My alarm goes off at 6, but I didn’t sleep at all; too much was on my mind. I go downstairs to the kitchen to grab coffee and a granola bar before I begin my walk to the gym. I mind link Colton and Grant, my future beta and gamma. “We have some things to discuss today. Plan on a run to the packhouse after training.” “Ugh dude stop being such a hard ass. Can’t we take a day off every now and then?” Grant lazily says. “Sounds like you’ve had a long night. Who was it? Lacey or Deanna?” Colton mocks. Grant is definitely a ladies man. Not saying we don’t all enjoy a good roll in the hay. Grant just indulges the most. “Neither. I had a strange feeling in the middle of the night. I couldn’t shake it until well after 4. Now this morning Dad is gone. So something is definitely up. Spill the beans, Almighty Alpha.” That got my attention. Grant never loses a night of sleep. An entire construction site couldn’t keep him awake. And stress? I’m surprised the guy even knows the meaning of the word: he’s the personification of don’t worry, be happy. Something is definitely going on. “Yeah my dad just got in about half an hour ago. You really gonna make us wait a whole hour to find out what’s going on?” “Colton see if you can get any info from Uncle Dave. Grant, who was the doctor from White Fang that helped your dad after that rogue attack last year?” “I don’t know. Johnathan something. Holder maybe? What does that have to do with anything?” “Hopefully I can tell you the answer to that soon. I’ll be at the gym in five. Don’t be late. We need to set an example.” I close the link and take a long sip of coffee. The air smells different today. Sweeter, like my mom’s flower garden, even though it’s in the middle of February. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but my entire being seems to relax just a little. Colton arrives five minutes before 7, though Grant comes strolling in with seconds to spare, looking like absolute shit. “Dude you weren’t kidding. You look like you’ve been hit by a bus.” Colton mindlinks the both of us. “Haha very funny asshole. I look better than you any day of the week. “Time to get serious guys. We can talk about how ugly you both are later.” I quip back before turning my attention to the warriors. Everyone here is either in high school or college. People with their wolves have additional training with my dad after school, but we believe it’s just as important to train our human forms as it is to train our wolves. “Get in five laps then start with weights. At 7:30 we pair up. Go!” I shout, and everyone is off. Anyone foolish enough not to stretch beforehand, like Grant, is shit out of luck. After we get individual training done, I announce pairs. Everyone finds their partner, meanwhile my team and I observe and give feedback until it’s time for a break. Much to my dismay, my fan club fawns over me when I pair up with Colton. He’s weaker than me but just barely. Jaqueline, the most annoying she wolf on the planet, saunters up to me and whispers “good luck, my alpha,” before rejoining her group of girls. She’s convinced when she gets her wolf in two months that we will be mates. I pray the Moon Goddess isn’t that cruel. You hook up with someone one time in a drunken haze, and now they think they own you. I block out all the negative thoughts and focus on beating Colton. He knows my weaknesses and strengths better than anyone. Grant and Trey, my future head warrior, stand on either side of us, waiting to critique our match. We’re off, and Colton can feel my distraction, so he goes for a right hook first to try and knock me on my ass. Thankfully I snap out of it just in time and dodge his fist. I use his momentum against him and go for a rib shot. I make contact, but he managed to move just enough that the blow is not as effective as I anticipated. He recovers and swings behind me, ready to attack. We go at it full force, him hitting me, me hitting him until time is called. We’re both pouring sweat and panting by the time we’re done. We shake hands, and I tell everyone to get back to work. “Something’s got you distracted, Brady. You good?” Trey notices everything, granted he’s also three years older than us, so he picks up on cues quickly. Thankfully he’s smart enough to wait till everyone has walked off. There’s only about 10 minutes left in training, so it’s not a huge deal if I miss a few spars. “Yeah. Just got some stuff on my mind. You know anything about some new pack members?” I ask. Dad has started letting Trey take over some of the border controls, but Trey asked to wait until I became alpha to take over full time. “Damn. Didn’t realize Alpha was letting that be known yet. Yeah they arrived late last night. Sounds like a fugitive situation. From what I gathered the guy’s daughter was in some serious trouble. I didn’t press. Sounded kinda personal. I was just told to keep an eye out for any warriors from White Fang, except for their beta. He’s the one who helped get them out. Not sure what all is going on there.” “Hmm. Dad didn’t tell me anything yet. I noticed he got in late last night and overheard him talking to Mom. Thanks man. I really owe you one. And don’t worry. I didn’t hear anything from you.” I see the relief flood over Trey’s face at my last statement. Dad believes in keeping tight lips though I usually get clued in on most things now. Maybe he’ll tell me at dinner tonight. Regardless, my curiosity is officially piqued. I can’t help but wonder what could possibly be going on in White Fang, and why on earth my dad chose to get involved.~Lindsey~ I finish applying my makeup and take another look at my hair, making sure nothing is out of place. Not that I’ve got some elaborate hairstyle, but I want to look nice for Brady tonight. I stand up a little too quickly and immediately feel sore from our escapade earlier today. He can get a little overzealous in the moment. I’m not complaining though; he knows exactly what to do to make me reach heights I’ve never been to before. I walk back to my room and pull on black skinny jeans and silky red top. I fluff out my curls and slide into some cute ankle boots. “Grant!” I call as I enter the living area of the gamma floor. “Sup?” He looks back at me from the couch. “Nope.”“What do you mean ‘nope’?” I ask puzzled. “Nope you’re not wearing that. You do not need to get pregnant tonight.” He crosses his arms and shakes his head. “Oh give it up Grant. You act like she doesn’t smell like Brady.” Aunt Cammie rolls her eyes. I blush, a bit embarrassed. “Mom, what the hell? Why
~Brady~The next day, Dad finally returned home. As much as I enjoyed running the pack, I was glad to hand the majority of the work back over to him. He commended me for my job well done and told me he’d take over tomorrow. He said that he and Mom had some catching up to do which totally grossed me out. I’m almost finished with my work when I get a knock on the door. “Come in.” I call, continuing to work. As soon as the door opens, the scent of lavender and vanilla mixing in perfect harmony fills my nostrils and sets my body at ease. “Thought I’d come keep you company. I heard your parents were out of the packhouse for the day. We finally got everything set up for the welcome home party, so I’m finished for the week.” Lindsey says happily as she sits across from me. “Glad to hear it.” I smile at her before continuing to work. “Did you set a date for the spring pack party?” “Yep! Gina helped me find a Saturday that fits nicely into the schedule, and your mom loved my theme idea.”
