Chapter Four

Clarissa

I was growing angrier by the minute and decided to go to the washroom instead to wash my face and calm down.

My phone rang and I picked it up.

“What are my two princesses doing?” Dad’s voice asked me and I immediately tried to relax myself.

“We are at the Madhouse dad, Talia dragged me here,” I grumbled.

Dad only chuckled, “You should try to make friends, Clary. Anyways, I tried Talia’s phone but she didn’t receive my call so I gave you a ring. I and mom have to go to the west to discuss and renew our accords for the pack treaty.”

I frowned, “When are you going?”

“We will be leaving in an hour and returning in a week or so. While we are gone try to behave and return home soon tonight, ok?”

Dad said and I replied, “Yes dad”

“Also ask them to not forget practicing the runes” I heard mom shout at him from a bit further away.

My father laughed and said, “They don’t need to be reminded about that, right?”

I replied in a low voice, “Ok dad. Come back soon”

“Love you and take care of yourself and your sister for me. You are my brave girls, aren’t you?”

“Dad, I am not five”

I grumbled and he said in his same light hearted voice, “You will always be my little babies. Both you and Talia. Ok, I have to go. If you need anything give me or mom a call, okay.”

“Yes dad, have a safe journey”

I disconnected the call and absent mindedly headed in the direction of the washroom and I opened the door, nearly smacking it into someone.

“Damn it” I muttered and was about to ask if the girl was hurt when she held grabbed my hand. She was bent a little so I hadn’t seen her face yet.

“Just what do you think of yourself? You and your sister are good for nothing.”

Holy shit.

Miranda was fuming and a few girls stopped to see our bickering.

I shook off her hand and tried to get to the bathroom stall but she placed her foot in front of me, making me stumble and fall flat to the ground.

A few girls giggled and snickered while Miranda and her friends began laughing loudly as they openly made fun of me.

I got up from the floor and glared at her, “do that again and I will kill you”

The girls all around only mocked me more as they high-fived and began booing at me loudly. I angrily stormed out of the washroom, the door closing behind me with a resounding thud.

My mood had just gone from worse to low and I needed to cool off a bit. I was done with the party and I wanted to do nothing more than drag Talia and disappear into my room.

The thought of coming face to face with these girls at school made my stomach churn.

I shook my head and headed to the booth where I had left Talia but she was nowhere to be seen. I gave her a call but she didn’t pick up.

Not knowing what to do, I simply decided to head towards a corner and maybe play some stupid games on my mobile to calm myself down while deciding to wait for Talia to give me a call back.

While I leaned on the wall, I heard a muffled cry and immediately looked around but couldn’t see anything.

I buried my head in my phone again but this time I definitely heard it, a bit sharper and clearer.

Shoving my phone back into the pockets, I furrowed my eyebrows and looked around again, more intently this time.

The music drowned out most of the noise but as I was standing far from the dance floor, I had been able to hear the cry.

I saw a streak of blonde hair fly past the wall on the right side and decided to take a look. Tiptoeing my way towards it, I slowly inched towards the wall and sure enough, I heard another muffled cry.

I took a peek but couldn't see anything in the dim lights. After peering intently, I saw a boy pressing his hand over the mouth of the girl.

The boy had broad shoulders and he was quite tall. My 5.5” of height could see nothing past his buff body and his height could be around 6.2” or 6.3”.

The girl was struggling but then stopped moving as he leaned in closer. I assumed they were just a couple making out in the dark corners of the pub and was about to turn away when I saw a purple colored hairpin that glittered in the dim light that shone on it.

Not again.

It was Miranda. That purple hairpin was an eyesore to look at.

Wasn’t she glaring at me for snatching away Kyler from her when I didn’t even go near him?

Now she was with another guy. That was fast.

I had been worried for nothing. Blaming myself, I was about to turn around when I saw the scared look in her eyes for a brief second and then my gaze fell on the boy who was dragging her away from the crowd.

Her eyes looked bloodshot and she was trying hard to free herself of the grip of the boy to no avail.

I would have dismissed them as a couple that was arguing, but while rubbing my shoulder my eyes fell on his hand.

He held a dagger in his hand that he carried in a firm grip and was advancing towards a narrow passageway that went into the inner private booths of the club.

I threw my eyes at the booth where I had last left Talia and I must say Kyler was giving her much more attention than he had given Miranda or the others.

Their noses were practically touching and Talia was laughing her heart out. I then debated between going to the bouncers and asking for help for the girl who could be in danger but by the time that would happen, the boy and the girl would slip out of sight.

After spending a confusing moment debating with myself about the next course of action, I decided to follow the couple on my own.

My danger senses were tingling and I feared that he was going to rape her or worst maybe even kill her.

I could deal with my sister later. For now, I had a girl to free from the clutches of a rapist/ killer.

Miranda girl kept throwing furtive glances backward every now and then as they parted their way through the crowd.

Not wanting to show that I was following them lest the boy would be alerted, I grabbed a drink in my hand quickly from one of the waiters roaming around with trays of glasses spilling with liquor, and tailed them.

I nod my head when our eyes met, trying to reassure her that she wasn’t alone.

My skin prickled with a nervous energy. I cast a glance at my sister and she and Kyler were passionately making out in the public.

‘At least, she doesn’t require my help there’ I thought in annoyance.

When I knew she was going to be fine without me, I decided to look back for the person I had been following.

I thought I had lost him but I found him quickly enough.

He slipped past one of the black doors before turning around once again to see if he was being followed. Miranda girl was still trying hard to wrench free of his hold but couldn’t do anything.

I quickly hid in the shadows behind one of the pillars and stayed there until I heard the soft thud of the door falling close.

Going ahead with great care, I gently waited outside the door and strained my ears to see if I could hear anything.

After ensuring that there was nobody waiting to gut me the moment I opened the door, I slipped inside and quickly hid behind the large blackout curtains, making as little noise as possible.

Then, I carefully pulled off the folds of the curtain and craned my neck outside.

What I saw next shocked me.

Miranda was on her knees, cowering in front of two men who were more or less around my age.

She was blabbering incoherently, perhaps begging for her life but both of them appeared unmoved.

“Pl-please, let me go. I did not harm anyone. I swear,” She was in tears.

“In the name of?” The other boy who was dressed all in black asked and the girl in front of them fell silent.

“Can’t even say you worship a demon openly? Such a shame.”

Worship a demon? What was going on?

I strained my ears to hear more and calm my raging heart as, “Enough, Dacre. We are not here to chitchat” The boy in the red shirt said as he outstretched his hand, opening his palm in front of Dacre.

Dacre shot back, “Politically correct as always, Silas” and grudgingly handed over the dagger to him.

Silas ignored Dacre’s comment and simply took the dagger from him.

“Are there more of you?” Silas asked the girl and she hissed, “you are going to pay for this”

“Are you a virgin?” Dacre asked and my fears came true. So, they were going to rape her and then kill her.

The two boys laughed like devils and my blood boiled. Were they serial killers wanting to rape poor, hapless girls before discarding their bodies into dark alleys?

Sure I hated Miranda for what she did to me back in the bathroom but not so much that I would let somebody kill her.

I had to report these boys to the council but before that I had to get out of this mess, alive and with my virginity intact.

I was thinking hard about how to save Miranda from this situation when Dacre said something that made me freeze on the spot,

“Silas, she also brought another one along for us to kill. Well, more the merrier,” He said, and raised his head to look at me.

“Shit.”
