My fingers tightened around my spoon. I glanced at Lucian, unsure how to answer.

He set his coffee down.

"Zara isn't going anywhere today, Mira."

"Not today," she repeated, frowning. "But what about tomorrow?"

Lucian's jaw tightened.

I reached for her hand and held it

"Sweetheart, I'm here now. And if anything ever changes, I promise I'll talk to you about it. I won't just disappear without saying goodbye."

She considered that for a moment before nodding.

"Okay."
