LOGINVeldana’s POVA new face appeared in the room. But, she was looking at me like she knew me. Like I mattered to her. And like she was about to do something she did not want to. “Hey, Vel,” she greeted coming closer to me.“Um... hi,” I replied fighting the urge to shrink away from her. Who was she? I tried to remember. There was a familiarity but I really did not know. Who was she?“Do you know who I am?” She asked and I could tell the answer meant a lot to her. I wish I could give her some reassurance but I could not.“I am sorry but no. I am sure I can learn though,” I added and she gasped and threw her arms around me in a soft hug.“Gosh, Vel, you always have to make me worry, don’t you?” She asked sniffing back tears. I wanted to hug her back but I did not know her.Maurice and Fred came in while she was hugging me and they both looked worried.“How are you feeling?” The lady asked.“Okay. How about you?” I noticed she was wearing a hospital gown too. What happened to her?“Better
Maurice’s POVI never thought I would be nervous to kiss her but I started to close the minute gap between us, my heart raced in a way it hadn’t for years. It would have taken a nanosecond for our lips to touch but the door opened and I found myself jerking back and standing in a millisecond. What was wrong with me? I was acting like a teenager with a crush.“Maurice, we need to talk,” Fred said as he came in but he paused once he entered the room. He looked from my annoyed face to Vel’s flushed one and his expression changed from confusion to amusement. “Why do I feel like I was disturbing something?” He asked enjoying the moment. “Was I?”“Yes,” I answered.“No,” Vel said at the same time and I glared at her playfully making her blush more furiously before looking away.“Well then, I need you outside for a moment.”“I will be back soon,” I promised Vel and she nodded with a shy smile.God, she was perfect.“What’s wrong?” I asked once we were outside and the door was closed securely
Veldana’s POVLeila was asleep on the couch after telling me all about the lady she met downstairs during the walk she shared with Fred, who I learned was Maurice’s brother and business partner. Maurice, himself was off somewhere so I had a minute to myself. Come to think of it, he had barely spent any time alone with me since I woke up. Usually either the doctor or Leila was there like a buffer between us. I was glad for it because it meant I did not have to remember anything yet. It all felt so odd. I had no idea who I was but somehow, I had a daughter and a husband. A very beautiful daughter and a very handsome husband, I blushed a little at the later part. It felt surreal. Plus, nobody was talking about how I had ended up in a hospital. I should ask but where was Maurice?I saw the TV remote and turned on the TV. It was on a channel showing a movie. I watched for a while but ultimately found it uninteresting. It was too science-fiction. Did I always not like sci-fi? I changed t
Maurice’s POV“She really cannot remember?” Fred questioned looking as shocked as I felt.“She can't.”“What did the doctor say?”“That he would run some tests. They are doing that now.”“And what will you be doing in the meantime?”“Taking care of my mate,” it felt so satisfying to say. When she called me her mate 2 hours ago, a million different emotions ran through me. It was like stepping through time. Anxiety, fear, confusion and most of all, hope. It was like being given a second chance. I did not know if I deserved it and up until it came to me, I was not even sure I wanted it. But if she truly did not remember then we could be together again. All the hatchet of the past buried.“You are not going to correct her?” Fred asked.A better man would. But I just could not see how that would make anything better. This way we could be our old selves. This way, she did not betray me and I did not make her life miserable. This way, we were perfect. Before I could reply Fred, the doctor c
Veldana’s POVMy head felt very heavy and the light was bright. I could hear people talking but could not really hear the words. Where was I?” I wondered but then darkness pulled me under.I could hear a soft voice sniffling beside me and then a deeper one trying to console the person. A man? What was happening and why was everywhere going dark again?Bright light. So bright. Everywhere was spinning really badly and someone was screaming. “She will be fine, she has to be!” The person said sounding panicked.“We told you, 72 hours and it is much past that. The fact that there has been no improvement…”“But there has been. She is breathing on her own!”“Sir, that makes no…”“Mummy?” A softer voice whispered when I attempted to open my eyes and every other voice quieted. “Mummy?” I tried to open my eyes again to see who was speaking but the light was too bright so I sucked in a breath and closed my eyes again. “Mummy, wake up,” the person sniffed and it pulled at my heart so I opened my
Maurice’s POVI checked the elevator first and saw it was on the first floor. We were on the 12th, she could not have used it. I looked around the VIP floor next and ended up at the nurse’s station. “Hi, have you seen a little girl pass through here?” I asked the nurse at the station and she shook her head. I was about to walk away when I remembered, “Do you have cameras?”“We are not allowed to show you that unless you’re the police.”“That is fine but can you check where she went?”“And who is she to you?”“My daughter. My mate is admitted here,” the words came out of me before I could stop them and while it spurred the woman into action, it made me take a moment to think about what I just said. My mate. My daughter.“It seems she wet in the stairwell. The camera’s there are not working at the moment so…”“Thank you,” I cut her off and went to the stairwell. “Leila!” I called and there was no answer.“Leila!” Still nothing, I considered my options, I could go up or down. Looking do
