KANE’S POV

It was a quiet touch, but it said everything we couldn’t.

Ivy was still scared. But she wasn’t running anymore, she was choosing to stay with me.

Down here, beneath stone and history, I felt the weight of something ancient stir, something inevitable.

“You need rest,” I said finally, my voice lower than before. “More than you need answers right now.”

She didn’t argue, though her eyes lingered on the tapestry, the silver wolf beneath the broken moon.

But just as I turned to lead her away, her body swayed.

“Ivy….”

“I’m fine,” she breathed, gripping the edge of the stone wall but her knuckles were white.

She wasn’t fine.

Her strength was still fragile, and pushing it wouldn’t help. Whatever was happening inside her, it was burning through energy faster than her body could restore it.

I caught her before she could fall and scooped her into my arms. She stiffened, out of pride or surprise, I couldn’t tell but she didn’t protest.

“I can walk,” she muttered weakly.

“I know,” I said

The scream pierced the early dawn like a blade.I felt it before I heard it. It was terror, sharp and raw, crashing into my chest like a blow. I was already moving, the threads of starlight still weaving through my limbs from the sleepless night. Kane burst through the war hall doors ahead of me, every step sharp with purpose. My feet barely touched the ground as I followed, the remnants of the Moon Goddess’s gift simmering in my veins.Inside the chamber, the atmosphere thickened. My presence stirred something silent, something wary the warriors gathered around the stone table. I didn’t blame them. I hardly recognized myself now.A scout stumbled in, blood running freely down the side of his face. “They’ve broken through the southern ridge…”Kane’s voice was a whip. “How many?”“Hundreds,” the scout rasped. “More. Alpha… they’ve brought beasts, constructs, war things. I’ve never…”“Alert Captain Rurik now. Blackfangs to the ridge.” Kane cut inThe scout vanished. I stepped closer to

IVY’S POVThe night before the storm felt like the earth itself was holding its breath. The wind barely moved, whispering soft and low like secrets I wasn’t supposed to hear. From the top of Nightfall’s northern watchtower, I stood still— wrapped in silence, not armor. The banners below stirred lazily, frayed and battered by time and war, and above me, the stars blinked like cautious eyes in the dark. But it wasn’t the horizon I watched. It was the shift inside me.A low, humming pulse had taken root beneath my skin. Since Derick, it had been different— sharper, louder, almost… alive. It didn’t just thrum anymore. It burned. It coiled like a flame behind my ribs, and each beat of my heart felt like it fed it. This wasn’t power anymore. It was hunger. It scared me— how wild it was. How natural it felt. And I didn’t know if it still belonged to me… or if I now belonged to it.A gust of wind slammed against the tower, whipping strands of hair into my face. Then… silence. No wind, no move

The war hall was quieter now. Not silent because no place had been truly silent since Derick’s betrayal. But the wild frenzy that had once pulsed through Nightfall’s heart had begun to settle into something steadier. Still bruised, still uncertain but steadier. The heavy doors creaked every so often as warriors filtered in and out, their movements less frantic now, more deliberate. Maps were still unfurled. Swords still lay sharpened across stone tables. But the madness of panic had begun to give way to the somber rhythm of preparation. The kind of rhythm born only in the shadow of something too large to run from.Outside, Ivy stood at the edge of the barracks courtyard, arms folded across her chest, watching the warriors train beneath the pale silver sun. A thin sheen of mist clung to the air, casting a ghostly glow over the yard. The clashing of steel rang out sharp and brutal. Feet pounded into the dirt with mechanical precision. Grunts echoed in unison with the sound of impact of

The mountain air was biting cold, but the tension that gripped the courtyard made it feel suffocating. A crescent moon hung above like a silent witness, casting pale light over the silent stone walls. The guards stationed at the outer perimeter had been dismissed for the night under Kane’s command. This confrontation had to remain quiet, at least for now. Kane stood alone beneath the shadow of the ancient ash tree, his cloak billowing slightly with the wind. Ivy waited just out of sight behind the armory archway, watching the darkened path from the eastern wing where Derick’s quarters lay. Her heart thundered. Every part of her wanted to be beside Kane, but this was his moment first. He needed to see Derick, like truly see him for what he was. Footsteps echoed. Derick emerged from the corridor, still wearing his command leathers. His eyes narrowed slightly at the sight of Kane standing alone. “Up late, Alpha?” he said casually, stepping forward, hands folded behind his back. Ka

AUTHOR’S POVThe forest surrounding Nightfall had grown colder, though no winter clouds grayed the skies. It wasn’t the wind that chilled the bones of the warriors patrolling the perimeter, it was the quiet. A stillness that seemed to breathe, like the forest itself was holding its breath. Even the birds had gone silent. In the heart of Nightfall, war preparations consumed every waking hour. Blades clashed in endless drills, sentries rotated with increasing urgency, and smoke from forge fires filled the mountain air. Yet beneath the frenzy, something more insidious slithered in the shadows. And no one suspected Derick. Two nights before the blood moon, Derick had summoned General Marek alone.General Marek had served Nightfall for nearly two decades. A stoic, broad-shouldered warrior with scars mapping the history of every battle he’d survived. Loyal to Kane without question, he was the kind of soldier who would follow his Alpha into fire without blinking. But tonight, he rode alone.

AUTHOR’S POV The war drums of Nightfall were silent that morning, but the air itself seemed to hum with an uneasy rhythm. A messenger from Ironwood had arrived at dawn— an envoy draped in pale silks, bearing a scroll sealed with crimson wax. The moment the seal was broken, tension rippled through the pack like a shockwave. Kane stood at the head of the long war table, the scroll unrolled in his hands. His jaw was set, his expression unreadable as his sharp eyes scanned the words written in Lawrence’s elegant, venomous script. Ivy stood beside him, her arms folded, watching his reaction with quiet unease. “What does it say?” Elder Thorne asked, his voice gravelly with age and apprehension. Kane’s voice was low and controlled, but every word he spoke carried the weight of steel. “He demands we surrender Ivy. He claims her celestial power belongs to Ironwood by ancient bloodright. He gives us until the next full moon to comply… or he declares war.” A murmur broke through the counci
