chapter 12

My bare feet carried me through the woods.

My hair flew backwards, following the blow of the strong wind.

I ran as fast as I could, constantly looking around to see if anyone was following me. There was no one behind me.

Tears of joy were blurring my eyes but I quickly wiped them with the back of my hands.

I didn't dare stop running for a second, not even when my right foot was begging me to stop.

The air felt fresher out here in the woods, it smelled like freedom.

I wanted to stop and catch my breath for a second. But any minute now, someone might notice that I was gone or Okla might change her mind and tell Beatrice that I ran away. Which was why I couldn't risk a rest and get caught.

No matter how much I wanted to keep going, my pace was slowing down.

I was sure that I was far away from the main pack house but I don't know how wide the Blue Moon pack is, so there was still risk of me being at the very center of the territory.
