Chapter 5: Strange Feeling

Connor's POV

The beta stretched his hand and was about to slap the woman, but I immediately grabbed his hand away. 

“Don't you dare slap her,” I warned him, which made the beta to stared at me with his blazing eyes.

“Can't you see, Alpha? She's being clumsy and yet, you're defending her?” He asked, but I just shook my head. 

“Hurting a woman is not acceptable. Go and leave. Don't hurt her, or I will forget that you're a beta.” I uttered, and the beta gritted his teeth in anger. He wanted to disagree with me, but he can't do that because I am still the Alpha. Whatever he did, he can't win against me, so the beta just leave silently, but before that, he gave the woman a death glare. On the other side, I turn my head towards her, and her legs shiver in nervousness. “Are you okay?” I asked her and the woman just stared at me. 

“I… I am leaving.” She was about to run away, but I immediately grabbed her hand to stop her. 

“Don't mind him and don't worry because I will make sure that the beta won't hurt you. I will protect you from him, and I will assure you that.” The woman was teary-eyed, which shock me. Using the back of my hand, I wiped it away. It's weird because I felt pain seeing her cry. 

“Why did you protect me?” She asked, and that made me agape. 

“Because I feel like protecting you,” I replied to her, and I do not even understand why I felt like protecting her. There is maybe a deep reason, but I can't figure out what it was. 

“Thank you, Alpha. I appreciate everything you did for me and as well as your kind words. Thank you because you defend me earlier.” She uttered and which made me smile. There is something within me that I can't tell what. It's as if I wanted to keep protecting her. 

“I will keep an eye on you, lady.” The woman suddenly flinched when I touch her skin. I was stunned because it was as if I felt electrified upon touching her. This strange feeling I felt was so cringe. I can't explain the strange feeling I had felt now. 

“Thank you, Alpha, but I needed to leave because I'm sure that she's waiting for me.” She mumbled and I understand what she meant. It's the Alpha and Luna's daughter, my mate. 

“Hey!” I called her, but she was already far from me, so I just followed her. I've also remembered checking my mate if there is something strange about her because as far as I know, my true mate will feel pain when I was having physical contact with another woman. This way, I will prove that she was my mate if something is bothering her, or if ever she approached me and tell me about the pain she felt. I was walking down the hallway following my mate's slave and stopped in a room she entered. The door was open, so I could watch the two of them inside. My eyes were towards my so-called mate and my brows furrowed because there was nothing strange on her. 

She doesn't feel bothered that the woman, serving her, was the woman I have physical contact with earlier. Although the scent was so strong, my mate wasn't hurt at all. 

What does it mean? 

Is there something with her? Do I need to begin my investigation with my so-called mate just because I found out that she didn't feel any pain? 

My seniors taught me about simple ways to determine if that woman was my mate. With my close contact with the slave earlier and the way I protected her, my real mate would react. She was supposed to feel pain once she smells that I had betrayed her, but it's the opposite. She doesn't feel bothered at all. 

“This is a strange feeling, Connor,” I mumbled to myself and take a last glimpse of them before leaving, but my eyes were towards the slave. There's something with her that it's as if I don't want to take my eyes off her. A deep breath escape from my throat and was about to leave when something happened. 

“Damn! It hurts! Can't you please be careful!?” I heard my mate's angry voice, which made me turn my head in her direction. My heart skips for a while upon seeing the situation of the slave. She was kneeling in front of my mate while asking forgiveness. 

“I'm sorry, Princess, and I will promise this will never happen again.” She uttered, but the Princess was mad, and before the Princess could slap the slave's face, I already run and grabbed my mate's hand away from her face. 

“Alpha Connor, what are you doing here?” She asked me and I just glared at her. 

“Don't hurt her, or I will forget that you are a Princess,” I warned my mate, and doesn't care if she was my mate. It's just that, I didn't want her to hurt this slave, which made me confused even more. Many people wanted to hurt her just because she was a slave, and I will never allow them to hurt her. The Princess just bends her head and doesn't even talk to me.

“I… I am fine, Alpha Connor. Please don't worry about me.” The slave replied to me, and I just nodded my head. I decided to leave after I assured that the Princess won't hurt her slave again, so after that, I left away.

What happened earlier still bothers me. My suspicion just getting worse because of what the Princess did earlier. I know that her parents were kind, and I wonder where he inherited the evil side of Bella. I needed to do an investigation to better understand what is going on. I walk towards the palace's terrace and stayed there for an hour until someone came, which I never expected. 

It's the woman from earlier, and I have forgotten to ask her name. I am still unaware of her name. The woman was about to leave when she sees me, but before she can run, I already grabbed her waist and pinned her against the wall. 

“Alpha…” She mumbled and I could feel her fears. 

“Why are you avoiding me? I swear, I will never hurt you. Just please, don't leave like you're scared with me.” I uttered and let go of her afterward. The woman just stood still in front of me. 

“I… I am sorry, Alpha, but I cannot also explain why I wanted to avoid you. My name is Anastasia, Alpha.” At last, she introduced her name and how beautiful that name is. It impacts me and made me feel strange even more. 

“Hi, I am Connor and stop calling me Alpha,” I muttered, but she just shook her head. 

“No, that's inappropriate, Alpha Connor. It's nice meeting you, but I do have not enough time to talk to you because the princess will find me.” She replied to me, and before I could reply to her, Anastasia already run away. I just shook my head because that woman used to run away from me. 

That was also the time for me to realize to leave and start my investigation. I was walking down the hallway and met the Luna and Alpha's daughter, so I grabbed her hand. That strong scent is still there. 

“Do you feel anything?” I asked her, which made her brows furrow. 

“Feel about what, Alpha?” She asked, and I just stared deep into her eyes and then found something with her.
