Caspian's POV

I felt the bile rise in my throat as I listened to him talk. It was obvious that he had already planned this entire proposed speech of how great his pack was before my arrival.

Every word sounded like a bragging right for him, his laughter tickling the anger in my chest as I tried to keep my emotions at bay.

This was all the fault of Derek. I wonder why I allowed him convince me that this family would be worth marrying into.

Just a few minutes in and I was already feeling irked.

"I would also think that it would be a great thing for us to collaborate once in a while you know? Especially in the aspect of the communication sector among alphas and...."

He was still rambling on when that scent hit my nose. At first it was almost unnoticeable, just that gentle whiff that caused my wolf to stand at high alert, my usually calm wolf twitching in my chest as its pacing grew faster.

What was that scent?

I turned around to look, tuning out the Alpha that was now talking about how his daughter was the best woman for me.

The scent was drawing closer now, almost like it was coming to me, and with each whiff, my wolf paced louder, got more disorganized, the hums in my head ringing.

What the hell?

It got closer and closer until, she was standing in front of me.

I did not meet her eyes first. My eyes first trailed around her body the closer she drew to me, my throat stuck with words.

She was a chubby woman, her breasts beautifully round and her face drenched in sweat as she fluttered her eyelashes at me.

My wolf howled as our eyes met.

" Mate!!"

I grimaced.

She was a plus size woman.

A mate? How could I get a second chance mate and a plus size woman at that?

What trickery was the moon goddess trying to play now?

I saw the fear and confusion in her eyes but surprisingly, she masked it all perfectly.

Hm. Impressive.

She walked again, this time, towards the table, her scent so close now I felt like reaching out and leaving my mark on her immediately.

I groaned at my wolf internally.

" Fucking keep it together"

" Why are you the one serving fruits? What did I tell you about showing your face in front of important guests?" Alpha jacobi said.

I watched his eyes light with disgust and fury, perhaps embarrassment as he stared at her like she was a disgrace.

I cleared my throat, my wolf begging me to stand up for her but I refused.

Why would I do that?

The moon goddess decided to play such a trick on me by giving me a plus size mate? Well then, I will just ignore the whole goddamn bond.

" Who is she?" I asked instead, that quiet curiousity about this woman building.

She stood there, small and staring at the ground like she hoped it would open and swallow her where she stood.

Alpha Jacob eyes lit up with irritation for another minute before he hummed.

" She is Amara's twin sister. Quite the opposite you know. She is everything bad that Amara is not. I wonder how two sisters became so different"

Those words stung me specially, like I could feel her pain even though we have not activated the mating bond yet.

She bowed her head in shame, muttering something about her being needed in the kitchen as she scrambled off.

My eyes followed her until she turned the corner and vanished from my line of sight, taking that beautiful scent of hers with her.

Alpha Jacob tried to call back into conversation but by now, my mind was far from everything he was saying.

I kept looking back, expecting her to bolt back in any minute and stay close to me, my wolf just wanting her scent all over me.

" Here she is! My beautiful jewel!" Alpha Jacob exclaimed drawing me back to the present.

My eyes fell on the woman I was supposed to marry.

She was gorgeous to say the least. A beautiful smile that widened across her face,  body that seemed to have been sculpted by the moon goddess herself and that innocent touch in her eyes.

Alpha Jacob laughed heartily.

" I knew you would love her. My daughter is one of the prettiest women in the world I tell you" he said, boasting as he stared her down in admiration.

She was beautiful, there was no denying that.

But somehow, I still found myself being drawn to that certain plus size woman that has caused my chest to beat with rhythm for the first time in a long time.

" Good evening Alpha Caspian. It's nice to finally meet you" she said in a sweet voice, bowing her head gently.

" Can you excuse me? I have to use the bathroom" I said instead, ignoring her greetings and getting up.

My nose followed that trail of scent she had left behind, feeling it grow stronger with each second that passed, every step drawing me closer and closer to her.

I passed a few servants, listening to them whisper excitedly about me as they bowed.

" That's Alpha Caspian!" One of them said out loud.

Finally, the scent intensified in a dark hallway and there she was, hunched under the cover of the darkness, sobbing.

My heart broke.

My wolf wanted to reach out and stroke her head to comfort her but I held it in place.

" Why are you crying? I have not even told you that you are not my type yet but you are already crying?"

She jerked up, her eyes wide with surprise as she took a small step back, falling over her feet before she struggled to get up again, her eyes wide with tears.

She swallowed.

" You don't have to prolong it. You can just say it now. The rejection vow" she said.

I stared at her for a minute.

" You want me to reject you?" I closed the distance between us slowly, our eyes meeting before she tore it away from mine like merely looking at me was a sin.

She swallowed, eyes staring down.

" If it's what you want, then sure"

What I want?

My wolf growled, control leaving my fingers for a minute, body hungering for her.

My hands wrapped around her neck, puking her in and crashing my lips on hers..
