Chapter 3

Once the application is submitted, it takes three days to be formally released from a pack. Today was my last day in Nightshade.

"Aria, the Alpha wants you to bring a calming draught to his office."

"Understood." My last task for Caden, I thought.

When I pushed open the door to the Alpha's office, I saw Vanessa sitting on Caden's lap, pressed tightly against his chest.

Caden was gently massaging her temples, his Alpha pheromones soothing the Omega in his arms.

"Still hurting?" he asked softly, his voice laced with tender concern.

"A little better," Vanessa cooed, leaning into his embrace. "It's all your fault. You were too rough last night."

I stood frozen in the doorway, the tray in my hands nearly slipping.

How many times in the last four years had my own energy been drained from treating his wounds or researching potions to fight enemy packs? How many times had I been curled up in a chair in pain, only for him to toss me a cold, "Go rest. Don't delay the important work."

And now he was this heartbroken over a little complaint from Vanessa?

"I brought the draught," I said, my voice flat.

They both looked at me.

Vanessa's expression immediately soured. "You again?"

Before I could speak, Vanessa's hand flew out and slapped me across the face.

My ears rang, a thin line of blood beading on my cheek.

Caden shot to his feet, his voice laced with shock. "Vanessa, what are you doing?"

But the woman’s eyes instantly filled with tears. She pointed at me, crying to Caden, "She just showed up at the house, and now she's still working by your side! What is she doing if not trying to seduce you?"

"And you lied to me! You said she had no interest in you!"

The air froze.

Caden’s complicated gaze flickered over me for a second before he gently pulled Vanessa into his arms, kissing away her tears.

His tone was a mix of exasperation and obvious adoration. "Even if she does have feelings for me... my heart only has room for you."

A triumphant smirk flashed across Vanessa’s face as she snuggled into his chest. "Then get rid of her! I don't want to see her again!"

Caden’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, as if he hesitated for a moment.

Seeing this, Vanessa grabbed the "calming draught" I had brought and suddenly screamed, flinging the hot liquid at me.

"Ah—Caden, it's hot! My hand!" she shrieked, holding her fingers out for him to see.

Looking at her barely reddened fingertips, Caden's face turned to thunder.

He glared at me, completely ignoring the blistering skin on my own bare arm.

"Aria! You're a professional healer, and you can't even handle a simple task like this?! Were you trying to hurt Vanessa on purpose?!"

Before I could explain, Caden summoned his Beta.

"Liam, Aria was negligent. Dock her entire provisions for the month! Announce her failure at the next pack assembly!"

Liam shot me a pitying look. "But Alpha," he said carefully, "Miss Aria has... already applied to leave the Nightshade Pack. Haven't you already approved it?"

Aria’s POVBack in our room, I gently touched Ethan’s arm.“You heard all of that?”“Yes.”“Are you upset that I talked to him for so long?”He smiled. “No. It’s good that you got your closure. I know you would never do anything to cross a line.”Unlike Caden’s constant possessiveness and aggression, Ethan was like a warm spring sun, always gentle.A warmth bloomed in my chest again. I thanked him in a small voice.“Thank you, my Alpha.”“What?” Ethan’s body went rigid.I glanced away, too shy to look at him. “I said, thank you, my Alpha.”He hadn't misheard. This wasn’t a dream.Ethan’s voice trembled. “Can you say it again?”“Oh, you’re so annoying. My Alpha, My Alpha, My Alpha…” I teased him. “There, is that enough?”His face turned bright red. He was so flustered he couldn’t form a sentence, looking more like a shy teenage wolf than a powerful Alpha as he practically fled into the room ahead of me.…Over the next six months, my feelings for Ethan deepened with each passing day.On

  • The Alpha's Secret Mate:I'm Someone Else's Luna Now   Chapter 9

Aria’s POVThree days after the Luna Ceremony, as was tradition, Ethan and I returned to my home pack for a celebratory dinner. My parents adored Ethan. My brother, Asher, was more direct. "If you ever hurt my sister, I'll be the first one to come for you."Ethan didn’t flinch at the threat. Instead, he gave a solemn nod. After the banquet, I was getting some fresh air in the garden when I felt a searing gaze fixed on me.It was Caden. He looked like hell. The bruises on his face hadn’t fully healed, and he looked even worse than he did at the ceremony.“Caden, what do you want?” I stopped, keeping my distance. He stood at the bottom of the steps, while I stood at the top, looking down at him.“If I said I was wrong, that I truly regret everything, could we start over?” His voice was pleading. “I’ll make our relationship public. I’ll give you the grandest ceremony. Anything, if you’ll just come back.”I stared at him, shocked.“Caden, I am someone else’s Luna.” I held up my hand, showi

"I care about our future, not hers."Those simple words shut down anyone looking for gossip.Looking at his strong profile, I felt my heart begin to beat a little faster. But when we were back in our quarters, I still felt I owed him an apology.“I’m so sorry about what happened today. I’m sorry I embarrassed you.”Ethan shook his head, a warm smile on his face. “You didn’t embarrass me, Aria. The only one who was embarrassed was the Alpha who disrespected both the cere

Aria’s POVOn the Moon Altar of the Silvercrest Pack, moonlight streamed through the massive crystal dome, bathing Ethan and me in its glow.I wore a silver-white gown that shimmered like liquid moonlight, and in my hands, I held a bouquet of Moonpetal flowers, picked by Ethan himself from deep within the forest at dawn. The Alphas and important members from all the major packs were seated below, including my parents and Asher. Every face was smiling, full of blessings. The Elder began to speak, his ancient words echoing across the altar. “Aria Rossi, before the eyes of the Moon Goddess, do you willingly take Ethan Moretti as your mate, your Alpha, and become his Luna, to protect this pack together, through good times and bad, for all your days?”I looked into Ethan’s gentle eyes and was about to speak.BOOM!The heavy doors were suddenly thrown open with tremendous force. The deafening crash made everyone turn in shock.Caden stumbled into the hall, having broken through the guards.H

Caden’s POVThe next morning, Vanessa was still fast asleep when I woke up.Her arm was draped across my chest, her breathing even and quiet.I used to love this. Now, it was just irritating.I walked to the window for some air, but the view of the garden made me freeze. The field of pure white moonflowers was gone. In its place were vibrant red roses.Vanessa woke up and wrapped her arms around me from behind, purring, “I had the gardener replace all those moonflowers with roses! Roses are so much more romantic. Those other flowers were so boring.”But I remembered Aria, her eyes sparkling when she begged me to let her design that part of the garden. She’d told me moonflowers had a calming effect, that they would be good for me.I had refused to let her touch my private spaces, but after her relentless pleading, I finally let her have the garden. Now it was gone.I gently removed Vanessa’s arms. “I have to take care of some pack business.”“I’ll come with you,” she said, getting up im

It’s in two days, at the Moon Altar!”“He’s her fated mate, guided to her by the Moon Goddess…”My head was spinning. I couldn’t make out the rest of what Asher was saying. I don’t even remember hanging up the phone. The Silvercrest Pack? A pack as strong as mine? And a fated mate? The hand holding my phone was shaking.Aria was really going to be another Alpha’s Luna.“Caden? What’s wrong?” Vanessa looked at me with concern. “You look awful.”I looked at her, but all I could see was Aria’s face. The first time I saw her flashed in my mind, suddenly crystal clear. It was four years ago.
