—LYSANDRA’s POV.

“You don’t have much time left.” Lyeon, the pack’s most trusted doctor reveals and I feel my breath hitch.

“There’s no way to sugarcoat dying, Luna Lysandra, so I’ll be honest. Your wolf is fading,”

I grip the sheets beneath me and look at the old man in front of me.

“What?” I say, my voice trembling

“There is damage to your bond with your fated mate," He says very carefully like I might shatter right there. "It's the prolonged betrayal from your mate, it has weakened your wolf bond beyond repair. And it will worsen over time and take everything from you if it continues.”

Lyeon looks at me pitifully and it kills me. I hate sympathy. But lately I've been a magnet for it.

I heave a breath, fluttering my eyes to shoo my tears away.

It's no news that my husband of seven years, and Alpha of the Shadowmoon pack is severing our bond as fated mates by fucking his mistress.

My marriage has been tragic since the very first day; and has become worse since Eliza Crowe showed up, Edric’s childhood best friend. While I am nothing more than someone to throw away and the daughter of a nobody, since I am basically an orphan, Eliza is the daughter of a respected and powerful beta in the pack and is adored by almost everyone.

My husband's sexcapades have earned me whispered names I never asked for— failed woman, omega wearing a Luna's skin, fright to other women. Monster.

Everyone treats me like garbage. I am a Luna in title only, empty as a barrel with no real power.

Everyone acknowledges his cheating because to them I have 'withered'.

I'm sick of looking into my own reflection and feeling horror at how thin and worn I've become.

I turn to Lyeon and swallow the lump in my throat.

“How much time do I have left?”

He sighs. “A month,”

I hold my breath.

“But,” he interjects immediately. “You can have more time than a month if you stop Alpha Edric!: betrayal.”

I swallow again because how on earth is that possible?.

I leave the infirmary and with my medical report in hand, I make it back to the pack house with the heaviest heart. I don’t want to die yet. I can’t die yet.

I need to tell Edric.

The house is almost empty and cold as I make my way in. A few servants are by the courtyard and they pass me little sneers before I make my way around the yard and make it into the living area.

The house is oddly quiet as I make my way up the brief stairs to our bedroom to look for Edric. My search abruptly comes to an end when I hear muffled noises from my matrimonial bedroom.

My heart starts to pound to the point where I taste metal in my mouth as I take multiple steps towards it.

The door looks shut from afar but standing in front of it I can clearly see it was not properly shut, the beam of light in the room is threatening to spill from the narrow opening.

It’ll be stupid to knock, knowing what is happening, so I just push the door open and the muffled noises hit the air. Moans that are so loud it’s screeching in my ears.

My eyes land on my husband’s naked body before seeing the woman he's thrusting below him.

Eliza Crowe. She is sprawled on the bed, her blond hair ruffled on my favorite pillow, and my husband’s fingers are gripping her flushed left breast a little too hard.

Fucking Eliza.

To everyone, she’s Edric’s childhood friend, the daughter of Beta Alex Crowe, one of the pack’s council elders, and a well-respected man. But I’ve known better.

My hands are shaking and my gut clearly has fumes in it.

Edric spots me at the same time Eliza does and that’s when she proceeds to arch her back and moan so loud, gripping the sheets the same time my husband keeps his gaze on me as he grinds the woman further, slamming against her like a wild beast.

“Stop it…” I find my voice, but instead of stopping, they continue intensely and I catch a delighted smirk on Eliza’s face.

“Stop!” I yell and Edric freezes before huffing out a scoff like I just slapped him.

“What the fuck do you want?” Edric slams, glaring at me, it’s scary how his eyes that held so much ecstasy just now, are crazily capable of looking down at me disgustingly.

“I have something to tell you,” I say, my voice trembling.

Edric looks angry, but then a smug smile plays on his lips. He looks.. amused.

“You have something to tell me?” He looks disoriented, but that mocking gaze of his is making me want to die. How dare he think of me with so little regard?

“Yes, in private.”

I nod sternly, and he turns to Eliza.

“Leave.” He orders sternly.

Eliza scoffs. “B-but we’ve yet to c-

“Leave!” He repeats lividly.

Eliza huffs out a breath and reluctantly covers her naked body with the duvet before leaving the room and slamming her shoulder against mine as she walks out.

It hurts.

I turn to Edric and he takes a seat as he throws on his shirt. Like I don’t deserve to see him.

“What do you have to say, Lysandra? You'd better have something important to tell me considering how much of my time you just stole,” he sneers.

I fist my fingers as I say.

“I want you to stop having sex with Eliza,”

He scoffs, staring at me ridiculously, like a bug that just perched on his arm.

He tilts his head and his mocking tone wafts through the air as he asks. “Why? Has our little omega Luna finally decided she wants a little respect?”

I grit my teeth in anger and hold my breath.

