KANE’S POV

The sun hadn’t broken through the clouds, and maybe that was for the best.

The halls were quiet when I returned to the upper floor…. too quiet.

Ivy hadn’t moved from where I left her perched at the window like a shadow of herself, arms drawn tightly around her knees. She didn’t turn when I entered, she didn’t even flinch.

“You’re not safe in that room.”

Her eyes flicked toward me. “It’s the only place I’m allowed to be.”

I took a step forward. “I didn’t ask what the Council allowed.”

“You should care. They’re your people.”

“They’re my advisors,” I said sharply. “Not my leash.”

She stood slowly, but didn’t come closer. “So what happens now? You lock me in tighter? Pretend I’m not glowing like a ticking bomb?”

I crossed the room in two strides. “No,” I said. “Get dressed. You’re coming with me.”

She froze. “To where?” She asked looking puzzled

“To the training ring.”

Her brows snapped together. “You can’t. The Elders…”
