Elena POV

I felt Genevieve move closer, her hand gentle as it rested on my shoulder. The atmosphere in the room was heavy with sorrow, every person fully aware of the sadness lingering between us. As Jacob rose to go speak with Asher, Margot stepped in, wrapping her arms tightly around me. That nearly shattered my composure. She had always made me feel safe, the way a mother should, and her familiar coconut scent wrapped me in bittersweet comfort. As she pulled away, I sniffled and looked around, suddenly noticing someone missing. “Where’s Dawn?” I asked softly, hoping to lift the tension clouding the room.

Moments later, I heard soft footsteps outside the door before it swung open and Dawn barreled into the room with that bright grin of hers. Without hesitation, I scooped her up by the arms and lifted her into my lap. She quickly adjusted, looping her little arms around my neck while I rubbed her small back in slow motions. My eyes drifted to Jacob and Genevieve, sharing silent unde

Once we made it inside, she led us towards the kitchen where tons of people were. Mostly pups who couldn't stop messing around. Especially Dawn who was very energetic courtesy of the many sweets she's had. But, once Jacob managed to get her seated and we sang happy birthday. The moment that I've quite literally been begging for, happened. Elena looked at me with an urgency to her and then her gaze dropped to the ground.Where her water had just broke. My eyes widened as I followed her gaze. My heartbeat quickened. Was it really time?"Um Asher." she spoke before a painful groan had left her lips alerting the whole pack.“Elena?” I stepped forward, instantly bracing her shoulders.“It hurts,” she gasped, grabbing onto my arms. “It really hurts.”Her knees had given out but, I swiftly picked her up in my arms just before she could hit the ground. She held onto me as I felt her pain kick in through the mate bond which stung at my heart.“Hang on, baby. I’ve got you,” I murmured against h

Asher’s POV“Thank you for being here,” I murmured, offering a small, tight smile as Grayson gave my shoulder a supportive pat.“Of course, Alpha,” he replied with a knowing look, his tone edged with humor.I chuckled softly, shaking my head as I tugged at my collar, loosening it. “I told you to call me Asher—you never learn,” I teased, stepping over to the other side of my desk.Leaves crunched beneath our feet as we walked side by side, her arms gently wrapped around mine. The path to the river was silent except for that soft, steady sound, and as the cyan-blue water came into view, so did the group waiting for us. Jacob, Genevieve, Dawn, and my mom stood by the familiar boulders—the same spot where Elena and I once spoke about my father. Everyone was dressed in black. Even Grayson and his mate were standing with them, offering silent support. Some members of the pack stood slightly apart, forming a respectful distance. All eyes followed us as we walked closer to the river’s edge.I

Elena's POVSuddenly, the house was filled with a soft chime as the doorbell echoed through the walls. I lifted my gaze to Asher, curiosity pulling at my expression. His soft smile and the way he gestured for me to stay put only made my heart beat a little faster with anxiousness. He didn’t want me moving around yet. Not after everything that happened. It wasn’t long before I heard footsteps return upstairs, but this time Asher wasn’t alone. When I saw Jacob’s face, it was like all the sadness I had pushed back broke loose again. His expression matched mine, sorrowful, understanding, and he immediately came to me, offering a gentle but tight hug. The embrace was filled with silent apologies, compassion radiating from him. I didn’t hold back the few tears that slipped down as I let myself be comforted by his warmth. His hand remained steady over my bump, soothingly rubbing soft circles. “Marcus doesn’t know exactly what happened,” he murmured. “He called it a miracle that only one of t

Elena POV I whimpered as sharp waves of pain radiated from my abdomen, each one stronger than the last. Curling up tightly, I wrapped my arms protectively around my stomach. “They’re dying, Asher,” I choked out, tears blurring my vision, the weight of my words cutting deeper than the pain itself. His distressed eyes flickered between me and Paul, desperate for answers no one could give."At least do something about her pain!" Asher snapped, his voice sharp, breaking with helplessness. His hand swept the strands of damp hair from my face, his touch both comforting and desperate. “And someone get a fucking blanket, she’s shaking,” he barked, his fury directed at anyone who stood idly by. I hadn’t even realized just how violently my body trembled, but his warmth grounded me in that moment.I squeezed my eyes shut, another cry ripping free as I pressed both palms to my abdomen, right where my little boys and girl should’ve been safe. I prayed they knew how fiercely I loved them. How none