“No. It’s because I’m dying…”

—LYSANDRA--The trek across the border territory is dead silent, swallowed by the cold midnight air. Shadow is trailing exactly fifty paces behind us in the treeline.Gemma walks close beside me, her steps nervous and light, unable to hide her unease as we tread onto Shadowmoon soil. The night is dark, but I spot him immediately, that short and silhouetted figure I’d always recognize even from a thousand miles away.Dr. Lyeon is waiting exactly where the letter indicated: under the half-collapsed stone archway near the outer boundary. His silhouette is gone, and I finally take in his face. He is wrapped in a faded medical coat, looking around frantically.“Lysandra," he gasps as I approach, his voice trembling as he steps forward. "You actually came.”He is looking at me like he’s seen a ghost. "I brought the herbs," I say quickly, pulling the heavy leather bag from beneath my cloak and shoving it in his hands. "All fresh from our infirmary”Lyeon holds the bag, but he doesn't imm

—LYSANDRA——"My lady? What's wrong? What does it say? "Gemma’s voice floats toward me, but the words sound like they are muffled underwater. I can’t comprehend them. I can’t process the sound of her breath or if it’s the rustle of her dress. My eyes are locked onto the dark ink on the thick paper, staring at the sharp, erratic cursive that I recognize all too well.My hands shake so violently the words blur and I find myself staring ahead and into space.Seeing the way I’m trembling, from the corner of my eyes I notice Gemma snapping into action. She looks past my shoulder and raises her hand, calling out to one of the guards standing very far from us. "You! Go fetch Alpha Maddox immediately, tell him something is—""No!"The sharp edge in my voice jolts us both. I grab Gemma’s wrist, pulling her back before the guard can run off. I force my chest to stop heaving, swallowing hard as I stare at her wide eyes.“Stay.” I say to the guard and then to Gemma."It's nothing," I lie, my voi

—LYSANDRA——“The flowers go there, the deep pink ones go to the far corner of the ballroom, and make sure the silver drapes are perfectly aligned,” I direct, my voice carrying a heavy authority. The servants handling the decorations nod with eager enthusiasm, executing my orders seamlessly. Watching them move gives me a quiet surge of joy.I love doing this. I love taking charge of projects that force my mind off the things— and people— that have been bugging me.And heaven knows I have been thoroughly bugged. My mind is constantly caught in a crossfire between my ex-husband's toxic shadow and the intimidating Alpha Demitry who suddenly wants to marry me for reasons best known to his own enigmatic self.Thinking back, I’m incredibly glad I managed to handle Demitry on a softer note the day he came with that sudden proposal. When he got irritated and claimed I still smelled like Edric, it felt like an unfair accusation— but I seized it as the perfect excuse to shut the whole convers

—EDRIC pov—- I ball my fist until my knuckles turn white as I let out an uncomfortable grunt, exhibiting the frustration in my mind as I sit alone in my study, trying to understand what lies ahead in my darn life. I am restless. It’s nothing new but it’s making me livid. I am starving.Starved of her presence and what we shared the day I went to Ironcrest to have a word with her, because I couldn’t go another day without thinking of my mouth on her skin. And turns out she was also feeling the same way. My satisfaction was met but, I am insatiable and I want her. Just her. For the past week, I have tried to drown myself in Eliza. I have taken her against the wall, on the desk, in our bed, trying to force my wolf to accept the substitute. But it is never enough. Every time I touch her, every time I bury myself inside her, a sickening wave of rejection ripples through my veins. My wolf snarls at her scent, completely disgusted by the lack of the fated bond. It is weird because none

—LYSANDRA--Unlike my monstrous and bed-ridden appearance, Demitry Kolvx appears to be in the opposite attire from me; a fine tailored attire that matches his demeanor, which screams the aura of a commander— and a little bit of mischievousness under those thick brows of his.He doesn’t look startled by my grand, disheveled entrance. And his smile is warm and incredibly annoying because the massive chunk of the fiery, defensive energy I was ready to unleash on him drains completely out of my chest. He doesn’t look like a threat; he looks like a man genuinely happy to see me. But what gives? I don’t know this man, and I don’t want to know him.Sure, he’s good looking and hot and is probably toned under his shirts and all but no…I force my walls back up, refusing to let a handsome face soften my resolve."Ah, Lysandra," he murmurs, his voice, a smooth and deep tone that seems to vibrate through the quiet hall. He takes a step toward me, his eyes tracing my bewildered face and entire

—LYSANDRA—-It’s been days, probably a week since Edric visited and my mind can still play out of what we had. I really don’t want to be thinking about him right now or any day but Every time I close my eyes, my mind betrays me, playing back the raw, frantic details of what we did on this very mattress. I am very silly. Honestly, I didn’t know I had this side of me. I can still feel his warm mouth dragging across my breast, the scraping heat of his teeth on my neck, and the heavy, crushing weight of his body pinning me down.My body is satisfied. Naya is quiet, thoroughly sated by the mating energy she craved for. But I hate it. I hate every single second of it. I smell like him, his scent is all over me.The bond between us has snapped back to life, tighter and more demanding than before right after the sex. It is so strong now that I can weirdly still taste the dark, woody ash of his scent on the back of my tongue. I want to hate him. I should hate him, and I do, but my mental s

—LYSANDRA’s POV-Edric looks at me the same way one would look at a child throwing an unnecessary tantrum and proceeds to scoff. “You,” he begins with a snarl. “Always looking for ways to get my attention when I am in the middle of something important. Always”I want to roll my eyes, but I don’t.
