“I can’t believe you are doing this to me! Let’s see what Dad will say once he finds out you kidnapped me! You moron,” I snarled at him, but he seemed unbothered at all.

Instead, he closed the gap between us and gazed into my eyes. I made sure he could see the pure hatred in me. But the intensity of his gaze made me nervous. I smelled him so fine, so amazing... It reminded me of the fresh lavender field with the touch of earthy, refreshing scent of morning dew. I had to suppress myself from closing my eyes and sniffing at him.

“We both know that you can’t do that, Giselle. You are too afraid to go back to your dad, and because you are too stubborn to go back to the Sidney manor, then I have to keep you here just to make sure you are safe,” he uttered, and then his eyes went down to my stomach. “And that... thing.”

That thing.

Those words cut my heart like hot knives, and tears of anger started to burn in my eyes. “How dare you, Caden Einsworth! I want you to take me back to the city before I call the authorities.” I hissed at him threateningly between my teeth.

The arrogant grin on his face disappeared, and his eyes glinted red, which almost made me gasp. I never saw Caden get so angry before, but there was no way I would let him humiliate me like this. He couldn’t make me stay in his manor like a prisoner.

“You have no choice, Giselle. Either you stay here or you go back to your father. You choose,” he answered me with a threat.

I glared at him. I knew he was just doing it for the baby. “I hate you, Caden,” I hissed at him.

“You can hiss all you want, Giselle. But you are now inside my territory, and that means you will do whatever I say. Welcome to Highridge Pack,” he grinned at me mischievously and then signaled the head maid to accompany me to my new bedroom and left.

My knees weakened as soon as he was gone. I had no idea what I was even doing. I never wanted to see Caden or even have him around me. I started to panic inside while walking behind the headmaid. She was not a talkative person, though—a woman in her late forties who was wearing eyeglasses. She had that strict look on her face. After demonstrating my new room, she abandoned me there without mentioning her name, as if I were trash that their master picked up at random.

I couldn’t blame her, though. They didn’t know anything about me, and I had no intention of telling any of them that I was the daughter of the second-most powerful Alpha in this region. Only I left my father and the pack to save my family from a huge scandal I had with the Alpha of this Manor.

Will Caden be able to hide everything from my family?

I had no idea what his plans were. And it scares me.

*****

I didn’t sleep well last night.

The new surroundings, the new scent of the things around the room, and the new scenery made me a little wary and uncomfortable. After living in cheap apartments for over a month, I got a little used to the smell of old wooden furniture, the noise of the busy street outside, and the yelling neighbors.

Everything here was perfect. The room was painted white. Beautiful sheer curtains were hanging on the huge windows. All I could hear outside was the noise coming from the sea birds flying outside the manor. I didn’t know what to expect in this place, but there was no way I would let Caden decide things for me, even if it meant I was under his and his pack’s care.

I looked down at the crumpled white blanket and closed my eyes.

That night, I still couldn’t get it out of my head, no matter how much I convinced myself that it was all a huge mistake. But why was it so beautiful in my memory? Why did it feel like an exquisite dream instead of a nightmare?

A few knocks on the door almost made me jump, and a maid entered my room with an anxious look on her small face. She uttered nervously, “Uhm, ma'am, your breakfast is ready in the dining hall with the Alpha. He is already waiting for you. Do you need my help to get you prepared?”

“He’s waiting for me?” I asked, a little disoriented because I never thought Caden had any time to deal with my mood swings. “In the dining hall?”

“Yes, Ma’am. He told me you have to be there in ten minutes, so we better hurry.” The young maid nodded her head at me, her eyes careful not to stare too long at my face, which made me a little uncomfortable to see she was scared.

“Come here. I don’t eat people,” I smiled at her. “Let your Alpha wait.”

There was a small panic in her eyes, though, but she stepped inside my room and started preparing my bath and my clothes. I took time cleaning myself. I intended to annoy Caden and make him g*dd*mn wait until he got famished.

When I got outside the bath, there were already three maids waiting for me. All of them looked pale as they worked on my hair and helped me dress. One of them asked me to follow her to the dining hall. Her steps were small but fast. I wanted to tell her to slow down, though, but she looked terrified already, and I didn’t want to stress her more.

We entered the dining hall with a huge, annoying smile on my lips, and my eyes went straight to Caden’s face. I would never lie. I enjoyed the look on his face as he glared at me.

“What time is it already, Gisselle? Didn’t the maid tell you to get here in ten minutes?” He asked in a low voice as he suppressed his anger.

God, I like it when he’s mad.

“Well, you know I don’t live by the rules. You used to be an artist, and you know that.” I gave him an irritating smile and winked at him. I thought I saw his nose flare before he closed his eyes and calmed himself down.

It looked as if he wanted to lash out something at me, but then he decided not to and gestured for me to start having breakfast.

I raised an eyebrow at him, and we started eating in silence. Since I moved out of the Sidney Manor, I never had any proper breakfast, and having slices of bacon and eggs was just satisfying.

