Grady P.O.V.

“No, Kaia. Contrary to common opinion here, I do not in fact flicker from woman to woman. This is my little sister, Becky. She is mated to River, and is by default the Gamma female of the pack.” I reply to the fuming female. “Becks, this is Kaia. She is mated to Adrian, who is alright by the way. Not that you asked, but he wanted you to know for some reason.” I’m done with her attitude. “And this is Haze, but you surely remember her? Lily, who you briefly heard mentioned, is Hazel's daughter.” Becky’s sharp eyes snap to Hazel’s.

“You have a daughter?” Hazel nods. “How?”

“I don’t see how that is of importance.” My mate responds, once again evading the question.

“Because I know for a fact my brother feels a whole and intact matebond with you, and that is impossible if you cheated on it with some stranger. Even during such a long period away from each other.” Hazel swallows, and then she smiles.

“You are just as I remember, Becky.” She says kindly. “Lily is my sister's b

  • The Alpha's Runaway Luna    The zen spot

Adrian P.O.V.Hearing the story of my mate broke my heart. I had always wanted my fated mate. Just like Grady, and even the ever grumpy River, we’ve always been told stories and shown how great the fated matebond is by our parents and grandparents. Grady was so deliriously happy when he found out Hazel was his mate. I snapped a photo of her on the morning of her birthday, sending it to him because he was obsessed with her, and he decided to explore himself after that. He doesn’t think I know, but I do. He followed her when she went from her home to school. When he came back he was floating. That’s when I knew for sure he had found his mate. The look in his eyes, the skip in his step. He asked River of all the people in the pack to deliver her a note. I was a little bummed it wasn’t me he asked, but I shrugged it off. When he came back that night I was waiting in the living room to congratulate them both, but he came alone absolutely crushed. He didn’t want to talk right then, so I wa

  • The Alpha's Runaway Luna    Kaia's story

Kaia P.O.V. “Growing up as the Beta’s daughter was tough. But growing up as the Beta’s daughter who is expected to know and do everything her big brother can, was even worse.” I swallow a lump in my throat. I never thought I would have to revisit these dreaded memories again, but I guess here we are. Hazel deserves me to do my best, and I deserve a clean break. “Maybe we should do this with everyone present? It would help if the Gamma and Joel knew too.” Grady’s eyes cloud over, and he says they’ll be here in a second. I just stare at the table until the door opens, Hazel’s hand on my back, rubbing soothing circles. I can feel Adrian over the matebond, and what I feel is slight frustration, which confuses me. ‘I’m not frustrated with you, Kaia. I’m frustrated with the situation and I want to be the one to calm you down, but right now I’m not that person. I’m sorry if that sounds selfish, but you are my mate and it’s hard to see anyone else, even my future Luna, be your comfort pers

  • The Alpha's Runaway Luna    Not taking the bait

Kaia P.O.V.Hazel is a sweetheart to warn me about the falsities of the female in the doorway, but she hadn’t needed to warn me. An idiot would have seen through her acting from a mile away. Maybe not, but to me it was very obvious. “What the fuck.” Adrian says, turning his head to the woman. He sounds and looks completely confused, and I just sigh inwardly. “What are you doing, baby?” The woman asks, taking a step into the room, which has gone eerie quiet now. Adrian ignores her and turns his head to me instead, his eyes wide with fear. “Kaia, I swear I don’t know her.” He says, reaching over the table and grabbing my hand. I let him, letting the sparks from the matebond travel both our hands and arms. I know he is telling the truth, and I know by now that Adrian is very different from my ex-mate. Had it been him to say that to me I would have wondered if it was true or not, but not now. “Uhm, excuse me?!” The woman sneers, coming over and glaring at me.

  • The Alpha's Runaway Luna    Initiation time

Hazel P.O.V. “Miss Dalton, Miss Callum, welcome.” The Elder says with a kind smile. “My name is Elder Maxwell, and I am going to be overseeing the ceremony today.” We both bow in respect, Lily following us as best as she can. He smiles, sitting down and looking at Lily. “What do you say we welcome your aunt into the pack first, Lily, and then you see what we have to do?” He asks kindly. Lily nods, kinda hiding in my dress. He nods and stands again. “Kaia, if you’d please come here?” Grady says seriously, beckoning her over. She swallows and looks at me. ‘You owe me after this!’ She links, and I chuckle. I do owe her. But I owe her for much more than being initiated into a new pack. She has been alone for a long time, and now she has to finally let her old pack go for good. I know how hard this is on her, but I also know her determination to make this work for me and Lily. She is the very best friend in the whole world! “I, Kaia Callum, daughter of former Beta Terrace and Kristina

  • The Alpha's Runaway Luna    Lily's pace

Hazel P.O.V.“Mama, mama, mama..” Lily’s happy voice echoes in my ears. I open one eye and see its light outside. She is bouncing on the bed beside me, and Kaia is smirking in the doorway with a cut of steaming something in it. I bet it’s coffee. “I’m up, sweets. Good morning.” Lily throws herself at me with a squeal. I catch her with a laugh, tickling her and enjoying her laughter. “How long has she been awake?” I ask Kaia, who blows on her beverage. I smell it now - definitely coffee. That traitor didn’t even take a cup with her for me. “At least an hour.” I groan, looking at the clock on the nightstand - 6.45am. “I’m so sorry.” Kaia waves her hand, smiling as she looks at the happy Lily. I smile back at her, committing this time to memory and in my heart. Who knows how many of these quiet moments we’ll get just the three of us.“Mama, uggi Jo?” I smile at my child. She might be almost 5, but she does not have a lot of language. Kaia and I have a feeling she might be on the spec
