Sera

“I didn't do it," I whisper, my voice weak and torn from crying too much. “I… didn't… do it."

I don't know how long I stay like that–curled up on the hay with my face buried in my arms as my chest shakes with my quiet sobs.

The stray under me scratches against my skin every time I move. Cold seeped into the small space from the walls and stone floor, creeping through my clothes. I hug myself tighter as I shiver. My teeth clatter despite the trial to still them.

At some point, my crying slo

SeraFor a long moment, neither of us makes a move to say anything. We just stand there, avoiding eye contact as the world carries on around us. No longer comfortable with the silence, I open my mouth to speak when a horn blares suddenly behind me. I flinch and curse before I can stop myself, but Aeron still doesn't move. Instead, he raises his gaze, locking it on me like nothing else exists. My chest tightened at the intensity of his stare, making it hard to breathe. Then, breaking the quiet, he finally says, “I want you to come back to the mansion." There is no hesitation in his tone. Just that simple, direct edge, like what he had asked was the easiest thing in the world to do. I shake my head and let out a quiet scoff at how incredulous he sounded. But when I see he's still holding his serious stare, I stop and take a step back. "You want me to come back?” I ask, a wry smile etched on my face. “Why? What is your reason?" He takes too long to give an answer. And that, more t

SeraI can't tell if it's just me but the uniform feels tighter than I remember. The fabric clings to my waist, outlining my frame as I move between tables. I adjust the black apron tied to snug around me, cursing under my breath as I approach the she-wolf reading off the menu. “Good morning,” I greet, forcing my voice to sound normal. My fingers grip the small notebook and pen like they're the only things anchoring me steady. “Have you decided on your order?" The she-wolf opens her mouth to answer as she lifts her head to me. But the moment our eyes meet, her words die in her throat and she just seats there, staring at me. "Ma'am?” I ask, trying to keep my voice steady. "Your order please?”She blinks, nodding as she brings her gaze back to the menu. As she lists what she wants, I begin writing them down carefully, making sure my hand doesn't shake. "Do you want anything else to go with that?” I ask after I'm done. "No,” she answers, shaking her head. With a forced smile, I nod

SeraThe house still feels the same, barely changed since I left. The paints are mostly off the walls and the faint damp smell of the moss growing by the window seeped into the dining room. It mixed with the scent of old wood and cooked food, churning my stomach. I adjust on the uneven dining chair, its legs wobbling lightly as I shift. The table still has that long crack that runs down the middle, like it had been split into two and glued back together. For once, I tasted what it was like to eat by one that glinted off chandelier lights. But now… I'm here again. I sigh, resting my hands on my lap. My eyes drop down to the food in front of me–rice, a small portion of pumpkin sauce, barely any meat. It's the same meal I've eaten countless times before…Before the Alpha's mansion. Across from me, Aaliyah and Leah sit close together, their frames flickering against the dying lightbulb hung over us. They aren't eating yet and their heads tilt slightly toward each other as they move t

MarcellusThe door to the council chamber creaks open as the guards push them inward. I nod at them and walk into the already filled room. High-backed chairs line both sides of the long wooden table stretching across the center of the room, most of them occupied. The elders sit in their usual places, hands folded over the polished surface. The chandelier above cast a dull glow over their set faces as they exchanged quiet words among themselves in low voices. “Apologies for my lateness," I say with a sigh as I step inside. I clutch tightly the wrapped gift and sealed envelope as the doors closed behind me. “The morning traffic on the way here was not–" My words die in my throat as my gaze lands on the only she-wolf in the room. Helena. She is seated comfortably among the elders, her posture straight and her hands clasped neatly on the table as if she belongs there. Her expression, as she watches me, is calm… almost expectant. My brows folds as a frown descends on my face immediate

MarcellusI walk away from the training grounds without looking back, and turn toward the stone pathway leading back to the mansion. The chaos from everything has already begun to die down. The guards have resumed their posts, and the Omega Wolves have returned to their duties like nothing happened. The only testament from before is the faint scent of blood carried by the wind. I look over my shoulder as I walk and find Aeron still where I had left him. Good. He needs the time and space to think. Hands folded behind my back, I continue on down the path, my steps steady and unhurried. There is no need to rush anymore as all that is needed to be said has already been said. Still, it concerns me to see that the courtyard ahead is quieter than it should be for a day like this. I still recall how the feel of celebration still lingered in the air, days after Aeron's father's coronation. But for his son, instead, the entire place feels like it's been restrained. If only he followed m

AeronMarcellus' question hangs between us, his words pressing heavier than the heat swarming around us. I don't answer him immediately. Instead, I turn away from him, dragging my hand through my blood-matted hair. “I didn't have a choice," I mutter finally, the image of Sera walking away burning into my mind. "I couldn't–”"There's always a choice, Aeron,” Marcellus says, unconvinced. "But what I think your problem is is the fact that you don't consider the consequences that would arise from you being complacent.”“I'm not–” I stood myself from shouting. I take in a deep breath, lowering my voice as I turn back to face him fully now. "I'm not complacent, Marcellus. I know things went badly today but she made her decision and she walked away without a thought.”"She didn't just walk away,” he counters calmly. "You let her go." His tone isn't accusing and that only seems to make things worse. I clench my teeth, forcing the rage and guilt rising back down. Then something in me snaps.
