, nylon-like gown, a nose mask, and gloves. They carried a woman and a little girl child and laid them on a stretcher and pushed it towards the emergency hospital bus. My shoulders dropped instantly. One thing is sure: I am the Luna of the Moonlight Pack, and right now my people require me more than ever.
“Mind link, everyone, we're heading into the forest; come with your equipment.” I mind-linked my assistant Martha, then continued walking towards the forest. After thirty minutes, Martha and two others arrived, breathing heavily.
“I don't need to tell you what our mission is; it's obvious enough. Now let's go,” I said, and they nodded, and we began to run towards the forest because we couldn't afford to arrive late.
It took us ten good hours to come up with five herb mixtures that we presume to be the cure for the bite, after which I gave everything to Martha to keep in her house, and we marked the path we picked the herbs and the leaves. Then we began to come back to the pack; everyone was obviously famished.
“Come at the dark moon forest and pick us up,” I mind-linked to my driver as we approached the exit.
“Kiera, what's your husband's plan? Will he also marry his fated mate?” Martha asked, and I rolled my eyes at her. I wasn't desiring that conversation.
“I don't know, and let's have this conversation some other time,” I said to her. She's my best friend, and I have a lot to catch up with her, but not with two more pairs of ears sticking around us.
“Okay,” she said with a smile; she already knows that I've got a lot of gist for her.
My driver finally arrived, dropped me off in front of the Alpha's mansion, and drove them to the lake house. All I want to do right now is take a freezing bath, eat, and sleep. Nothing more than that. The minute I walked in, I noticed how dry the entire house is, not a single maid around; I couldn't even hear their voice. That's so absurd.
“Welcome back, Luna of the Moonlight Pack.” I didn't need to raise my head up to know who owns that devilish voice.
I didn't say a thing; I continued walking towards my room. It's a good thing that I stopped staying in the master's bedroom when Preston left for the war; if not, they would have thrown my things out by now. Furthermore, I pushed my door open to walk in, but then she dragged my cloth by its collar, and I turned with all my might and kicked her hard in her stomach.
“Ahhhhh” She exclaimed in pain while clutching her stomach.
“Tasha, behave yourself! I don't enjoy these pointless jokes,” I warned, and she stood up immediately and kicked me hard in my stomach, and the impact was so much that I landed hard on the stairs. I narrowed my eyes, confused. How did she do that?
“You want to fight right?” She asked, and I limped to my feet even though the pain is unbearable; I can't give her the satisfaction she desires. I punched her hard in her face, and she tried to reciprocate, and I held her hand. With her right hand, she brought out a silver arrow. I didn't notice she was with one all along. I wonder where she hid it since she's putting on a gown.
“You're a fool for touching your filthy hand on me,” she said as she tried to stab me, but then I couldn't let her do that. We began to drag the arrow; she either stabbed me or I stabbed her. One person would take the pain or even die for it. We continued dragging until she began to shift slowly into her wolf, her claws all out as she tried to tear my face with them.
I began to shift slowly too, just my hands, my claws all out, and I gave her the exact tear she gave me; blood began to drip down our cheeks and shoulders; we might as well die next to each other. I can't let her kill me; her face shifted to that of her wolf as she tried to use her canines on me.
After a few minutes, the main door clicked open. I turned sharply to see Preston running towards us. Turning back to Tasha, she held the arrow tight enough and stabbed herself.
Holy crap!
Why would she do that? She fell to the floor with a loud thud. “Tasha!” Preston voiced out in pain, possibly feeling his mate's pain. I took to my heels immediately; I didn't even notice anyone's presence until someone held my hand. I looked up immediately, and for a second, time froze.
What the hell is he doing here? The man from last night? This can't be happening. I swallowed hard and tried to yank my hand off him, our eyes still glued to each other.
“I am your Luna; you have no right to stop me. Move!" I let out immediately, finding my voice again, and he squinted his eyebrows, perhaps confused.
“Call the doctors! The nurses! The healers.” Preston screamed in pain as he carried his mate in his arms and began to walk upstairs to their room.
“That doesn't change the fact that you're a murderer,” he said, and just then Preston looked down at us as guards pushed the door open and maids began to walk in from their hidden places.
“Take Kiera to the dungeon.” The guards dragged my hands immediately; before I could say a word, they had already dragged me like a worthless criminal and walked out of the Alpha's mansion.

