I woke already aware something was wrong.

Not physical absence—Rhiannon was still there, moving quietly near the dresser. Wrong in the way the bond felt. Muted. Like fog pressed against glass, visible but impenetrable.

She was fully dressed. Hair damp from an early shower. Her movements were careful and quiet.

The sight struck harder than any rejection.

"You're up early," I said, sitting up.

She stilled. Didn't turn around. "Couldn't sleep."

"Come back to bed."

"I should—there are things I need to—" Her voice faltered.

I crossed the room and caught her hand. "Rhiannon. Look at me."

She did. Hazel eyes guarded, carefully blank.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Just restless." She pulled her hand free gently. "I'll see you later."

She left before I could press further. The door closed with a muted thud—not anger, not carelessness. Finality.