“I want you to go with me,” I said to him after I chewed my food, and he gave me a curious look in his eyes. “I need to go to a doctor and buy something for the baby.”

He frowned, “Isn’t that too early for that yet? I mean the baby things—”

“I know. But I don’t want to stay here the whole day doing nothing.” I grumbled and gave him a blank look on my face. “You said you would do anything for me to stay here, right? So you have to go with me for my daily check-up. That’s the deal.”

“I thought you never wanted me around you, Giselle,” he said, squinting his eyes at me with a teasing grin on his face. “What made you change your mind?”

Oh, was he challenging me? Thought he could bend me with his gorgeous grin?

There was a minute of silence between us as we stared at each other. I wish it didn't show on my face how nervous I was. Or how I adore that charming look on his face. I couldn’t let him win. He would never know what I felt about him, because that would only cause me huge heartbreak.

I knew who he wanted. And it was sad that he was only stuck with me because of the small pup he called ‘thing’ inside me.

“You wanted me here, right? So deal with it.” I tilted my head and acted cute with a fake smile.

But, to be honest, I was too scared to go to the doctor alone. I have never been in a clinic or hospital since I was a child and had a bad fever. My father used to tease me that the reason I was so stubborn and angry was because of that fever that almost killed me when I was six. It wasn’t funny, though. But I thought Father was so scared for me that day that he wanted to just make a joke out of it to hide his pain.

He leaned against the backrest of his chair, a little exasperated. “Fine. I’ll just adjust all my appointments this day, and we will go to your doctor.”

“Good.”

The wolf inside me smiled victoriously. She will have her mate the whole day.

“Are. You. Crazy, Giselle Sidney!? I thought you loved the guy!?”I shrugged my shoulders. I was calling my best friend Madelyn, who was on vacation somewhere in a luxurious beach resort in Hawaii. We had been on the phone for almost thirty minutes after I told her about what happened last night with Caden. I meant Alpha. Alpha Caden. I was still not used to putting that title before his name since we grew up together with both of our Alpha dads being friends because of business. There was sadness in my eyes when Madelyn said that painful truth. But then I tried to mask it with a smile and made my voice a little livelier just so she wouldn’t overthink. And overreact. Of course.“I don’t know, Madz. Maybe I am still mad at him after he disappeared for over a month and never even called me or told me if he was alive or—” I burst furiously and then exhaled in exasperation, feeling so exhausted about the situation I was having, “I didn’t expect this could happen!” I pointed to my tummy e

“I am not going with you, Caden, so better tell your men to let me go, or I will scream and make a scene here,” I threatened him, and he looked displeased as he flinched away from me with both hands on his side.“It’s okay. Just let her go.” Caden’s eyes darkened the second I walked past him and his guards.Terrified that I no longer had the peace I had always wanted, I went straight to the side of the building where I could call an Uber. I had to get away from Caden as fast as I could and move to a place where he couldn’t hunt me down. My hand automatically went to my belly, thinking about the life forming inside of me. My baby with Alpha Caden’s blood running through his or her veins...“There is no way I would let my parents know,” I whispered to myself. My breaths were heavy, and the anxiety in me made the tension worse, so I decided to go back to the restaurant. But to my surprise, he was already standing right at my back. I couldn’t believe he had been watching me that closely,

“I’m sorry, I don’t accept extra projects until next month. Please tell your client that I need some adjustments to my schedule.”I was still feeling weak after the pregnancy result. It totally blew my mind. I was still in a daze from the problems that would soon overtake my life and failed to notice that the people who came to my door were not the ones I had anticipated seeing today. I lifted my eyes to look at them. They were both wearing black suits with stoic expressions on their faces.“Maam, are you Miss Giselle Sidney?”My eyes widened. No! I wasn’t ready to go home yet!Perplexed, I shut the door on their faces, and my hands quickly worked on the locks. The two men tried to push it open, but I was faster. My brain focused as the adrenaline throbbed in my veins. I stepped away from the door, thinking about how I would escape those men who had been hunting me for over a month since I left my father’s pack. I couldn’t let them capture me now that I had a bigger problem to deal wi

Tears rolled down my face.My life was over. I smoothed the crumpled bedsheet beside me, sniffing the last of his scent on the pillow he used. And then I closed my eyes so tight that it was so hard not to sob. My throat was swelling and. my heart was racing. How could such a wonderful thing end so easily and then plummet to the brink of sadness and despair? What would I do after all that happened? My inner wolf felt awful as well. She made sure to hide deep within me. She never wanted to add to the emotional burden I was already suffering because of the recklessness I showed.Sobs emerged from my throat. I embraced the soft cashmere blanket against my bruised skin. Every inch of me was aching. My eyes caught the blood stain on the bedsheet, making me shudder in pain. Goddess, it was tormenting. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. I thought my heart was already numb from all the heartbreaks I suffered from loving him. However, because of my own foolishness, everything that h
