Masuk~Lindsey~ I stretch as my alarm clock rings shrilly. I reach over and hit it a bit harder than necessary before rolling out of bed. I’ve felt nauseous ever since my conversation last night with Hunter. We’ve rarely ever argued over something this important. I had always believed he wanted what’s best for me and would support me in whatever decision that I would make. I tell myself that maybe he’ll come around. Maybe he will see how much Brady and I love each other and understand why I can’t be with Jagger. I head to the bathroom to wash my face and get ready for the day. I’ve tried to put a little more care into my appearance. I’ll be luna in a few years, and I don’t want to look like a slob. Not that I’m dressing like a model or anything. Just abandoning my comfy sweats and leggings for weekends. I pull on skinny jeans and a thin sweater since today is supposed to be cooler with the rain moving through. Just makes me wish I could stay home and curl up with a good book.
~Lindsey~ I feel the tension between Jagger and Hunter. It’s so thick you could cut it with a knife. I look between the two, realizing that Hunter is pushing Jagger to be with me, which honestly doesn’t surprise me. He would get his wish: me back in White Fang. “How odd. Especially since mates are so highly regarded. Surely your advisor,” I look at Hunter, “must know the importance of the mate bond. To break it is to break oneness with your wolf.” I state clearly as Hunter’s gaze turn icy. Brady looks stunned only for a second before I see a small smile grace his visage. “Surely you would agree that any she wolf would have the highest honor to be the luna of White Fang, having hailed from their yourself for so long.” Hunter tilts his head, challenging me. I know he’s waiting for me to take the bait. If I agree, he’ll ask why I don’t become the luna, and if I disagree, he will feign offense and make some ridiculous demand to push me in that direction. I have no intention on fal
~Brady~ The second Lindsey walks through my door I’m stunned. Her dress brings out her eyes, making them almost glow. The slight shimmer from the diamonds give her an ethereal appearance, almost like she is the goddess of the forest. “You gonna say anything?” She asks shyly. That blush that drives me crazy creeps onto her cheeks. “You look amazing.” I couldn’t think of anything else to say. Hopefully she takes it as a compliment. “Thank you. So do you.” I look at myself quickly before returning my gaze to her. As instructed I wore my black suit. Nothing special to me. Just business as normal. But Lindsey? I just can’t get over her. “Ah! You look breathtaking!” Mom appears out of nowhere, reminding me that there are other people in the room. “Thank you! But I’ve still got a lot to learn, I see! You look like a model!” Lindsey compliments Mom who says something about flattery. I’m still stunned. “Dude close your mouth. You’re going to get drool on the floor.” Colt
~Lindsey~ Luna Maci’s plan worked just like she said it would. I make my way down the hallway, killing the tipsy act. I only had one glass of wine. While it was quite strong, I indulged with Jagger some in the past, though it was beer and not wine. My tolerance isn’t strong by any means, but I only feel slightly more relaxed than normal. I’d have to have another before I started really feeling it. Aunt Cammie greets me at the door with a wink. I had a feeling her and Mrs. Darla would be in on the “mission”, as Luna Maci called it. “Oh my! Let’s get you a glass of water and some crackers.” Aunt Cammie says, ushering me to the kitchen. “What’s wrong?” Grant yells over his shoulder, playing some game with his brother in the living area. “Nothing! Nothing! Everything is fine!” I hear Zack cuss at Grant for pausing the game as he leaps over the back of the couch. “What’s wrong with Lindsey?” He looks between his mom and me. Apparently Zack is interested and peaks from the co
~Brady~ Dad and I are in his study, filing official documents and the like. I finally work up the courage to ask him. “Dad, when are we telling Mom and Lindsey?” “About what, son?” He continues looking at the paperwork, feigning ignorance. I know I don’t have to spell it out for him; he was almost as anxious as me at the hospital. Mom would have a fit if she knew. “The DNA test.” “Oh.” He’s really horrible at acting surprised. “I don’t see the need. After all John said there’s only a small fraction of a chance that the first test was wrong. She’s probably in with Blaine somehow. Waiting three months before receiving care? Highly unlikely. She wolves are protective of their young. Unless she’s had no symptoms, she would have been to a doctor by now.” “Wait. You think she was linked to Blaine somehow? He’s only been in Black Forest for a few weeks. There’s no way that the baby could be his.” The math just doesn’t add up. And she was in the pack the entire time. I would have know
~Lindsey~ Neither of them will tell me anything except that I’m needed at the packhouse immediately. I’m silently praying that this means Dad is ok. If he was injured, we would be headed to the hospital. If he was dead, I would have to confirm his body as his next of kin. I try to hope for the best as Logan leisurely makes his way down the road. I stare out the window to pass the time. I haven’t been to this part of the pack before; it’s mostly industrial with a few houses arranged in neighborhoods. We pass a couple of apartment complexes and some office buildings. The little shack on the edge of town looks odd in comparison with the hustle and bustle that’s taking place. Soon, I start to recognize some buildings and road names. The closer we get to the packhouse, the more the butterflies churn in my stomach. When we pull into the driveway, I almost feel ready to hurl. “This way,” Grant says as Logan opens my door. “And Lindsey, I’m sorry about today. I’m still learning too.”
~Lindsey~ I must be hallucinating. There’s no way he’s still holding on to the delusion that I’m his mate. The only thing keeping me from marking Brady right now is the fact that I don’t have a wolf. I’ve known for a while that he’s the one; no one else gets me like he does. “Mate,” I hear a fe
~Brady~The day blurs by. After breakfast, we ran some errands and brought Mom a fancy coffee from her favorite shop, which put us back in her good graces. After lunch, we got Lindsey and John settled into the gamma wing. Now we just wait for the arrival of whatever psychopath Walt is sending. I’m
~Brady~They’ve been talking for what seems like ages. They’re right outside the doors, but I can’t quite make out their conversation. Suddenly I hear Lindsey laugh. I silently curse myself. That damned wolf used his charm on her. I see them hug and feel my stomach drop to my feet. “Hey Bray, you
~Lindsey~I never knew someone could be so demanding. After we finish about a dozen errands, Brady and I head to the packhouse for dinner. I love how easy everything feels with him, like I’m hanging out with a part of me that’s outside of my body. “I can’t believe she ordered so much alcohol. We