Aethelwulf POVIt's been three days since Kiera has been laying in this bed with no form of improvement, instead she keeps looking paler each day, her skin losing its natural glow bit by bit, her lips dry and slightly parted like she’s trying to breathe through something heavy. I can feel it strongly that something is not right, the kind of feeling that doesn’t just come and go, it stays and presses at the back of my mind. It's either the diagnosis was wrong or the medication itself is the problem. But the same medication is doing wonders in the entire Pack, there are no death rates again, the healing wing has reduced drastically in pressure, in fact the doctors already came up with a vaccine for protection against the virus, the pack members are all getting better, walking around like nothing even happened, but then the one person that found the cure to the virus is about to die from it, that doesn’t make any sense at all. I dragged Kiera's door open and stepped in, the faint scent o
Martha POVThankfully, today was much better than yesterday. With the herb being distributed all over the Pack, it has reduced the number of patients coming in, and a lot of people were even discharged today. The healing wing wasn’t as crowded, the usual tension in the air had reduced, and there was finally space to breathe and actually focus on the patients that still needed attention. Alpha was thoughtful enough to employ more hands, and honestly, it made a big difference because he knows how demanding this job can be, especially in times like this when everything feels overwhelming. The minute I reached the main road that leads directly to my house, I felt it again, goosebumps spreading all over my body just like this morning. Fear gripped me suddenly and without warning, my steps slowed down as I could feel my legs shaking beneath me, my entire body trembling slightly like something unseen had brushed past me. I took a step forward and placed my hands on my knees for support, tryi
Aethelwulf POV"The office is open now." Cole announced, his voice cutting into the silence and pulling us back to reality. I cleared my throat lightly and gestured for them to walk in first before following behind them. The door opened to the familiar office space, the scent of polished wood and old paper settling in the air. I walked straight to the head swivel chair across the desk and sat down, adjusting slightly as the leather shifted under my weight. My eyes settled immediately on disaster himself sitting right in front of me, his posture relaxed like he had all the time in the world. I exhaled slowly, pushing every unnecessary thought aside. I need to shift my mind off for now and focus on the meeting. Their reason for being here, nothing more."You both are welcome to the Moonlight Pack, it's a pleasure to have you both here," I started, my tone calm and controlled, leaving no room for familiarity. I wasn’t here to entertain conversations or revisit anything from the past, I
Aethelwulf POVI looked at her with deep confusion written all over my face, my brows slowly drawing together as I tried to make sense of what I was seeing. What the hell is she doing here? This is the second time I am seeing her in Kiera’s room, and it doesn’t sit right with me at all. I thought they were supposed to be enemies, not this… whatever this is, not this sudden act of concern and calmness like nothing ever happened between them. Not that I don’t want them to be on good terms, that would make things easier for everyone, but then what happened to doing that when she was conscious, when there was actually a chance for it to mean something?“I came to check up on her,” she said, her voice smooth and controlled, almost too controlled, and I turned back to Kiera slowly, my attention shifting away from Tasha as I stared at Kiera’s pale skin, my eyes scanning her face carefully, trying to understand what exactly was going on.This isn’t what I expected to see in any way. Not even
Martha’s POVYesterday wore my skin off entirely, it took a complete toll on me, draining every single ounce of strength I had left in my body. I’ve never really gone to the hospital to help out before, I always stayed away from that environment, the smell, the tension, the constant movement, it was never my space, but as Alpha Aethelwulf ordered that I should do that with two more people, I had no choice but to obey. Even now, thinking about it alone made my chest feel tight, if I could, I would swear never to go there again, never step into that place again, but sadly I will be going there again this morning whether I like it or not.“Good morning, my love,” Jeff greeted as he walked into the room while smoking, the thick scent of it filling the air immediately, crawling into my lungs like poison.“You’re smoking this early?” I asked, my voice already carrying frustration, and he gave me that look, the same look he always gives, the one that clearly says what will you do about it, l
Aethelwulf POVWhy does this look more like a trap to me than an entrust? I shrugged my shoulders slowly, letting the thought settle but not fully trusting it, then closed my door behind me with a quiet click that echoed slightly in the silent room. I should have a good sleep first, tomorrow I will figure out if there is more to this. Something about the way Preston spoke, the timing, the urgency, it all sat wrong with me, like pieces of a puzzle that didn’t want to fit naturally. I walked back to my bed, dragged my polo off my body and threw myself onto it, landing with a loud thud that shook the mattress slightly under my weight. The room was dark, thick with silence, only the faint sound of the wind pressing against the windows breaking it slightly. Darkness covered my vision almost immediately as my body finally gave in to rest. But there was more to it this time, I wasn’t sleeping, or maybe my body was, but my mind wasn’t sinking properly into rest, my soul felt suspended somewh
Kiera’s POVIt’s been over four days of working hand in hand with Alpha Aethelwulf, and it has been unbearably awkward for me. For reasons I can’t even fully explain to myself, I find it impossible to look him in the face. To be completely honest, I go out of my way to maintain a certain distance b
Aethelwulf POVIt's been three days of Kiera, Preston's Luna, staying in the dungeon. Tasha hasn't fully recuperated, and the priority is dying in multiples every single day, every time deaths are being recorded. Scrolling through my tablet, signing some e-documents my PA sent to me, I couldn't sle
Kiera's POVEverywhere was dark, very dark, but only the blood moon stood, giving light to the earth. Then voices of cries from women and kids filled the air, fire vapor evaporated to the sky, and sounds of paws and claws clashing saturated. In a war, the enemies seemed to be winning. I seemed to j
Kiera's POV"Alpha Preston, I dare you to send me back there." I said while looking directly into his eyes. I could see the shock in his eyes."You seem to have grown wings."