~Lindsey~“Shit.” Logan says out of the blue. “What’s wrong?” I ask. He’s escorting Deanna and me to the lunch room, our new normal since he became my on campus bodyguard. “I don’t know if I should tell you. You’re not gonna like it.” He rubs the back of his neck and bites his bottom lip nervously. “What? Is Brady ok?” I grab his arm, concerned. “Yeah he’s fine. At least I think he is.” Logan squints his eyes, cringing at something that I’m assuming he’s receiving over a mind link. “Tell me, I’ll get Grant to.” Deanna threatens from my other side. “He wouldn’t. This is bro coded.” Logan looks at Deanna with doubt. “I have my ways. He’ll tell me.” She returns his look confidently. “What? You can’t show him your boobs or anything. You’re at school. He’s at the packhouse.”Deanna takes it as a challenge then suddenly gasps. “Oh my gosh!” “Wait he told you?” Logan is shocked. Deanna leans in and lowers her voice. “Jacqueline went to the alpha office in lingerie and tried to sedu
~Brady~ “Well you seem better today.” Colton says as we all meet in my office as we do every morning. “We have good news. Dad and Uncle Dave are coming home, the council conducted their business, and the king is commending our pack on its dedication to justice.” I offer a small smile though I can’t help but notice the couch behind him as I give bullshit reasons as to why my mood improved. “Nah somethings different. I feel better this morning. Almost like…” Grant drifts off. “No way! You banged my cousin?!” I sigh and place a hand on my head. So it’s true that the gamma’s mood improves when the luna’s does. At least I know Lindsey was satisfied after our activities last night. “Dude no way! Congrats!” Colton says, offering me a high five that I do not accept. “Congrats? This isn’t good news! He slept with my cousin!” Grant says, outraged. “Oh I’m sure they did a lot more than sleep.” Colton says smirking. “Besides what the hell did you think? She’s his mate. They were going
~Lindsey~I clap my hands, almost giddy with excitement. “Brady, please?” I look up at him, batting my eyelashes. “I’ve missed having him around so much. He’s like a brother to me.”“I mean at least I’m asking. I could just get approval to be with my alpha who happens to be in your pack at the moment. Where is he, by the way?” Brady shifts uneasily. I can tell he’s not Hunter’s biggest fan. “At the hospital. With his brother.” “Damn. I heard you did a number on Blaine. Son of a bitch had it coming, if you don’t mind me saying so. I’d like to tour your facilities as well. We need a serious overhaul here. Jagger mentioned they were top notch.” Hunter just keeps seesawing on Brady’s nerves, complimenting him one second and irritating him the next. I’ll definitely have to talk to him about toning some of his sarcasm down. He can be so rough around the edges, but he’s got a heart of gold. “We would be honored to have you. After my father returns.” Brady says flatly. I rub his arm, tryi
~Brady~ I look around but don’t spot Lindsey. I’m thinking he might be right. “Where the hell is my luna?” I say, growing more irritated by the second. They both whip around to look at me. Grant responds. “Um…. About that….” He looks at Colton for backup. Colton’s whole body moves as he sighs. “Someone just took her.” “What?!” I yell with every ounce of my being. I’m pretty sure the windows in the packhouse shook. Warriors immediately start running from inside and around the sides of the building. “Find her! Now! No one rests until Lindsey is back safe!” “Brady, wait,” Colton grabs my arm which is already turning black with fur. “She knew whoever it was. She went willingly.” That stops me dead in my tracks. Knight stops trying to force himself out. My brain shuts off for a second. “She what?” “She knew who it was. We didn’t see him. He must be stealthy. I didn’t recognize the voice, but she did. We barely heard anything until she started running towards it. We too
~Brady~ This is perfect. Not only do I have a chance to get back at Colton and Grant for the stunt they pulled last week, but I get to see Lindsey in action. There’s not much hotter than a couple of girls fighting it out. Plus she’s wearing some tight leggings and a long sleeve crop top that hug
~ Lindsey ~ Who does this alpha asshole think he is? I meet his gorgeous blue eyes dead on, mischief and arrogance lace his features. “Uh I guess showing me where my classes are since, ya know, that’s your job.” After I make my intentions clear I turn away from him and try to create as much dista
~Lindsey~ I walk down the pavement and open the truck door. “Good morning!” I say with a smile. “Thanks again for picking me up, Mr. Matt. Hi, I’m Lindsey!” I wave to the girl in the middle seat, who I am assuming is Callie. “Hi, I’m Callie. You wouldn’t happen to be this happy every morning
~Lindsey~ After shopping we take a quick grocery run to pick up some fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat. There were basic essentials and shelf stable items already in the house, but Dad believes in cooking healthy meals. Probably the doctor in him feels a little hypocritical telling others to do t
