Jade’s pov: After leaving mom at the training grounds, seeing as she claimed she wanted to calm down first – and what better way to do that than to let out some steam? – I decided to hit the pack house. I had barely eaten yesterday, and today I felt famished. Trevor made himself really subtle and nearly invisible when I sat at one of the stools in the kitchen. “Ooh, nice contacts you have there, Luna Jade,” one of the omega servants let out as she caught sight of me in the hallways. “I am not wearing any,” I retorted with a small smile. Her eyebrows disappeared into her hairline, but she didn’t utter a word further, soon disappearing into the cinema, which – if I had to make a guess – she had to clean. “You shouldn’t be up and about, Luna Jade,” one of the kitchen omegas let out in a soft hesitant tone of voice, her eyes looking down at her own feet, her teeth biting on her bottom lip nervously. “Yes, absolutely,” another one chimed in more confidently while she stirred the p
Alex’s pov: My beloved Luna was finally asserting her dominance over those despicable people, and I was all here for it. Hell, if it hadn’t been for the little bundle of joy in my hands, I would have snapped a neck or two.The disrespect they showed her was unforgivable, and she retaliated with enough violence to shut them up, and enough restraint not to be called berserk. Truth be told, even though I knew this might come to bite us in the ass later, I couldn’t stop grinning like a fool. “What’s the smile about?” She asked me after a beat, after we walked a few paces. “I am proud of you,” I retorted easily, my smile broadening. “You handled that so well. In a totally takes-no-shit-from-nobody style.” “And here I was afraid you wouldn’t be thrilled about it,” she giggled somewhat nervously, despite the mirth dancing in the depths of her mesmerizing lilac eyes. “Love, you were totally badass out there,” I deadpanned, giving her a look. “What’s there not to love?” “You think so?”
Stepping out of the cottage, Tyler nestled in my arms, the love of my life by my side, I never felt so complete. Breathing in the brisk air felt like a blessing, and I was pleased beyond words. At that moment, it didn’t matter that I was not a Falls but a Knight, not a werewolf but a hybrid… All I cared about at that moment was this family, this life I built for myself here at Moonlight Pack.“I love you, Alex,” I choked on my tears, as I took small cautious steps forward, careful not to wake our sleeping baby. “So do I, love,” he retorted, a big smile stretching his lips. Trevor trailed behind us, and remained alert. It was endearing to see how concerned he was about us. And I hoped the day would come where we would celebrate his mating, Luc’s too. Soon, I told myself, unable to do anything but believe that fate had its ways but wasn’t cruel by nature. “Trouble at 10 o’clock,” Trevor soon muttered under his breath. I sensed them before I even saw them. The elders, who had alway
Jade’s pov:“So what am I?” I couldn’t help but choke on the words, tears streaming down my cheeks. “Biologically, you’re a Knight,” mom smiled at me through her own tears. “Emotionally, you’re my beloved daughter.” This was so much to process. I was no longer just Alex’s Luna – and possibly a born healer. I had a legacy of my own, and was a hybrid who might be more dangerous than powerful. I didn’t want to think too much about everything that could follow mom’s unexpected confession. I had just given birth… Surely, this wasn’t the way to welcome a child into the family. But I knew that my questions needed answers, and she had merely delivered, and made good on a promise made long ago – a promise made with blood. I cast Paulina a look, and she offered me a comforting smile. “Did you know?” I asked before averting my eyes, feeling like this was too much. I didn’t know what to say or do…. and it was hard for me to accept that the two people who had stood by me through everything
Jade’s pov: I might not know what was going on, but I knew that whatever mom was going to say was big… I could feel that it would be some kind of earth shattering revelation, which might just wreck my world all over again. I wasn’t sure I could handle anything, considering I had just given birth, but I knew that there was no helping it. I wanted to know the truth more than I needed my next breath. “Your dad loved you dearly… and so do I. You know that, right?” Mom began, her eyes glassy, but refusing to stop or look me in the eyes. “We would have happily gone to hell for you.” “Mom, you’re scaring me,” I gulped down my dread and anxiety. “Just tell me what’s wrong please.” “Nothing’s wrong,” she shook her head negatively. “You’re just coming into your legacy, sweetheart.” What legacy? I was tempted to echo after her, but was too hurt, numb, and confused to speak up. What was she on about? I couldn’t bear the suspense, and yet I wasn’t sure I was ready for whatever she was about
Alex’s pov: Even though I was shaken up, and looking anxiously at the damned red circle every few seconds, I knew what needed to be done, and I had to act quickly. Jade appeared to be peacefully asleep to any onlooker, but not only did I trust Paulina’s assessment, but I also could tell that her heartbeat was growing weaker. “You’re not leaving me,” I mumbled, more to myself than anyone else, but that had the knack to make my parents look at me. Paulina told me I needed to give blood to my beloved Jade, and Anna had told me that I needed to kiss her. And it was therefore with no hesitation whatsoever that I let my beastly fangs protrude, to my parents’ horror. “What’s going on?” My dad rose to his feet, seemingly ready to intervene. Thankfully, Luc handled him well, and said simply, “Let’s trust Alpha Xander.” The looks mom was sending me were of abject worry. Lucille’s eyes, however, were tender and trusting. She even nodded at me for some reason. And then, I was sinking
