Absconding

"Run, Run Kim, and ne…ver look back," Kimberley's mother stuttered in her last words.

"What mother? Where do I run to? This is our home," Kimberley choked on her tears.

"Leave Los Angeles,we ha…ve a trai…tor amo…ngst us. Take this also, you will ne…ed it." Her mother managed to say as she passed the key to Akron to her.

The key to Akron held one of the most powerful relics in the world and they used it to keep themselves safe from other Packs. But this time around, the betrayer was an insider.

When she moved to confess who it was, her breaths became frail.

"Mother, mother, you can't die yet, let's leave now," Tears streamed down Kimberly's face as raw fear coursed down her spine.

She was scared to see her mother at her weakest point but she knew the inevitable since the sharp blade had pierced her mother in two regions.

Makayla Thompson, the Luna of Cross moon pack, breathed her last.

"Mother," Kimberley screeched as she felt her mother's body go limp in her hands.

She broke down into uncontrollable tears. Her mother had just promised to show her how to control her powers two days ago before the full moon tomorrow.

They had a lot to achieve since she had gotten to the age where she needed to know how to use her powers positively.

However, Louis Reynolds, a young and wicked powerful warrior had conquered their Kingdom in one night.

Makayla had almost won the battle when the warrior engaged a much more powerful magic which made her mother lose her balance. Then he struck her in her stomach.

Her mother was gone, her father had long been gone. Now she was alone in this world. An orphan.

"I will take over the Pack and avenge my mother's death. I will also find the traitor amongst us." Kimberley announced to the chiefs.

"Never! We won't support this! You are too young for it," One of the chiefs argued.

She was stunned. Why were they rejecting her outrightly? Weren't these the same chiefs who supported her mother during her reign? Were they not the ones who her mother lost her precious life for?

"Why?" She asked in confusion.

"Your mother was Luna, look where it brought us, she lost her life in a battle. It has never been heard before!" another chief stood up against her.

"My mother lost her life trying to protect us all! How dare you say that about her!" Kimberley raged. They were spewing trash.

"If we were led by a man, we wouldn't have lost to that warrior! I am not in support also." Her mother's right-hand chief stood up.

Kimberley's eyes widened in surprise.

"Ledger, you too?"

She had thought he'd be on her side since he was on her mother's. However, the chief ignored her and joined his colleagues.

"With your inexperience, if we get attacked again, we might be wiped off, let someone else do it. Please," another council chief stood up in protest.

Only one was left on her side. This looked like a gang-up to her. Kimberley was too stunned to speak. She swallowed hard.

"You are not in support of my reign? You all seem to have concluded. Then who would lead us? Tell me!" She yelled at them.

"I will," a voice she had never expected in her wildest dreams replied to her from behind. Kimberley turned around to regard him.

"Matt?" She widened.

He descended the stairs towards her. Kimberley blinked twice in surprise.

"Yes, do you not see me fit to rule in your stead?' He smirked.

It was all getting clearer. Kimberly turned back to the chiefs who had gone to Matt's side immediately. The remaining chief came to hers.

"It's seven against two, Kimberly. Let's not sweat it out please," Matt grinned at her devilishly.

"Matt? What are you doing? This is a revolt." She finally found her voice.

"I am only doing what is right. The Pack needs to be protected and we need someone capable. You can't even use your powers well, how can you protect us?" He asked sarcastically.

"I won't give up my mother's throne, you selfish, deceitful conceited bastard!" Kimberly cursed as her eyes flashed.

"You would, Kimberly. Because unlike who you take me to be, I am not selfish. I have a better proposition for you," he said as he approached her.

The chiefs watched on. This was a battle between the both of them.

"You will marry me, Kimberly," he said in low words when he got in front of her.

"You must be a fool to think that I would get married to you! I won't get married until I find out who sold us out to the enemy!" She glared at him.

Matt erupted into a peal of wicked laughter.

"My chiefs, she's proving stubborn. Should I tell her of our plans?" He turned to them.

Amusement twinkled in his eyes. They sneered at her.

"Well, that is your only option, my dear. You either get married to me or you leave. Anyway, I'd get the throne. That's the positive side of all these," He growled.

Kimberley flinched.

"Think about this as a good deed. I will be the alpha and you will be my Luna. You will rule by my side. Moreover, the chiefs are on my side, you have just one stubborn loss behind you. Think well," he pointed to the chief behind her.

"If I were you, I'd jump at the offer immediately. You won't lose anything at all." Matt shrugged. "No! Over my body will I marry you!" Kimberley was irritated.

Tears rose to Kimberely's face. This betrayal from the men her mother had protected hit her badly.

"Now, get away from my throne," Matt pushed her to the side as he took his seat on the golden throne.

"You still have till tomorrow to think about it. Once I am crowned, there will be no time to rethink it," Matt said.

Kimberley knew all was lost. She couldn't win against them even if she tried. She had become an Omega, stripped from her position as a royal wolf. She knew she had to leave so she would come back to win her Pack someday when she could control her powers.

"I will come back, Matt! Someday, I will rule over my father's kingdom!" Kimberley engaged in a disappearing act her mother had taught her when she was seven.
